Children naturally need different things at different ages and we know all learn differently. So, we tailor our approach to each stage of their development and to the individual. Whether they’re 5, 8 or 16, we view teaching and wellbeing alongside each other. We know real growth and learning occurs when our values guide the way and these two worlds intersect and connect. Here’s how our curriculum and approach works to support students at each stage in their journey.

INSTILL A LOVE FOR LEARNING

Our Early Years and Junior Precinct is purpose built for active minds and busy bodies with modern classrooms, outdoor play facilities and flexible learning spaces

Driven by a sense of wonder, young learners are wired to explore. It’s at this age that they learn to fall in love with learning and it’s why our program is focused on fueling their natural thirst for discovery.

When it comes to improving learning outcomes and giving children the head start they need, we believe this is the most important thing we can do.

Junior School Years 3 to 5

STRENGTHEN THE FOUNDATION In Years 3 to 5, our boys and girls continue to discover more about themselves and we continue to build the foundation for learning, strengthening their understanding of the world around them as we go.

OUR APPROACH IN SHORT Beyond a strong focus on fundamentals, a love for learning outside the classroom is nurtured.

Boys and girls dive deeper into their learning and are challenged to immerse themselves in new experiences, explore different ideas and follow their curiosity.

Students are given the confidence to take learning risks and we build strong connections and nurture wellbeing to help them do this.

Education Assistants support and extend our Junior School students in line with individual needs.

WE BELIEVE Learning occurs everywhere and diverse experiences help students begin to discover what they enjoy and what they’re good at.

All learning is relational and kids learn best when they can connect.

Junior School learners should feel not only engaged in their learning, but empowered by it.

Middle School Years 6 to 8

BUILD INDEPENDENCE

As boys and girls enter Middle School their sense of self expands. They begin to seek and explore different perspectives, to question and investigate wider issues. It’s here where students begin to find their voice, own their viewpoints and discover their place in the world.

OUR APPROACH IN SHORT

MIDDLE SCHOOL CURRICULUM In addition to core subjects, Wellbeing and Instrumental Music continues in Middle School with students taking part in a unique Pipe Band experience in Year 6, learning percussion in Year 7 and guitar in Year 8.

In Year 7, Drama is added and from this point onwards, specialist subject teachers deliver the curriculum.

Our co-curricular program also broadens once students reach Middle School, with more than 25 sports and activities on offer!

Middle School represents a time of significant change as students transition from childhood to adolescence, growing in independence.

During this stage of their development, we seek to expand minds, build critical thinking and 21st century skills while developing more fully, character strengths like resilience, creativity, gratitude and even humour.

Our program supports a seamless transition across the Middle School years and is aligned with developmental needs.

Students move from having a core classroom teacher who supports and nurtures all aspects of learning and wellbeing in Year 6, to a model more reflective of Senior School learning in Years 7 and 8 with students supported in different ways as they gradually take on new responsibilities.

Targeted pastoral programs equip students with the skills and tools needed to develop socially and navigate the physical and emotional changes that come with adolescence.

WE BELIEVE Positive peer connections are key to learning and growth. We build strong relationships with our students and help them to do the same with their peers.

Building independence requires a careful balance of guidance and responsibility.

Middle and Senior Students are granted their own sense of space and at the same time have access to a range of facilities across our campus

Senior School OUR APPROACH IN SHORT

Our Senior School program seeks to prepare students for a constantly changing world. We ready our boys and girls for tomorrow by instilling in them the courage to question and the confidence to contribute.

A broad curriculum and diverse experiences help students to identify passions and strengths and provide pathways to university, TAFE and the workforce.

Elective subjects in Year 9 allow students to explore areas of interest with further choice granted in Year 10 and important conversations around the future commencing at this time.

We take time to understand the goals and aspirations of each student and how we can best support them pastorally and academically to achieve and excel in their pathway of choice. Staff work collaboratively with students and their parents to map out a clear way forward with initiatives like career interviews, surveys and experience days, helping students to better understand the directions they’d like to pursue as they consider subject selections for Years 11 and 12.

WE BELIEVE Senior School is all about providing experiences that enable and empower students to find and follow their own path.

Knowledge will only get students so far; school is not about facts and figures, it’s about preparing our boys and girls for life.
