As our College grows and develops, we continue to review our structures for our students and our teachers. Students need excellent teachers and teachers need excellent support as their professional standards continue to change through government regulation. Our goal at Scots All Saints is to be a school of excellence for students and a school of choice for staff. To support these goals, a number of key structures are being put in place for 2021. 1. There will be a Deputy Head K-12, Head of Senior Campus who focuses on all aspects of student programs and operations supported by the academic, wellbeing, sports and co-curricular departments. 2. There will be a Deputy Head K-12 Teaching and Learning who focuses on the professional development of all teaching staff and the employment of new staff Deputy Head of College, Head of Senior Campus I am delighted to announce that following a national search and interview process with the College Council selection committee, Mr Andrew Weeding will join our College in 2021. Mr Weeding is a leader of strong Christian faith who is passionate about providing young people with the best environment and support for them to flourish. Andrew comes to Scots All Saints from Knox Grammar School in Sydney where he is currently the Head of the Senior Academy responsible for over 700 Year 11 & 12 students. He has held various roles as a leading educator including Head of Science, Head of Middle School Academy Year 9 and 10. He is currently the Head Supervisor of HSC marking for Chemistry. Supported by his wife Megan, son Ollie (Year 12) and daughter Millie (Year 10), Andrew has an outstanding track record inspiring students to high levels of achievement. He is a lifelong learner who has presented nationally and internationally on key educational matters. He is currently working on a PhD. on the benefits of ‘social learning theory’ which is a key element to the success of his students. Andrew’s demonstrated leadership skills and academic strengths along with his experience in boarding, pastoral care, sports and co-curricular make him eminently qualified for this position. We look forward to Andrew and his family joining Scots All Saints College in 2021.
Deputy Head Teaching and Learning K-12 A Professional Development and Research Centre on both campuses will be established next year. This is a role that Ms Tracey Leaf will lead from 2021. Ms Leaf is a leader of strong Christian faith who is well known to us as the Head of the Senior Campus. Prior to coming to the College, Ms Leaf had taught and held leadership roles in regional NSW, the United Kingdom and with an intensive period at the Australian International School in Singapore. Ms Leaf is already preparing for this new role with staff. I congratulate both Mr Weeding and Ms Leaf on their new roles and commend them to you.

World Teacher’s Day This Friday is World Teachers’ Day; a day to celebrate and be proud of our teachers. We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated, hard-working group of teachers in the Junior School and this Friday is the perfect day to say thank you for all the wonderful work they do.
ANTS (Automatic Negative Thoughts) Last week in my Practising Certificate for Wellbeing in Education course, I was introduced to the term ANTS. ANTS or Automatic Negative Thoughts are thinking traps or stories that we tell ourselves that aren’t necessarily true. Sometimes our brains get into the habit of repeating these distortions over and over, causing a pattern of unhealthy thoughts that can lead to low levels of wellbeing. Sometimes as parents and teachers we hear examples of ANTS; for example; ‘I’ll never be any good at Maths.’ OR ‘No one ever wants to sit near me.’ ANTs begin due to the Negativity Bias, which is hardwired into our brain. I’m sure many of us could think of examples of this. Rather than dwell on these ANTS we want our students to know that whilst there may have been something sad or upsetting that took place in the day there was most likely lots of other great things that happened too. If you find that your child comes home with an ANT, I’d encourage you to sit down and talk with them about how they can turn that ANT into a positive and also some of the good things that happened in the day too. It can often feel easier to focus on what we think went wrong in a day rather than what went well. Assessment Week Next week is Assessment Week. Teachers will be conducting end of year assessments. Whilst this year has been a different year in many regards it has been pleasing to maintain continuity of learning for our students.

Teachers use a variety of strategies when assessing. These strategies allow teachers to develop their understanding of student knowledge and understandings, skills, concepts and values and attitudes. Next week, students will complete a range of Literacy and Numeracy Diagnostic Tests. Analysis of the results allows staff to track growth, inform and guide lesson and curriculum planning and determine support or extension requirements for individual students. Innovation Centre Construction has started on the Innovation Centre and a hard working group of staff are working behind the scenes to plan the teaching and learning that will take place in the new centre. Exciting times! Stage 2 Camp Excitement is building in Stage 2 as they prepare to head to Taronga Western Plains Zoo and the Burrendong Sport and Recreation Facility on the 19 and 20 November. At this stage it is our intention that the camp will go ahead. NSW Health are now allowing overnight activities like camps to take place provided organisers develop and implement a COVID 19Safety Plan. The COVID-19 situation can change quickly so we will continue to monitor the situation and make a decision in the best interests of the students. Permission notes and further details will be released soon via Operoo. Pre K Orientations I’m very pleased to let you know that Pre-K orientations for 2021 will be going ahead as follows: 10 November - Pre-K 2 Saints 11 November – Pre-K 3 Saints 12 November – Scots Pre-K Group A (parents have been advised of their group) 13 November – Pre-K 4 and 5 Saints 17 November – Scots Pre-K Group B All sessions commence at 9:15 am and finish at 1:30 pm. Our Pre K teachers are looking forward to meeting so many new students and have a fund day of activities planned. Please refer to previous correspondence for COVID-19 safe precautions. Orientation Day - Monday 23 November Orientation Day will be held on Monday 23 November. We will welcome our 2020 Kindergarten students along with many other students across the Junior School. All current students will ‘step up’ for the day and teachers are planning a range of activities that cover key features of our program. Highland Dancing Kilts It’s been a long time coming but our new highland dancing kilts arrived all the way from Scotland last week. Mrs Weber is very excited to have our dancers perform in their new kilts in the near future. On behalf of Mrs Weber and all of our dancers, I would like to thank the SASC P and F which formally consisted of FOJAMS and the College P and F who both contributed $900 each to assist in covering the cost of the kilts.

Pre-Kindergarten News This week in Pre-K we have been exploring what it is to be thankful. We made chatterboxes with things we are thankful for such as houses, friends, family, games to play and clean water. It is also exciting to hear how we are helping our family at home with the jobs we are doing to raise money for TEARfund Australia. We look forward to choosing some useful gifts with our money next week to help children overseas. We have also had fun exploring halves and the digraph ch.

Progress towards our future vision Work has commenced on our new Innovation Centre. There will be some temporary fencing near the Science Labs to ensure the safety of the students. It will be exciting to see the progress and watch the new Innovation Centre take shape. We are also in the process of moving and renewing a cricket pitch on Stiles Oval, and work has begun constructing a high fence around our outdoor basketball court to upgrade this area to support the growing number of basketballers we have in the Middle and Junior School. It is also being resurfaced with a more appropriate plating for basketball.
The new pathway and bus shelter out the front of the campus is almost complete. The next phase of this project will be to construct a more permanent fence to the bus shelter which will happen over the next few weeks. Our Kindergarten classrooms have been repainted, new LED smart panel televisions installed and we will be getting new furniture for the start of 2021. The purchase of playground equipment for the Middle School has also been approved and supported by the P and F, and will be installed for the start of Term 1 next year. Student Leaders Our new student leaders have been addressing the Senior School students during the morning assemblies this week, to introduce themselves and talk about their future initiatives and plans for their portfolios. It’s been wonderful to see our young people stepping up and to hear their plans and ideas. We wish them well in their new roles. Stage 5 Examinations The HSC Exams will continue until Wednesday 11 November. The Stage 5 (Year 9 & 10) Yearly Exams will commence thereafter: Year 9 Exams: Thursday 12/11 - Tuesday 17/11 Year 10 Exams: Tuesday 17/11 – Friday 20/11 Uniform The deadline for all students to be in the new SASC is Term 1, 2021. Parents and carers are encouraged to make plans to source any items of uniform required before the start of the new school year.

World Teachers' Day Scots All Saints College is joining World Teachers' Day on 30 October to celebrate all of our hardworking and dedicated teachers from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12. 2020 has been a year like no other with teachers having to adjust their teaching practices in response to the outbreak of COVID-19. From the P&F Mr Grant Baker From the Immediate Past President
Annual General Meeting The Association held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 21 October, with all Executive and Committee roles open for nomination. Thankyou to those who attended in person or via Zoom, and particularly to the College staff who continue to show their support of the Association and its objectives, by sharing information at our meetings. We received a report from Mr Weeks, providing a synopsis and highlights on the year that has been, across the campuses. In accordance with the Constitution, I presented my 2020 President Report and the 2020 Treasurer, Rhonwen Hazel reported on the Association’s finances. 2021 Committee Mr Weeks took the chair to call for nominations for President, of which there were unfortunately none, and the role is now considered a casual vacancy. He then asked me to chair the remainder of the meeting, and the elections for Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary The Association is to have an Executive consisting of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and a Committee of between 5 and 7 members. The following parents graciously nominated and were elected. Vice President – Gemma Green Treasurer – Natalie Cranston Secretary – Casual Vacancy Committee – Rebecca McCudden, Sandra Sharpham, Olga Burgess, Tonia Cox, Annabelle Hillsdon, Beth Jeffries, Sue Rogers and Melanie Jacobsen. The Executive and Committee must now identify people to take the roles of President and Secretary. Whilst these roles can be demanding, I can assure you, you get much more value out of being involved with the Association, and I would urge anyone interested to contact me, or anyone on the current Committee if you're interested.

Ordinary Meeting Following the AGM, the Vice President requested that I Chair the ordinary Week 2 meeting, where Ms Leaf and Mr Jackman provided updates on campus life, with a big reminder that we are approaching the end of the uniform transition period, and at the commencement of 2021 all students will be required to wear the Scots All Saints College uniform, and those uniforms of the foundation schools will no longer be accepted. The College Chief Operating Officer, Mr Matt Banning provided a presentation on projects that have been identified by the College leadership as priorities for the students. These projects will allow the Association to consider how it wishes to utilise funds, and strategically plan its fund-raising objectives into the future. The presentation resulted in extensive discussion on funds the Association already has secured for Middle School playground equipment ($55,000), which will now be transferred to the College. This project was identified two years ago as part of the transition, but was deferred until the Innovation (STEM) Centre development plans were finalised. The Committee agreed to provide $27,000 in funding to a new covered area on the Senior Campus to provide students with additional shelter near the Main Oval, and the Junior School will also benefit from funding for STEM learning resources being provided from funds ($4,748.44) raised by the old Friends of Junior and Middle School (FOJAMS). Recently funding has also been made available for the purchase of the 1st XV Rugby jerseys ($1,244), Highland Dance kilts ($1,800) and support to Friends of Lithgow projects. Projects funded by P and F In appreciation of the P and F It was an absolute pleasure to once again welcome some of our parents back on campus for the annual P and F AGM and General Meeting on All Saints Campus on Wednesday 21 October 2020. The AGM followed by the Term 4, Week 2 General meeting attracted good support with our many familiar, dedicated P and F parents attending. It was also lovely to see some faces in person and online, joining in to have their say on the new roles for P and F Committee and upcoming College improvement projects. Head of College, Mr John Weeks welcomed the new P and F Committee for 2021 and thanked Immediate Past President, Mr Grant Baker, Vice President, Mrs Sue Rogers, Treasurer Mrs Rhonwen Hazell and Secretary Sandra Sharpham for their contributions to the P and F during 2020 which was a very challenging year for fundraising and events. It was recognised that 2020 started with so much promise and collaboration with the success of the first ever ‘Parents Party under the Stars’ event and the plans getting underway for a proposed new College Community event which was postponed due to the impacts of COVID-19. It is hoped that the P and F will be able to continue to work with the College, grow participation and its strategy of ‘friendraising’ as well as fundraising in 2021. If anyone would like to get involved and help plan for 2021, the next meeting will be held in Week 7, Wednesday 25 November at 5:30 pm. We are pleased to report, the P and F Committee have allocated some funds raised from the efforts of parents and friends over the last year or so, including the two major College community events held at Scots All Saints College in 2019 (Highland Gathering and Spring Fair), towards funding these major College projects: $55,000 towards new Middle School playground equipment on All Saints Campus $27,000 for Covered outdoor area near Main Oval on Scots Campus $15,000 already reserved by the P and F to partially fund the resurfacing and fencing of the basketball courts behind the Bickerdike Centre on All Saints Campus.

Summer sports are up and running with Basketball, Cricket and Tennis competitions in full swing. Last week saw the commencement of the Basketball competition at the stadium. All players appreciated the cooler temperatures on the evening. Teams will take a while to develop their cohesion as many of the teams have new squad players. Signs were positive on Friday evening that team selections had matched the appropriate divisions of play. The cricketers had to navigate inclement weather in their quest for a meaningful innings on the weekend. The boys should be commended for their perseverance and enthusiasm in what we’re trying playing conditions. The boys have made a great start to their season and the positive attitude to training and comradery within the teams is excellent. ISA Tennis was held on the Scots Campus on Saturday in testing conditions for the players. The weather proved problematic as players braved the
showers to complete singles and double games during the morning. When conditions meant that games had to be cancelled some students persisted to complete their matches. We generally associate Tennis with fine weather, however, the players on Saturday certainly showed their mettle in the unfavorable conditions. Results were evenly split against St Stanislaus College team. WAS Touch Football makes a comeback this weekend when the Junior girls play some games against Kinross Wolaroi school. Games are scheduled to be played on the Old Boys Field on the Senior Campus. The opportunity to play fixtures between the two schools aside from the Monday evening Bathurst Touch Football competition will allow the teams to further develop their skills, fitness and mojo as we aim to rejoin the ISA Touch competition in the New Year.

Regional Visits continue – Griffith, Wagga and Cowra Our travels across regional NSW to meet with our boarding families and those seeking to enrol in the near future continued this week. This time our team headed south west with informal ‘Meet & Greet’ events in Griffith, Wagga and Cowra (to be held this afternoon). These visits have been very rewarding for our team as we get to know families in their towns and support local businesses along the way. Director of Boarding, Mr Anthony Le Couteur enjoyed being able to discuss new developments
as well as improvements to boarding at Scots All Saints College for their children. This is a lovely community event and we encourage any current or prospective families to join us. HSC Week 2 done and dusted!! Congratulations to Year 12 who are officially half way through the HSC! The last HSC exam this year is 11 November, but we already have a few students who have finished! To complete 13 years of schooling is an incredible accomplishment, and I would like to acknowledge all the hard work and sacrifices you have made along the way to get to this point. UAC and Early round offers UAC will start making the first of the SRS (School recommendation scheme) offers from the 26 November, so please keep checking your UAC inbox and personal emails for university offers. Remember, you can receive multiple offers but you can only accept 1 offer per round so you will need to make changes to your preferences to accept them. This process needs to be managed to maximise your offers and options. There are two early offer rounds before the HSC results and ATARs are released on Friday 18 December. Remember you need your Board of Studies student number and PIN to access your HSC results from NESA (from 6 am) and you will then need your UAC Student number and UAC Pin to access your ATAR result (from 9 am). The government-funded website, has been recently revamped and is available for all NSW citizens and features information and resources developed by career experts and professionals, using current data from: • 358 occupational profiles • 19 industry profiles • over 15,000 Australian higher education and vocational education and training (VET) courses. Parents and carers are often the most powerful influencers in shaping their child’s career decisions and pathways, therefore MyFuture has a dedicated section for parents and carers called Assist Your Child (https://myfuture.edu.au/assist-others). It will help you start a conversation with your child about the world of work and how to support and encourage them with their career decision-making. Key content includes: • Supporting your child’s job aspirations: learn more about future occupation. • Supporting your child’s career development: tips on how to help them develop selfawareness for career decisionmaking, identify career opportunities, build the confidence to make career decisions, and deal with career transitions. • Making good career decisions. • My Career Profile: an interactive career tool to help your child identify their interests, values and skills, along with a list of suggested occupations, required qualifications and pathways to get the career conversations started. • Career exploration: students can access resume and cover letter templates and career articles to help them apply for a job. • Information and resources to help your child choose school subjects that match their career, education and training aspirations.

COVID-19 Update - Keeping our College Community safe This week’s COVID-19 update will be quite short, hopefully a sign that things are settling down and beginning to return to “normal”. Firstly, If you haven’t already, I encourage you to review the updated COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols for Scots All Saints by following this link https://scotsallsaints.nsw.edu.au/wp-content/ uploads/2020/10/Updated-Protocol-for-Staff-and-Students-health-and-safety.pdf. The most recent update includes changes to student absences that will make your lives a little easier. For example, in many circumstances we no longer require asymptomatic siblings to stay home if a student is unwell and tested for COVID, this is in line with the current recommendations of the New South Wales Government. I would also like to issue another friendly reminder that there should be no parents or carers on campus unless an appointment is made and special permission sought from the Head of College or Head of Campus. If you need to visit a staff member please contact them ahead of time to make that arrangement. This will allow the staff member time to follow the required channels and obtain special permission for the meeting to occur. If you need to attend the uniform shop you are required to make an appointment beforehand and then sign in at reception before making your way over. We understand the occasional uniform emergency can occur so If you find yourself in this situation please go to reception, they will check that the uniform shop can see you and have you sign in prior to making your way over. We are asking that you do this so that we can ensure accurate records of who is visiting the campus. The ladies in the uniform shop have been asked to send anyone who hasn’t signed in back to reception. Please don’t put them in the awkward position of having to do so. The HSC is well underway and we look forward to allowing more to happen after its conclusion. We’ve always enjoyed a wonderful community spirit at Scots All Saints and are so looking forward to a time when we can do more together as a community and enjoy each other’s company routinely and without restriction once again.
