A conversation with the Head of College Mr John Weeks

It’s been a great week! It has been a very exciting week for everyone to return to school and catch up after the school lockdown period. It was wonderful to see our campuses buzzing with the sights and sounds of young people playing, talking, and just enjoying each other’s company. While we are now back on campus there are still a number of requirements which are specific to schools. The latest guidelines from government are provided: https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-forfamilies Fortunately many of these are being further relaxed and this will continue now that our region has hit the 80% vaccination target. For example, you will read about the return of school sport from next week. The Year 12 Farewell Dinner, post HSC examinations on the 2nd December, can now have double the number of guests from 200 to 400.

As you may have heard/read, this has already been the case in many schools across the state and locally. If this occurs, under the guidance of NSW Health, set procedures kick in. In brief, all parents will be alerted individually, the relevant College campus will be temporarily closed (approx. 48 hours), cleaning takes place, and close contacts are informed following the contact tracing methodology. Any positive cases or close contacts are to be isolated depending on various issues such as proximity to the positive case, individuals' vaccination status, etc. We are well prepared should such a notification occur. As I write, it’s all systems go!

As the key restrictions change, we will keep you up-todate. Should the ‘unthinkable’ occur, and we have a positive COVID-19 case – NSW Health will officially notify the College. Campus East (Scots) Senior School, Boarding (Years 9-12) 4173 O’Connell Road BATHURST NSW 2795
