This December, we are delighted to present Lauren Bowman’s first solo exhibition at The Scottish Gallery. Her compositions are intensely detailed, playful observations of the human condition in the disguise of domestic cats and dogs, combining historical, political and social themes contained within a fantastic urban landscape enriched by a complex patchwork of different patterns.
Each work takes
months to create, using watercolour, gouache and liquid gold leaf.
Born in the Midlands in 1990, Bowman graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2013. Bowman has participated in a number of notable group shows, including RSA: New Contemporaries 2014, where she was awarded the Art in Healthcare Purchase Prize and the RSA Landscape award, as well as the National Open Art Competition 2014, where she was awarded The Prudential Award for Young Artists. In 2016 her work was selected to be a part of the inaugural W. Gordon Smith painting prize exhibition.
