Two artists inspired by the same intrigue in architecture exhibit together. They have selected some of Scotland’s most quirky or abandoned buildings as a starting point and worked their own interpretations in print and collage or silver and gold.

With fine quality of craftsmanship combined with detailed observation of architecture from Ancient Rome to contemporary buildings, Vicki makes jewellery and silverware that connect a place of significance to the wearer or dining table. Techniques of trompe l’oeil or manipulation of proportion achieve her desired effect.
The ideas of early Romanticism, the Picturesque movement and antiquarian representations of topography and architecture underpin Kluz’ approach to image making. He has a particular interest in the eccentric, uncanny and overlooked – follies, lost country houses and ruins provide a constant source of inspiration.

ED KLUZ
Ed was born in 1980 and grew up in Swaledale, North Yorkshire. He studied fine art at the Winchester School of Art between 1999 - 2002. Having made his home in Brighton, he has situated himself in a prime location for subject matter; surrounded by the decaying regency splendour that makes Brighton unique. At an early age he developed an interest in English Romanticism which remains at the core of his work. As an artist and designer, he embraces many forms of image making, from printmaking and textile design to book illustration and paper collage. As a designer and illustrator Ed has recieved commissions from the V&A, Faber, Folio Society, John Murray publishers, Little Toller Books
VICKI AMBERY SMITH Vicki suspects her passion for architecture was sparked in childhood. ‘I grew up in Oxford and walked through the city every day on the way to school.’ However, it was during her foundation art course at what was then Oxford Polytechnic in 1972 that she realised how much she loved detail. ‘We visited the Oxford University Museum of Natural History as part of a project on perspective, where we were tasked with drawing the cast-iron roof structure. I kept focusing on the intricate foliage at the tops of the columns. My tutor looked at my work and said, “This is what you are about.” A degree in jewellery design at Hornsey College of Art followed. During this time, Vicki visited Salzburg, where she began drawing baroque buildings. Since setting up her work studio in 1977 she has exhibited nationally and internationally, as well as carrying out many varied commissions for businesses and private clients.
