Year 3 and 4 will head to the Crusader Camp at Galston Gorge.

Year 12 Assessment Week Year 12 students are now at the half-way point of the examinable section of the HSC (this began in Term 3, last year).

It is a very demanding time for all our Year 12 students as the results directly contribute to their internal school rank in each course they study.

We wish each student every success and as always if any experience ill health or misadventure please contact the College for advice on the correct procedures set down by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) which has ultimate jurisdiction over the assessment program.

ISA Cricket Representatives Congratulations to Tom Siede and Angus Parsons who were both recently selected in the Independent Sporting Association (ISA) Open Boys Cricket Team following strong performances in recent years in the ISA competition, as well as at a recent trial match.

Tom was selected as an opening batsman and left-arm orthodox spinner whilst Angus was chosen as an opening bowler and a lower-order batsman. The ISA team played three matches in a hectic few weeks of cricket with the first match being played against Combined Associated Schools at Chaplin Oval in Oxford Falls.

Angus bowled with pace but without luck in this match whilst Tom’s left-arm spin caused problems for the CAS team and he claimed four wickets in a close defeat. The second match was played against Associated Schools of Canberra at the picturesque Bradman Oval in Bowral.

The team had a convincing victory with Angus taking two wickets in two balls which started a collapse for the Canberra side. Tom opened the batting in this match and scored a solid 15 runs which set the foundation for the team’s victory.

The final match was played at Newington College in Stanmore against the GPS team and the ISA

team narrowly lost to their more fancied opponents. Both Tom and Angus had solid matches and, as they did throughout the ISA matches, played with great integrity and sportsmanship.

Now that the representative season has concluded both boys will return their attention to the local Bathurst Junior competition where the Scots All Saints College team is on top of the ladder leading into the semi-finals. Tom and Angus will also play semi-finals in the local men’s club competition. I congratulate the boys and wish them the best of luck for the remainder of the season.

French Connection

‘Francophonie’ is celebrated on Saturday, 20 March each year, and provides an opportunity for French speakers around the world to rejoice in the French language and all its diversity.

At Scots All Saints College, we would never allow this day to come and go without celebrating in some way the deep connection that our College has with all things, French.

We are very privileged to have the High Commission of Canada visiting our school on Friday 19 March, along with comedian and educator, Sean Murphy.

Sean’s performance investigates aspects of FrenchCanadian culture through interactive theatre. Year 8 students will have the opportunity of being part of this incursion, as they are about to embark on—or indeed choose—a course in the French language for 2022.

‘Bonjour Bathurst’ has been busy talking with students and staff as to what they know about the French way of life and culture, with some very amusing responses. This interview will be available in the next episode.

Finally, the team at ‘Bonjour Bathurst’ were tickled pink (être aux anges) this week to meet Monsieur Alexi Le Masson, a Frenchman and radio announcer and now a ‘Bathurstian’. He shared with the students his wisdom about learning a language and the many benefits and opportunities unlocked for him to have bilingual skills. This story is now being translated by the students for your entertainment next week.

Keep your eyes open for next week’s episode of ‘Bonjour Bathurst’ as it is an ambitious edition.

Chlorine, the Central Coast, and a few cheeky cheeseburgers. This week’s sports report has it all. have many students qualify for the HICES team - in 17 events no less! Well done to Harry Thorne, Emily Saint, Thomas Roughley, George Milgate, Lara Kearney, Sasha Green, Isla Fitzgerald, Archie Fitzgerald, Aleki Finau and Charlotte Bateman.

HOCKEY Yesterday we had a talented bunch of hockey players compete at the AICES trials on the Central Coast. Our 18s WAS team came away with the spoils and we had three girls selected in the HICES team. Shout out to Lily Kable, Philippa Webb, Harriet Lowe, Alice Radford, Harriet Collins, Morgan Still, Clare Mawhood, Belinda Kidd and also Megan Cooke.

SWIMMING Our Year 7–12 swimmers had a super successful night at the recent WAS carnival, held at Kinross Wolaroi School. We finished second behind a fullstrength KWS team. We then proceeded to celebrate with a few cheeky cheeseburgers at Maccas. Well done to these legends who managed to climb up onto the top step of the podium: Annabelle Kerridge, Olivia Mills, Lillian Milgate, Teagan Chapman, Milla Nelson, Jake Scrimshaw, Josephine Craig, Imogen Farmer and Nikki Browne.

On Monday our Primary School swimmers competed in the HICES carnival at SOPAC. Every swimmer gave 100% and we were lucky enough to

We were back at it again yesterday in Homebush with our swimmers in Years 7–12 competing in the ISA carnival. It was an unbelievable team effort by a great group of students. The highlights were Todd Nelson breaking a carnival record in the 50m butterfly and our Junior girls finishing third overall in Division 1. Don’t tell anyone, but we had a few cheeky cheeseburgers at Maccas in Blaxland to celebrate. A special shout out to the parents who made the trip to Homebush and were so awesome and supportive on both Monday and Wednesday.

WATER POLO It was grand final day on Tuesday for our Lunchtime Water Polo tournament on Campus West. The Wolverines took on the Seahawks in the first match of the double-header, scoring seven goals and claiming a well-deserved victory. Congrats to Joe Jeffress and Sasha Green who were nominated as the players of the match.

The Wolverines: James Fairley, Joe Jeffress, Eli Waru, Floss Jackson-Le Couteur, Neel Shah, Nicholas Dunstall, Georgia Rennie and Edward Anderson.

Attention turned to the second match between the Ravens and the Sharks. Milla Nelson led the way for the Sharks scoring four goals in a 5:3 victory. Milla Nelson and Zephir Valsain were awarded Best in Pool.

The Sharks: Blake Van Yzendoorn, Sophia Burke, Scout Toole, Alex Le, Milla Nelson, Calla MacCabe, Henry McRae and Sam De Gabriel.

Here’s the best part, over 130 students got involved throughout the tournament. That’s unreal!

WINTER SPORTS Our Winter Sports choices will be going out to students this week. Our Senior School students will be able to nominate their sport using a Google Form that we’ll be emailing out. For our Junior and Middle School students, we’re asking parents to help with their child’s choices.

We have some exciting new sports joining the ranks, some cult classics making a return, and of course our core sports.

A reminder that if your child chooses a core sport, their Active Afternoons will be a training session for their game that coming weekend.

Success at Junior Judging Workshop and Competition Day and Blayney Show On Friday 11 March 2021 our Cattle Show team and brand new Sheep Show team ventured to the Blayney Junior Judging Workshop and Competition Day held at Blayney Showgrounds.

With over 150 students participating in Beef Cattle, Meat Sheep, Fleece and Oral Judging workshops it was a very busy day. The students had workshops all morning with experts in each field and were asked to judge the stock. In the afternoon, students who had performed well in the judging were asked to do an oral speech to discuss their reasons for their placings within each class. This can very be intimidating in front of a crowd but our students took the challenge with enthusiasm and showed how confident they were by achieving the most amazing results.

Special congratulations must go to Lillian Oke who took out Champion Meat Sheep Judge and Kirilee Scott who was awarded Reserve Champion. Many of our students placed highly in all other areas including Paige Hatton, who took out first place in the Beef Cattle Judging.

The Cattle show team won all of the three classes and went onto taking out Grand Champion Steer with a high-yielding Limousin cross Square Meater steer prepared and paraded by Gabrielle Toby. This steer was bred by our very supportive friend, Mr Phil Kirk from Peak Hill.

Our sheep excelled with our ewes taking out both Champion and Reserve Champion Australian White Females. They were expertly paraded by Abbey Roweth and Will Jeffress.

Saturday saw us take our 24 steers to the show and our six stud Australian White ewes. With it being the lead-up show to Sydney Royal there were a lot

In the afternoon our students entered the Junior Paraders competition which is where the students themselves are judged on how they present their animal to the judge. The students were amazing and all looked extremely professional and they showed that their hard work has paid off.

Alyssa Cranston, Clare Mawhood, Lily Moore, Patrick McKiernan, Lillian Oke, Lily Kable, Jessica Mills, Philippa Webb, Eva Green and Sophie McAllan all made it into the finals for their paraders class with many of them placing in the finals. Eva Green won her final and then went on to compete for Champion Parader.

As she entered the arena, I saw the competition she was up against and thought it may be tough for her, as she has only had limited experience due to shows being cancelled last year and the other two paraders were very

experienced. I was wrong as Eva did an exceptional job and was crowned Champion Parader.

Many of our girls also entered the Miss Junior Showgirl which was a great opportunity.

Eva Green continued her success by being crowned Miss Junior Showgirl with Lillian Oke named runner up.

We now look ahead and it isn’t that long until we head to the Sydney Royal Show with one of our biggest teams of 26 steers and then to the Royal Bathurst Show in late April with our stud sheep and cattle. In between all of this our Aussie White ewes are due to lamb which will be very exciting for all involved.

Careers Advice Mrs Helen Jones Career Development Officer Year 12 University FACTS Day – Friday 23 April The annual FACTS (Facts about Careers and Tertiary study) will be held at CSU Bathurst during Week 1, Term 2. We are sending ALL Year 12 students to this event as the majority of NSW Universities will be in attendance, plus there will be representatives from TAFE NSW, Department of Human Services, Newcrest Mines, ADF, NSW Police Force, Private Colleges, selected trades and other stalls. Helping our Year 12 students to make decisions on their Pathways for 2022. Look out for the parental permission note via Operoo soon.

Who is UAC? UAC (University Admissions Centre) processes applications for admission to most undergraduate courses in NSW and ACT. They are also responsible for calculating and providing the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) to NSW HSC Students. Applications for UAC will open on 1 April but there is no rush to apply. On-time applications are open until 30 September and we will be working on these during Term 2.

You can access many resources from the UAC web page https://www.uac.edu.au/ including signing up to receive their newsletter (bottom of home page). This very informative document keeps you up to date with all deadlines, new course information, scholarship opportunities and outlines the application process.

SRS (Schools Recommendation Scheme) is UAC’s Early Entry Program and this application takes place concurrently with the student’s UAC application. Again, we will look at this next term. Obituary - Rod Fraser SENIOR AFTER SCHOOL HOMEWORK CENTRE STARTS MONDAY 1ST MARCH 3.20- 4.30PM

It has been reported on the Ivanhoe Grammar School Facebook page that Rod Fraser AM, who was Headmaster of Scots 1991-1995, has died. Rod came to Scots from Launceston Grammar, succeeding John Hunter as Headmaster.

Rod arrived at Scots at a time of major transition. With boarding schools going out of fashion, he did much to develop Scots as a day school, yet when he left, Scots still had an unusually high proportion of boarders, and there had been many changes in the physical and social conditions of the boarding houses. One former school captain has also noted that Rod made many changes to the pastoral care program of the school. All this was done against a background of economic recession. Rod impressed on the staff the need to change because the world was changing.

He believed that Scots future also lay in maintaining a high academic standard, and he impressed on students the need to take responsibility for their learning.

After leaving Scots, Rod became Head of Ivanhoe Grammar in Melbourne, where he had a long and notable career. He was active in a number of areas of education in Victoria, and received an Order of Australia award in 2015.
