Schools are multi-layered organisations focused on our key purpose: the education of all children. It is a truism 'that it takes a whole village to raise a child.' Here at Scots All Saints, we have many groups, organisations and individuals contributing to ensuring the education of our children is the best we can make it. Those groups are teachers, coaches, tutors, support staff, members of the College Council, past student associations, the Foundation, and of course, parents!

Each group has a role to play in the ‘great partnership’ that defines our College and I believe we have a very talented and committed team.

The annual Spring Fair will be held this Sunday on All Saints Campus from 10:00 am. This will be a great day for all the family to come together and enjoy being part of our very special community.

This is a significant event undertaken by the Parents and Friends Association and I wish to acknowledge the wonderful work they have done in making this possible. A very special thanks to all the parents who are involved and those who have taken leadership of this event. All of your hard work is greatly appreciated.

Preserving and celebrating our past

A Committee of Old Bathurstians have been busy preparing for the launch of Stage 1 of the All Saints’ College, Old Bathurstians’ Museum.

Everyone is invited to come along to view memorabilia from the early school years in Bathurst spanning back 145 years including rare and interesting pieces from the archives.

The ‘Watson Room’ of the new museum will be officially opened this weekend at Spring Fair, Sunday Mr Tim Sargeant, Old Bathurstians’ Union (OBU) 8 September from 10:00 am.

Spring Fair a fun-filled day for the whole family

The first ever Scots All Saints College Spring Fair is set to be a fun-filled day for the whole family on Sunday, with foods, drinks, rides, music and entertainment.

Hundreds of people had been coming along every year when the event was the annual fundraiser for the old All Saints' College, with this year's Spring Fair to be one of the biggest social events on the school's calendar.

Scots All Saints College Headmaster John Weeks, alongside the Parents' and Friends' Association, welcomes local and regional families to join in on a day of festivities at the All Saints campus.

"The Spring Fair is a wonderful community event and everyone is encouraged to come along for a fun, family day out," Mr Weeks said.

"During the past 12 months, work has been underway with our College archivists and past students to develop memorabilia displays with artefacts and stories from the early days at our college. We are pleased to

announce the first stage of the education museum is planned to be open to the community at the Spring Fair and we invite everyone to indulge in this rare collection."

"The collaboration between staff, teachers, parents and students who work together to host the event showcases the tremendous community spirit at Scots All Saints College."

Food, farmers' market stalls, plants, fresh seasonal produce, music and dance entertainment, a kids' corner and a cafe will all be on offer.

There will also be a special area set up for fathers called dad's corner, which features a mechanical bull, gladiator jousting, model car tracks and gilder displays.

All-day ride passes will be available, which can be used on the dodgem cars, mechanical rides, jumping castles, a big slide and laser tag.

All-day ride passes can be prepurchased online via the Scots All Saints College website for $45 per person before Friday, 6 September, or for $50 at the Spring Fair on Sunday.

Individual tickets are also available at the event.

School tours will also run at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.

Uniform at the Eisteddfod All students are expected to be neat and appropriately attired for the Eisteddfod. They looked absolutely fantastic on stage for the verse speaking last week. A few key points of note include: • Students must ensure their shirts or blouses are kept tucked in at all times.

• Students must keep their hair clean and tidy at all times and wear it in an appropriate style.

Junior School Showcase It was wonderful to see so much talent on display at our Junior School Showcase last night. Congratulations to all the students who performed in the choirs, ensembles and bands and to all of our Music staff who prepared the students so beautifully! Well done!

Eisteddfod Season I was very proud of the effort our students put into their recent Verse Speaking Choirs at the Bathurst Eisteddfod. Stage 1 and 2 were both awarded a Highly Commended whilst our Kindergarten group came away with a Third Place. Below you will find an overview of the remaining dates and times that our various choirs, ensembles and bands will be performing. You are most welcome to attend these performances at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre.

• Only navy, blue or red ribbons may be worn.

• All students must keep their fingernails short and clean and girls only may wear clear nail polish on their nails.

• All students must wear a jumper to ensure consistency at the Eisteddfod.

Spring Fair I’m looking forward to the Spring Fair on Sunday. Many thanks to everyone who has worked so hard already to ensure the day is a success and to those who have volunteered their time on Sunday and in the days to come. Late for Sport Please note that when Wednesday afternoon training resumes next week, sessions conclude at 4:30 pm. Any students who haven’t been picked up by 4:40 pm will be taken to After School Care.

Sport Shirts The coloured house shirts were originally printed without the school motto under the crest. For a limited time, Noone will replace these house shirts free of charge (same size) with the school motto added underneath. This offer will be available until the end of this term. On Tuesday 17 September we’ll be celebrating all the wonderful learning of staff and students this year with a THRASS morning. Students will take part in a range of THRASS based activities and we’re asking them to come to school with either of the following:

An additional item of clothing that relates to a THRASS word - for example a dolphin fin, a crown from a king, a panda mask, rabbit ears or a chef hat.

An item from the THRASS chart to share with their classmates and to be used in class activities - for example a jar of jam, a toy shark, an old wheel, a feather, coin or a model house. The possibilities are endless!

There are lots of great ideas and we’d love to see all students embrace the day and celebrate in either of these ways.

School starts at 8:25 am Many students are arriving to school between 8:00 am and 8:25 am. Please note that supervision and morning reading don’t commence until 8:25 am.

Spring Fair September has arrived and already the weather is feeling warmer. This change of weather always reminds me of the upcoming Spring Fair which will be Sunday 8 September on All Saints Campus. There will be many activities and stalls that cater for all ages. I encourage all community members to come along and enjoy a fun day.

The day starts at 10:00 am and further details of the program can be found on the College website. I would like to thank all of the members of the Parents and Friends Association for their support of this event. A great deal of planning and preparation has gone into making the Spring Fair a successful day and I greatly appreciate the time and effort parents have put into the lead up work. Thank you also to the parents and friends of the College community who have donated goods and have volunteered their time to work on stalls to make it a memorable day.

Our weekly Assembly was postponed during the recent Year 12 Trial HSC Examinations, so it was great to meet again this week as a complete school. Tuesday’s Assembly was another wonderful showcase of the various activities our students are involved in and their achievements.

During Assemblies this term, Mr Weeks has talked with the students about our core values: Knowledge, Faith, Respect and Compassion. These values are at the heart of our College motto, ‘All For Christ’. As Christians we strive to honour God with our lives. This extends, of course, to our relationships with each other and the introduction of these key values has been the catalyst for some great conversations with our students about how we can be recognised as people of Knowledge, Faith, Respect and Compassion in our daily lives.

What an encouragement for those of us who work with young people every day, to hear and see the next generation express their desire to live as people who exemplify these values.

Winter Sports Tour 2020 Application forms for students in Years 10 to 12 (2020) for a winter sports tour to Fiji in April 2020 have been extended until Wednesday 11 September. Hard copies of the forms have been distributed and electronic copies have been emailed. The primary sports that we will be targeting include rugby, soccer and touch football for the boys and netball, soccer and touch football for the girls. The tour will blend together a range of opportunities for our students including playing three competitive matches, experiencing Fijian village life, doing some mission work (basic tasks such as painting), working with Fijian children by teaching them sports skills, sightseeing and general relaxation at a resort. The proposed tour will be for 7 nights leaving just after Easter next year. The anticipated cost will be $3350 (before any fundraising) and will include all expenses other than a passport/ visa and personal spending money. A nonrefundable deposit of $350 will be required by the end of September. The remaining equal payments of $1500 will be required in mid-November and mid-February.

Eisteddfod It has been and continues to be a very busy period for many of our students and teachers in the music and performing arts department who are involved in the Bathurst Eisteddfod. We look forward to hearing about how the students performed.

Cadet Bivouac This Friday evening our Cadet leadership group will be having a camp over at the Scots Campus to help them finish competencies for the Level 1A Cadet course. Activities such as using night vision goggles, using radios, cooking meals, setting up hutchies and sleeping areas will be done.

Netball Semi-Finals Congratulations to the 14 Green, 14 Yellow, 14 Blue, 16 Red, Colts, 3rd VII, 2nd VII and 1st VII netball teams who have made it through to the semi-finals. We congratulate the players and coaches and wish you all the best for the matches this weekend and for the remainder of the season.

Athletics Carnivals Our athletes have been busy on the track and in the field. The primary age divisions have had their WAS and HICES carnivals and done very well with quite a few students gaining selection into the HICES team to compete at the NSWCIS carnival. Our secondary aged students have had their WAS carnival and will head to ISA carnival next week.

Summer Sport Choices Information regarding summer sports choices has been distributed and is due back soon. We encourage students and parents to get their choices in as soon as possible. Once we get all the choices sorted planning of teams, coaches and season outlines can be completed.

It has been a very busy couple of weeks for the Scots All Saints College Speech & Drama students!

We had a number of students participate in the annual Bathurst Eisteddfod this year and many of them performed solo items for the very first time.

ICAS Competitions The ICAS competitions are being conducted over the coming weeks for students who have entered via CareMonkey. The competitions will be held over a number of different days which are outlined in the table below. This year all of the competitions will be completed online and students will use different devices depending upon their year group: • Years 2-4 will use their class iPads • Years 5-6 will use their class laptops • Years 7-12 will need to use their own laptops which will need to be fully charged.

Middle School Games Club Monopoly, Connect 4, Cluedo and Uno. These are just a few of the classic games that students in the Middle School have been engaged in recently. Games Club is held during Tuesday lunchtime for any interested students and it provides a wonderful opportunity to develop communication skills in a friendly and enjoyable environment. It also gives students a chance to learn how to play board and card games which may then provide them with an alternative to electronic games that are accessed via technology.

Road safety

Driving safely near school buses There is a 40km/h speed limit for traffic passing a school bus that is setting down or picking up school children. This speed limit is for all traffic travelling in the same direction as the bus, whether the bus is stationary or moving.

Lights will flash on the front and back of the bus reminding drivers that there may be children crossing or about to cross the road.

Buses can’t stop quickly because they are large and heavy vehicles. So, remember: • Reduce speed to 40km/h when bus lights are flashing • Give way to buses • Watch out for children crossing • Never park in or near a bus stop or bus zone.

Informal school bus stops Informal bus stops are not sign posted and are usually found in rural areas. They may be at the front of a property, or on the side of the road, which may make children difficult to see.
