** the three lowest woodblocks should be shared by both performers in the frst movement. Woodblock pitches are to be set by the performers, provided they maintain the high to low register relation indicated on the score.
† temple bells shoud be placed on top of the timpani skin. Timpani size is lef to the performers´ discretion - for reasons of resonance, the use of a large timpani is advised.
PERFORMANCE NOTES
Movement 1
Te arrows indicate a transfer of the gesture between performers, which should occur seamlessly. Mallets are at the performers' discretion, but not too sof and identical for both performers.
Movement 2
An accent over a rest indicates an abrupt mufing of the instrument´s resonance



indicates the resetting of the pedal to its original position measures are two eighth note triplets long. Pulse remains unchanged indicates a smooth pressing of the timpani pedal forward
