Our school Established in 1851, Scotch College is one of the leading independent boys’ schools in Australia; committed to developing men of good character who are ready to serve the world. Our approach to learning is designed to nurture and enlighten the whole boy. Through a model of relational education, we help our boys to build collaborative relationships with their teachers and each other, as well as connecting them into the support, inspiration and expertise of the wider Scotch Family.

Through friendships, creative pursuits, physical activity and connection to nature – which begins where our single, Prep to Year 12 campus meets the winding Yarra River, and continues through our outdoor education campuses – they become joyful truthseekers, revelling in this wondrous

world and their place within it.

Scotch College boys become members of the Scotch Family, from their first day of school and for the rest of their lives. This family not only welcomes them into a global network of peers, mentors, champions and supporters, but also makes them a part of the collective impact of the school that is 175 years strong. The Scotch Family represents a legacy of contribution that lights the way for each new generation of boys.

Above all, we value and nurture a service mindset, guided by our Christian heritage and Scottish Enlightenment principles, where education helps us improve ourselves, serve each other and progress society. Together with our community, we shape generous, impactful, life-long learners, sending them out into the world to help make it better every day. Scotch College publishes the following information in accordance with the requirements of national and state funding legislation.

Procedures for managing student attendance Junior School Attendance Teachers in the Junior School record attendance twice daily, once during the first period and again during the pastoral period after lunch. Administrative staff checks for any unrecorded attendance after the morning session and notify parents via automated text message of any unexplained absences, prompting them to provide a reason. Late arrivals report to reception to be signed in and updated on the attendance roll to ‘Late’. Students visiting the sick bay during school are logged, and if unable to return to class, their parents are contacted and signed out at the office before they leave the school. Their attendance is marked ‘Present’ for the afternoon unless they visit the sick bay before the afternoon roll call, in which case they are marked ‘Absent’ for the afternoon session. Senior School Attendance Teachers in the Senior School record attendance seven times a day. Administrative staff follow up unexplained absences by notifying parents via text message prompting them to provide a reason. Late arrivals report to Middle or Upper reception for a late slip. Students visiting the sick bay during school are logged, and if unable to return to class, their

parents are contacted. Subsequent periods are marked Absent due to illness for the student. For Government reporting purposes, students marked Present in any two periods during periods 1 to 3 are counted as Present for the morning session; and any two Presents during periods 4 to 6 are counted as Present for afternoon session. Boarding House Attendance Roll call is done three times during every normal school day in Boarding houses – during breakfast, during dinner and before bedtime. On weekends, extra roll call is done during lunch time. All Boarding house attendances are marked by the relevant Boarding house using the leave management system Orah. All boarding house entrances are equipped with a check in/out kiosk for students to use as they move in/out of their boarding houses. All boarding parents download the Orah app and are required to use it to request leave from the Boarding house. Leave from the Boarding house may be initiated by the boarding student or their parents and guardians. Such requests for leave are sent to the Head or Deputy Head of the Boarding house for final approval. There are various leave types that have different absence periods and submission requirements. Guidelines are supplied to all boarding parents explaining this in detail and also made available via the School portal.

Academic outcomes From 2023, NAPLAN results are reported against proficiency standards with four proficiency levels for each assessment area at each year level, as follows:

NAPLAN results In 2025 students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 undertook NAPLAN testing. The following tables show the achievement of Scotch College students at each year level as measured by the National Assessment Program Scale.

E – Exceeding S – Strong

D – Developing

National Minimum Standards and Proficiency Levels

NAS – Needs additional support

Between 2008 and 2022, students’ NAPLAN results were reported against 10 achievement bands including five national minimum standards as follows: • • • •

For Year 3, the national minimum standard was Band 2 For Year 5, the national minimum standard was Band 4

There is no longer a minimum standard, instead, the ‘Needs additional support’ proficiency level is intended to identify students who are at risk of not progressing satisfactorily at school. A new results time series was established from 2023, which means results from 2023 onwards cannot be directly compared with results from 2008 to 2022.

For Year 7, the national minimum standard was Band 5

For Year 9, the national minimum standard was Band 6
