Sky Macklay
The music of Chicago-based composer and oboist Sky Macklay (b. 1988) has been championed by ensembles such as ICE, Wet Ink, Dal Niente, and Ghost Ensemble. Her recent projects include an opera set in a uterus and two installations of harmonica-playing inflatable sculptures. Sky has been commissioned by Chamber Music America, the Fromm Foundation, and the Barlow Endowment. Her orchestra piece Dissolving Bands won the Leo Kaplan award from ASCAP and her string quartet Many Many Cadences, recorded on Spektral Quartet’s Grammy-nominated album, also received an ASCAP award. Sky completed her D.M.A. at Columbia University and is Assistant Professor of Music at Valparaiso University.
Die Musik der 1988 geborenen Chicagoer Komponistin und Oboistin Sky Macklay wurde von Ensembles wie ICE, Wet Ink, Dal Niente sowie dem Ghost Ensemble aufgeführt. Zu ihren jüngsten Projekten zählen ein Opernset in einer Gebärmutter sowie Installationen mit aufblasbaren Skulpturen, die Harmonika spielen. Sky erhielt Auftragswerke von Chamber Music America, von der Fromm Foundation sowie der Barlow Stiftung. Ihre Orchesterstücke Dissolving Bands wurden mit ASCAPs Leo Kaplan Preis ausgezeichnet und ihr Streichquartett Many Many Cadences, das von dem Spektral Quartett auf einem für den Grammy Award nominierten Album eingespielt wurde, erhielt auch einen ASCAP Preis.
