Coronavirus (CoVID-19) Update Like many schools across NSW and indeed communities across the globe, here at Scots All Saints, we remain vigilant and on alert to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. As daily news and social media continues to be filled with the latest statistics and stories about coronavirus, it is important to take necessary precautions but not to panic. Hand sanitation devices have been installed throughout the College, on both campuses, and students have been educated about the importance of good hygiene.

The NSW Government via NSW Health and the Department of Education are the main authorities providing regular updates. Their current advice from 11 March states there are no non-operational schools due to the coronavirus, and any staff member or student who has been in the following countries: mainland China, Iran, South Korea or Italy, need to be isolated from child care, schools or work for 14 days from the date they left that country.

Anyone with a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus will be excluded until they are cleared to return. NSW Health has processes in place to identify close contacts and advise them not to attend school, work or childcare services.

Consistent with current guidelines for any respiratory illness, children, students and staff who are unwell should remain at home until symptoms resolve.

In accordance with our current practice, if any student becomes unwell we will implement our infection control guidelines and follow the advice provided by NSW Health. There were some amazing performances in the water across all age groups and strokes and our students are to be commended on their achievements. We wish students who are progressing to the next round every success.

Wellbeing and resilience - Strong Central West Conference - new date and new venue coming soon We are pleased to announce that we have had significant interest in this event from local organisations, community members and regional councils that would like to be involved in our planned Strong Central West Conference. This interest has led the event becoming much larger than we anticipated, so the Strong Central West team has decided that we will be moving the event to early 2021. This date change will allow for a bigger venue, more experiential activities and speakers, and more opportunities for the community to participate in creating a stronger Central West.

Try Us for A Day With increased interest in Scots All Saints College from prospective families seeking to enrol for 2021, we have once again organised a Try Us Experience Day next week. We have children from various year groups attending on Sunday 15 March for a Boarding Sleepover to try what it is like to ‘live at school’ and then on Monday 16 March we will welcome up to 100 students into our classrooms to meet our teachers, enjoy the facilities and make new friends. We have many children joining the program as current Year 6 students seeking to enrol for Year 7 next year. This is fantastic, the word has spread about the amazing Scots All Saints College, and our focus on individual students’ wellbeing and education.

Meet & Greets to local towns and villages As we settle into the school year, I am looking forward to heading out to meet our parents who cannot always get into the school. It was a lovely evening in Oberon earlier this week where Chris Jackman and I had the pleasure of meeting some of our local families and those students considering attending our College in the not too distant future. Tickets selling fast for Annie - the Musical for all ages!

We are pleased to advise there has been strong interest from the wider community for the Scots All Saints College production of Annie to be held BMEC Bathurst at 7:00 pm on the evenings of 26, 27, 28 March. It is recommended you get in early to secure your tickets so you don’t miss out on this amazing production.

Year 7 Vaccinations Monday March 16 Just a friendly reminder about Year 7 vaccinations on Monday, 16 March 2020.

Students who have returned consent forms will receive the dTpa vaccine and the initial dose of HPV vaccine on this day.

Consent forms were posted out to all families on the tenth of February .

If you require a replacement form these can be collected from the Health Centre on the All Saints Campus. It would be greatly appreciated if forms could be returned to either the Middle School office or the All Saints Campus Health Centre as soon as possible.

An exception is made to the normal procedure for boarding students and the nurses from the public health unit will accept a consent form that has been completed and emailed to the college.

Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day Grandparents of our students in Years 4 and 8 are looking forward to our assembly tomorrow and a special morning of activities. Assembly will commence at 9:00 am followed by a range of activities including a visit to the library and the opportunity to donate a book and morning tea. I look forward to meeting all the students and their grandparents.

2020 Public Speaking Program Students should be finalising preparations for their speeches. Speeches will be delivered in class on Monday 16 March. Hopefully students have spent this week practising their delivery skills. Our program aims to build skills in students to become confident and expressive communicators who can express themselves in a variety of formal and informal situations.

Annie the Musical Our Performing Arts Academy is soon to present Annie - the Musical at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre on Thursday 26, Friday 27 and Saturday 28 March. Whilst there aren’t any Junior School students in this production it’s a great way to see what your child may like to be a part of in future years. The students have worked tremendously hard and it is sure to be a spectacular show. Tickets are selling fast and can be purchased online at https://www.bmec. com.au/annie-the-musical.html Summer Sport - Cricket Presentations Our cricketers have had a sensational season and our final games of the season will be held tomorrow night. At our assembly on Friday 27 March we will acknowledge all cricket players from the 2019/2020 season. Next Wednesday 18 March all cricketers will have their team photo taken. Players should be dressed in their cricket attire.

Harmony Day Afternoon Tea - Friday 20 March On Friday 20 March we will celebrate Harmony Day. It’s a day to celebrate our cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. I’d like to invite all parents to a special afternoon tea that will be held in the Suttor Garden outside of Kindergarten from 3:00 pm featuring some fine ‘tastes’ from around the globe. Thank you to the many parents who have offered to prepare a dish to share at the afternoon tea.

Brainstorm Productions - 25 March On Wednesday 25 March 2020 Brainstorm Productions will be presenting their student wellbeing program 'The H Team' for Kindergarten to Year 4.

Brainstorm Productions help more than 360,000 students each year with bullying, cyber safety and resilience programs via a range of award-winning theatre performances. Brainstorm Productions aim is to reduce the prevalence of bullying in schools and improve student behaviour and wellbeing.

This exciting adventure story inspires students to take responsibility for their own behaviour and wellbeing. Please complete the CareMonkey eform if you haven’t already.

Visual Art Exhibition All Junior School students are currently undertaking a unit of work based on the elements of art. Students are studying these elements and how to identify them and use them in a range of art forms. On the final day of the term we’ll be hosting an exhibition in the Kemmis building to showcase the work of the students throughout the term. You are most welcome to attend the exhibition from 3:00 pm on Wednesday 8 April.

Nut Free School Just a friendly reminder about the Colleges 'nut free' policy. We’ve become aware that items like Nutella and biscuits containing nuts are starting to work their way back into lunch boxes and we need to address this because there are a number of highly allergic students within the college.

Indigenous & Cultural Diversity

Throughout Week 7 students in Pre-Kindergarten on the Scots Campus have been focusing on Indigenous and Cultural Diversity. The children have enjoyed a range of culturally diverse experiences and activities. Parents and families as well as the children were invited to share their cultural backgrounds, food and traditions with the class.

Annie - the Musical

Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day We welcome the Grandparents' and Special Friends' of students in Year 4 and 8 to the College tomorrow, Friday 13 March. This provides a wonderful opportunity for the students to show their Grandparents and Special Friends their school and to spend some quality time together. The day begins at 8:45 am where we will meet on the front lawn near the Chapel.

Many of our Middle School students are busy preparing for Annie - the Musical which will be on 26, 27 and 28 March at BMEC. There is an enormous amount of work and effort being put into this production by both students and staff which I am sure will make it something that cannot be missed. I encourage people to get in early to secure their tickets.

Students in Year 5 to 8 will be attending Brainstorm Productions on Wednesday 25 March at the Bickerdike Centre. Brainstorm Productions are a travelling company that uses drama productions to educate students on current issues and challenges in their lives. The play they will be performing is called 'The H Team', a play that gives students knowledge, confidence and resilience to cope with negative feelings and unhealthy messages from advertising and the media.

collected by this time and teachers have been left to supervise until well after school hours. As you can imagine, this causes some angst for our staff who also have families and other commitments. We understand that emergencies can occur and if this is the case we ask parents to call the school to advise they will be late for pick up. Students not involved in a co-curricular activity should leave school during the first round of transport/pick up and supervision (3:20 - 4:10 pm).

New playground furniture On behalf of the Senior School students I would like to say a huge thanks to the P&F who not only provided the funds for the purchase of new playground furniture, but came in last weekend and constructed it as well. Fourteen ‘picnic-style’ tables have been purchased and placed around the playground. This gift provides much needed seating in shaded areas across the campus and we are grateful for the blessing of a supportive P&F.

Laughter a sign of a healthy community Whilst walking around the campus today I was struck by the abundance of joy that is present.

Research tells us that laughter is a key ingredient of a healthy, productive workplace. Smiling students and colleagues sharing a laugh are strong indicators that we are continuing to build a learning environment where people thrive and grow as individuals and as members of a community. As educators we understand the significance of the correlation between happiness and academic success, which is why we’re continuing to train our staff and introduce positive psychology programs across the year groups. For those interested in reading more on this topic I would recommend two titles by Martin Seligman; Flourish and Learned Optimism.

Musical Preparation As many parents will be aware, rehearsals for Annie - the Musical have been underway for a number of weeks. Musicals are just one of the opportunities provided by the College and as always it’s great to see our young people taking up the challenge to try something new or work together towards a common goal. The sounds coming from the Hall and the PAC point to this being another successful event where our students showcase their talents and skill at working together as a team to produce something amazing.

JS & MS Sport Mrs Kay Nelson Coordinator of Sport K-8 Sport has been in full swing over the past couple of weeks in the Junior and Middle school.

Water Polo Festival Our 12 Years Water Polo team attended the NSW Water Polo festival in Orange. After attending six coaching clinics with former Olympian, Nikita Williams, our students were well prepared. The team comprising of twelve students competed in the mixed competition against nine teams from metropolitan and regional NSW. After some wins and losses over the weekend, the SASC team were in an excellent position to play for the bronze medal. After much excitement, SASC pulled away from their opposition winning the match 8 -4 and of course the bronze medal. Congratulations to the students involved. Kosema, Harry and Iggy will represent the College at the NSWCIS carnival held later in the month. Congratulations to all students who attended both carnivals and represented the College in such a fine manner.

The Year 2 – Year 6 swim team have been busy Cricket competing in two recent swimming carnivals. The first meet was the WAS (Western Associated Schools) carnival held at Kinross Wolaroi School. The second Touch Football meet was the HICES (Heads of independent Co-educational Schools) carnival. Our swimmers all Cricket performed admirably and there was a notable improvement from one carnival to the next for a number of our students. Special mention must go to Basketball Ruby Thorne who not only won four Individual events but also broke two long standing HICES records in the Summer Sport backstroke and butterfly. This is an outstanding achievement that has been the result of hard work, Summer sports training will continue until the end of Week 8. commitment and of course talent. Touch Football The Girls 14 Years Touch Football team (Blue) played in a preliminary final on Monday. This team consists of a determined and talented group of girls who have gone from strength to strength with their touch football skills. Working under the guidance of Madam Adamson, the girls played a terrific attacking game and whilst the final result did not go their way, I am certain that they were happy with their achievement and progression over the whole season.

ISA Touch Football A number of Year 8 students were involved in the ISA Touch Football competition recently. Congratulations to all students involved. A special shout out to the Year 8 girls who played up in the Junior Division. The Junior A team were ISA premiers and the Junior B team Runner up recipients with Scots All Saints College announced as overall winners of the School shield. This is an excellent achievement by the girls and their coaches.

Year 7-12 Cross Country Carnival The Inter-House Cross Country carnival will be held on Tuesday 17 March at the Scots Campus. Year 7 and 8 students will be transported across to the Scots Campus at 1:00 pm after an early lunch. Students will walk the course prior to running their race in their respective age groups. Year 7 and 8 students will return by bus to the All Saints Campus by 3:20 pm. All students must attend their sports coaching session on Tuesday afternoon as normal.

Winter Sport Rugby training will begin for the 14 Year’s team on Thursday Week 8 and for the 13s on Tuesday Wk 9. All other Winter Sports teams will commence training Week 1, Term 2. The Winter sports MIC’s will send out information regarding their sport in coming weeks.

Bathurst District Cricket reps On Sunday, 1 March, four of our students represented Bathurst in the MCC U/12 Cricket Grand Final against Orange.

Lachlan Munns (Year 7), Max Hemsworth (Year 6), Liam King (Year 7) and Banjo Goodlet (Year 6) all played important roles for their side. The boys played well and gave it their all. Unfortunately though the result didn’t go their way, eventually going down to an undefeated Orange.

We are all immensely proud of these fine boys, they are champions of the future!

From the P&F Mr Grant Baker P&F President

Parent Welcome – Parents’ Party Under the Stars You will have read Mr Weeks’ report in The Roar last week about this fabulous event.

We were treated to beautiful weather on the night.

The luscious lawn was decorated with festoon lighting and tables with greenery and candles. The working group of College staff and P&F members did a tremendous job.

The College catering team served tasty treats early in the evening and then presented an incredible grazing table.

Whilst enjoying a drink attendees were able to mingle in a relaxed atmosphere, meet some of the College staff and new parents, or have a laugh with old friends.

I would like to recongise the P&F working group of Annabelle Hillsdon, Sue Rogers, Gemma Green, and Melanie Jacobsen who worked with Mel Monico from the College to bring the night together. Mel was instrumental as the link to the College, and the fantastic teams led by Jenny Donnelly and Jeff Reeks. Thank you all so much.

Scots Campus seating In November, the Association provided funding to offer our senior children on the Scots Campus more seating options on the school grounds.

Last weekend a working bee managed to get all 13 picnic table settings put together in one big day.

The number of nuts and bolts required was incredible.

Thankyou to Olga Burgess, Eric and Sandra Sharpham for helping ensure we got this done in a day.

Shortly, we will do it all again on the All Saints Campus to deliver more seating options for Junior and Middle School students.

P&F Meeting The second meeting of the Association for 2020 was well attended by parents and the College team on Wednesday evening at Scots Campus. The Head of College report from Mr John Weeks shared some very timely information about how schools are working with NSW Health to manage the spread of the Coronavirus.

Mr Weeks shared plans on how the College is developing the Sports Academy with the appointment of specialist coaches across many disciplines including fitness, rugby, hockey, swimming, track and field, netball and basketball.

It was pleasing to hear insights into how the College is involving students in their school environment so they can be accountable to identify problems and develop solutions to solve them.

Mr Jon Clipsham also provided an update on the Performing Arts Academy and the Annie - the Musical production.

I wish to acknowledge the support of the academic leadership team at our P&F meetings, which is strengthening relationships across the College community.

Friends of Junior and Middle School The Scots All Saints P&F would like to advise the College community that the Friends of Junior and Middle School (FOJAM) SubCommittee has folded. A number of previous members of FOJAM are now attending the whole of school P&F, which is great to see. As parents, we are all members of the P&F which represents the whole College.

It is recommended all parents to come along and contribute your thoughts and ideas to meetings held during the second and seventh weeks of term.

Performing Arts Academy News All things music, media, drama and dance continue to thrive within the Performing Arts Academy. In the lead up to Annie - the Musical we have rehearsals in full swing on Monday, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays! The final touches are being added to the sets ready for opening night in just over two weeks.

We are very excited to share it with our community.

Tickets are available via this link https://www.bmec. com.au/annie-the-musical.html The Infants Suzuki String program is also thriving with 34 students in Pre-Kindergarten through to Year 3 enjoying weekly lessons! Students are loving playing their violins in small and large groups. The program encourages students to create beautiful sounds, learning to play from memory in a fun environment. In the coming weeks, the students will perform for our Junior School. The performance will be a six minute rendition of Twinkle in an array of different formats. It really is quite special.
