Japanese Sister School Visit In a wonderful cultural exchange with our Japanese sister school - Yachiyo Shoin School, our College warmly welcomed two teacher officials this week. Mr Takeshi Takekawa, Chairman of the Board of Governors and Mr Tomoyuki Kaneko, Deputy Head of the Senior School from Yachiyo Shoin School. This is a prestigious private school of considerable reputation, located north of Tokyo in the prefecture of Chiba. Our team introduced them to students and they observed Junior and Middle School Japanese, PE and Mathematics classes and Year 5 home room activities. As our Sister School agreement continues, both schools will seek to further these mutual visits and opportunities for our students to enjoy cultural and pedagogical exchange.

Invitation to all parents to join us – Parents' Party – 29 February 2020 Our very first get together with all Scots All Saints parents and staff will be held on the Karralee lawn on Saturday 29 February 2020. I’m delighted that many parents will be joining us for this inaugural event on our College social calendar. I wish to thank the P&F events committee and our staff for their efforts in planning and organising a very fun and relaxed night. Make sure you order your tickets online ASAP. The menu is looking superb and it will be great to share some good conversation and drinks with you.

Ives House reopens as a newly renovated Senior Girls Boarding House After weeks of construction and designing, I’m pleased that all Year 12, 11 and some Year 10 girls have relocated to their boarding accommodation in the newly renovated and refurbished Ives House. With individual bedrooms, a gym space, recreation area and dedicated rooms for music and art. Mrs Lynne Woodlock, our Head of House has reported a high level of excitement as girls are settling in and enjoying their fresh and bright new space for living and learning.

I wish to thank Jeff Reeks and his team who have worked tirelessly over the Summer break to build a premier boarding space here at Scots Campus.

In addition to these improvements, all boarding houses will now have air-conditioning and wellappointed accommodation for boys and girls.

Regional Visits Our regional visits to rural and regional towns continued this week, with Director of Boarding, Mr Anthony Le Couteur enjoying his time meeting many of our families. Bible Reading Just as there are many parts to our bodies, so it is with Christ’s body. We are all parts of it, and it takes every one of us to make it complete, for we each have different work to do. So we belong to each other, and each needs all the others.

God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, then prophesy whenever you can—as often as your faith is strong enough to receive a message from God. 7 If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. 8 If you are a preacher, see to it that your sermons are strong and helpful. If God has given you money, be generous in helping others with it. If God has given you administrative ability and put you in charge of the work of others, take the responsibility seriously.

Those who offer comfort to the sorrowing should do so with Christian cheer.

Regional Meet and Greets It was wonderful for our new Director of Boarding, Mr Anthony Le Couteur to meet our boarding families from Bourke and Cobar - some of their children feature in our latest posters promoting the advantages of attending Scots All Saints College in Bathurst including 2019 Year 12 student, Will Mitchell who joined the Bourke get together.

This week our team will visit Parkes, West Wyalong, Young and Cowra.

Will Mitchell graduated as a first Year 12 student at Scots All Saints College in 2019.

The Mitchells have had 4 generations attend All Saints' College now Scots All Saints College - they currently have two daughters, Harriett Year 10 and Charlotte, Year 7 boarding at Scots All Saints College.

“Boarding and school life starts and ends with relationships so it’s important for me to travel to regional and rural communities, visit with our families and understand their needs. This is a partnership between parents, teachers and those who are looking after their children while they are away from home. Careers Advice Mrs Helen Jones

Working out what do to do with your life can be very challenging and daunting – not only for school students! Often the thing that stops us from pursuing a particular path can be as simple as not fully understanding the steps needed to get there. They say ‘knowledge is power’ and this is very true in the world of careers. Many of our students are preparing to transition from school into the world of work soon and one of the best things we can do to assist them is to create opportunities to experience different environments and potential pathways.

Early in the term a wonderful group of Year 12 students capitlised on such an opportunity and travelled down to the University of Wollongong’s Discovery Day. This subsidised trip provided a chance for our intrepid adventurers to step out of their comfort zones and experience life as a Uni student. We arrived in the afternoon, were settled into our Uni on campus accommodation, given a taste of Uni night life with organized games and activities and were fed a stock standard Gen Z Mexican dinner.

The next day was a full day of lectures. Our students pre-registered for different lectures according to their personal interests. Students attended lectures ranging from engineering to teaching, pre-med to linguistics, law to cyber security, digital and social media to business. It was a fantastic day, that had a tangible impact for some of our students. Days like these are never a waste of time, when you can actually

visualize yourself somewhere, you then have a focus and something to work towards.

A very big thank you to Geoff Wainwright for accompanying us and congratulations to all the students who attended. You took time out of your busy schedule and have started gathering information to what possibly could be next for you!

Exciting times ahead – First Undergrad Medicine Degree in the Central West starts 2021!

After many years of work CSU will be launching a JMP (Join Medicine Program) with WSU (Western Sydney university) with the first intake of students to commence in 2021 at their Orange Campus. They are holding an information evening on Monday 9 March at the Bathurst Campus. This free information night is for anyone! I will be taking along all interested boarding students and encourage any day students (parents welcome) to come along. From the P&F Mr Grant Baker P&F President

It is Week 4 already and I hope everyone has settled in, be that your children or yourselves.

Parent Welcome – Parents’ Party under the Stars The working group of College staff and P&F members are finalising arrangements for the very first Parents' Party Under the Stars welcome event to be held on Saturday 29 February from 6:00 pm on Scots Campus.

It will be a wonderful evening, where we will catch up with old friends and best of all, welcome our new parents to the College community, whilst enjoying a drink and canapés. The menu is looking superb thanks to the catering staff.

I encourage you to purchase your tickets online by tomorrow (Friday, 21 February) via Eventbrite at scotsallsaintsparents. eventbrite.com.au This is fast becoming a popular event with many tickets sold already, which is just fantastic. It’s great that some of our out of town parents will also be joining us and some College staff too.

Association Meeting – 12 February Our team was pleased to welcome six new people from across student year groups to our recent meeting, including some new parents to the College. I encourage you to continue to attend, and consider becoming more involved with the association in due course. All parents are welcome to attend our meetings.

I would like to thank Mr Weeks, Ms Leaf, Mr Jackman and Mrs Monico for their support of the association in attending the meeting, and providing us with updates on the College, commencement services, recent parent information nights and the variety of works underway. Most notably the Innovation Centre on the All Saints Campus, which will be a wonderful addition to the facilities.

Friends of Junior and Middle School An interesting matter that did come up at the meeting, was a query around the Friends of Junior and Middle School (FOJAM). It appears that some parents are not aware that FOJAM has ceased to operate, which was due to a diminishing group of supporters, and being unable to form a new Committee late in 2019.

I wish to recognise the previous Committee, and those who have volunteered their time at various events on the campus in 2019.

Please feel rest assured, the P&F Association is not just for the Senior School, it exists to support the entire College, across all campuses, and with your support, we will seek to find ways to ensure everyone feels supported.

We have only a small group so far, again… if you are interested in this program, please come along next Wednesday or see Mr Adams for details. It is a very good program for achieving the Duke of Edinburgh Award requirements.

Strength and Conditioning

Winter Sport Choices

We thank the students for showing such a strong interest in the Strength and Conditioning program. We have over 65 students in Years 9 – 12 already involved and enjoying the sessions. We have reviewed our timetable and will be looking to expand the program into the Middle School (Year 6 – 8). Information will be distributed soon and registrations taken. We ask that you please be patient as we endeavour to plan for the best interests of all students and the availability of the staff to lead the sessions.

Years 9 – 12 students were given details of how to choose their winter sport for 2020. The Middle and Junior School students will be given details very soon via CareMonkey. Once the students’ selections have been collected and lists generated by our Heads of Sport some more detailed sport information letters will be distributed to the parents.

Rural Fire Service Cadets (RFS) We have eight students involved in the RFS program on Monday afternoons from 5.00pm.

There is room for a few more, however they must start next Monday (24 February) as they will fall too far behind in their training any later. The program will only run in Term 1, then a revision of the skills learnt will be done prior to the Field Day and Graduation in October.

Mini Swim Meet A mini swim meet to get some race practice for our students before the 7 – 12 Inter-house swimming carnival will be held this Friday 21 Feb at the Senior Campus pool from 4:00 pm (races from 4:30 pm).

Students with commitments to basketball must play basketball first. We anticipate races finishing by 6:30 pm.

Army Cadets Our SASC Army Cadets is open to all students in Years 9 to 12. It is a voluntary program held on Wednesdays 3:30 pm – 4:45 pm in Terms 1 and 4. This program commenced on 12 February and will continue every second Wednesday in Terms 2/3. The Army Cadets program gives opportunities for our students to develop excellent leadership skills and develop personal skills in an outdoor setting and can be a lot of fun.

The program also provides opportunities for our Cadets to attend Army Cadet camps (free when run by the Army – e.g AFX), internal bivouacs and Army run leadership camps later in the year.
