Founded in 1993 by the Byne family, Benholm Group has grown from a small Falkirk-based venture into a leading creator of planting solutions for commercial spaces across the UK. Inspired by generations of family horticulture, we bring creativity and craftsmanship to every project.

Biophilic design
What is biophilic design?
Biophilia is the idea that humans have an innate and biological tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. In practice, it helps explain why natural elements such as plants, water, sunlight, natural materials and organic shapes make people feel calmer, happier and more restored.
The term is most widely associated with biologist Edward O. Wilson, who popularised it in his 1984 book Biophilia. Wilson proposed that our affinity for nature is an evolutionary trait that supported human survival.
Biophilic design brings this principle into the built environment by weaving natural features into architecture and interiors in ways that enhance wellbeing, comfort and a sense of connection to nature.

Many of the elaborate examples of biophilic design you might see online or in flagship buildings can be off-putting. It is easy to look at dramatic living walls or large-scale water features and think I don’t have the space, time or budget for that. But biophilic design doesn’t need to be grand or complex to be effective. Its principles can be applied in simple, scalable ways that still deliver a meaningful impact on how a space feels and performs.
Plants are only one part of holistic biophilic design, but they are one of the most effective and accessible ways to introduce natural connection into a space. Even the most subtle use of plants can have very positive effects on people’s wellness.
They require no planning permission and no structural changes, and they can completely transform a space within hours. Plants offer a direct and living link to nature and bring immediate benefits such as improved air quality, reduced stress, enhanced mood and increased concentration.

Unlike artificial green walls or moss walls, living walls require regular care and attention, which we provide through our comprehensive maintenance plans. Nordik Moss is a sustainable material, harvested by hand from the forest floor, and is 100% biodegradable. We then preserve it using natural minerals, to stop it growing and maintain its fresh look.

Cabinet top planting comes in many different shapes and sizes from stand-alone troughs and bowls, to completely bespoke made plant boxes to fit your cabinets. They can be used to brighten up lockers, filing cabinets or printing stations; a great way to add greenery to an office with limited floorspace.
Our GRP cabinet top planters are custom-made to fit your units ensuring a perfect fit. They have a smooth finish and can be made in any desired RAL colour. Each one is carefully lined, fitted with a bespoke watering system, and beautifully planted with a full, vibrant display of plants.

We often categorise plants as either living or artificial, however, there’s a fascinating third option that offers a unique blend of the two: preserved plants.
Preserved plants are real plants that undergo a special preservation process to retain their natural beauty and texture. This process typically involves replacing the plant’s natural sap with a biodegradable preservation solution, which keeps the plant looking fresh and vibrant for years. The result is a plant that looks and feels like it’s still alive but requires no watering, sunlight, or soil.

Proactive plant care
Our teams take a proactive approach. They identify and resolve potential issues early so your planting continues to thrive and perform at its best.
Comprehensive service
Every visit includes full care of your displays, from watering and feeding to cleaning, trimming and managing pests. Any plants that are not meeting our standards are replaced automatically and at no cost to you.
Dedicated personnel
Specific members of our maintenance team are assigned to your account. They become familiar with your environment, your displays and the history of each planter, ensuring a consistent level of care.
Quality control
Quality control is central to our contract management. Our Contracts Manager carries out on-site checks to ensure our standards are met and your planting is always presented at its highest quality.

From mood boards and planting palettes to tailored design concepts, every detail is considered so the final installation feels purposeful, cohesive, and effortless within its surroundings.

Our installation team delivers every project with exceptional care and professionalism. We handle everything, from preparing plants and planters to coordinating with your onsite team, to ensure a smooth, efficient installation that causes minimal disruption. Every display is positioned and finished with precision, so your space looks its best from day one. We take pride in the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into every project.

3. Maintenance
When you enhance your business with plants, you want to protect your investment. Plants are living organisms and require care to continue looking their best. Great planting delivers lasting impact only when it is maintained properly.
Our technicians provide regular on-site care, typically every four weeks. This is made possible by our reservoir watering technique, although visit frequency is always tailored to the needs of your plants and the conditions of your space.
Our maintenance service includes watering, feeding, cleaning, polishing, staking, trimming, pest control and the free replacement of any plants that are dead, dying or overgrown. This ensures your displays remain healthy, vibrant and consistent throughout the year.

Enviroculture
Benholm are committed to reducing peatbased planting with our own brand peatfree planting solution Enviroculture.
Harvesting peat for compost releases harmful greenhouse gases, contributing to climate change. Once harvested, it takes a full year for just one millimetre of new peat to form – that’s 1,000 years for each metre!
Enviroculture is our own-brand peat-free and soil-free planting solution for many varieties of indoor plants, and is a viable alternative to traditional soil or compost. We have been using it for many years, promoting the benefits of protecting our natural peatlands which are unique ecosystems providing massive amounts of natural carbon storage.
Pots with purpose
We offer a wide range of sustainable containers made from recycled and responsibly sourced materials, helping you reduce environmental impact without compromising on style.
Operating responsibly
Our premises use a range of eco-friendly initiatives to reduce energy and water use across our greenhouse and main office. Both are heated by biomass boilers that use natural, non-fossil fuel resources. Rainwater harvesting helps reduce water consumption, while the greenhouse is insulated with triple-wall polycarbonate panels, computer-controlled ventilation and underfloor heating to maximise efficiency and carefully regulate growing conditions. Our car park is also equipped with electric vehicle charging points, supporting lower-emission travel for our team and visitors.

Cundall’s move into Bank House marks one of the most significant moments in the firm’s fifty year history. The tenth floor of this new landmark building is now home to their global headquarters, a space that reimagines what a modern workplace can be.
