PROGRAMME NOTE
On a certain level the music expresses the complex of feelings one has to go through while the most dramatic changes take place in one’s life.
The loss of a beloved one. Escape from the homeland. And many more. All these situations are always connected with the most violent actions in the history of mankind, called war. The cruel, absurd and inhuman way of making politics. This music also serves as a prayer for those suffering souls.

Erkki-Sven Tüür
Erkki-Sven Tüür was born in 1959 on the Estonian island of Hiiumaa. One of the most remarkable composers of his generation, Tüür is primarily commissioned by world-renowned performers and his music is played worldwide by outstanding soloists and leading symphony orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Philharmonia Orchestra and Wiener Symphoniker. As a composer, Tüür wishes to stimulate the creative energy of the listener: “Music has to have everything – overwhelming power, illuminating light, endless gentleness and the deepest darkness. Fury, pain, remorse. Everything that makes us human. And the tender touch of redeeming love.”
Erkki-Sven Tüür wurde 1959 auf der estnischen Insel Hiiumaa geboren. Als einer der außergewöhnlichsten Komponisten seiner Generation erhält Tüür Kompositionsaufträge von weltbekannten Interpreten und seine Musik wird weltweit von herausragenden Solisten und führenden Sinfonieorchestern wie den Berliner Philharmonikern, dem Concertgebouw-Orchester, dem Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, dem London Philharmonic Orchestra, dem Orchestre de Paris, dem Philharmonia Orchestra und den Wiener Symphonikern aufgeführt. Als Komponist möchte Tüür die kreative Energie des Zuhörers anregen: „Musik sollte alles haben – überwältigende Kraft, strahlendes Licht, unendliche Sanftheit und tiefste Dunkelheit. Wut, Schmerz, Reue. Alles, was uns menschlich macht. Und die zärtliche Berührung erlösender Liebe.“
