A bit about the Local Heroes & Icons campaign
Scotland’s baking industry is built on both craft and scale. From small community bakeries to the major producers whose bakery creations reach millions of homes across Scotland, every day.
Across Scotland, from bustling cities to rural towns, small to medium-sized artisan bakeries form the heart of their communities. They rise early, craft by hand, and create with passion, bringing warmth, flavour, and pride to every product they bake.
These are Scotland’s Local Heroes. Bakers who nurture craft tradition, champion quality, and embody the spirit of local enterprise and innovation.
How to use this media toolkit
This social media toolkit has been created to provide you with all of the assets, imagery and copy that you will need to build towards the Scottish Baker of the Year Awards, in line with the Local Heroes & Icons campaign. All assets are available to download via the QR codes included at various points throughout the toolkit. All imagery is free to use, please just credit ‘Scottish Bakers’.
These larger bakeries are our Scottish Icons, the powerhouses of innovation, automation, consistency, and quality. They combine traditional expertise with modern technology to produce the breads, pastries, and sweet treats that consumers devour daily.

The Scottish Baker of the Year Awards is the most prestigious celebration of excellence within the bakery sector. Each year, bakeries from across the country enter the competition, showcasing the creativity, skill, and passion that underpin the Scottish baking industry.
Scottish Bakers is proud to launch our new and improved competition for 2026.
Our aim is to spark passion, boost bakery pride, and unite every baker across Scotland in a competition that drives consumer consideration and awareness. That celebrates and spotlights the excellence of the sector, the category winners and the Ultimate SBOTY.
Our Local Heroes and Icons campaign will showcase both community talent and larger scale bakers.
The Icons are the powerhouses of innovation, automation, consistency, and quality.

What’s new for the 2026 competition?
We’ve listened and now Scottish Baker is proud to launch a new and improved competition for 2026, that is inclusive, firm, fair and consistent for bakery businesses across Scotland.
Key changes for 2026:
The competition will no longer have a savoury category. This will be kept exclusively for the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards.
New product categories –including a separate category for Doughnuts View >
All entries must have been available for retail purchase for a period of 3 months (with exception of the Innovation category).
New field to fork judges covering the full supply chain.
An independent external assessor to adjudicate the product judging process.
New Judging Guides and Photo Standards for entrants.
Entrant Feedback provided.
One National Diamond “Best in Scotland” Awarded per category.
Changes to how the business awards (Baker’s Den) are weighted – based on product awards, written and video submissions.
New Independent Business Judges.
Eligibility to enter Baker’s Den for World Championship Scotch Pie Award winners (must be a bakery business with no further entries submitted to Scottish Baker of the Year).
Two Business Award Categories – Local Hero and Icon.
Apprentice of the Year Award –Local Hero and Icon.
Removal of the Customer Choice Awards.
