NOVELLO
ORFEO I Orfeo I is projected as a ballet for solo male dancer, but it can also be presented dramatically in concert performance. Simple moves for the flute are indicated in the score – and where possible there should be some lighting effects. The flute should be played with considerable rubato: adjust the tempo so that synchronisation is approximately as written; it need only be exact where there are arrows. An accidental applies only to the note it precedes, EXCEPT where one note or a pair of notes is immediately repeated. Layout of Speakers

Orfeo I was commissioned by the BBC Transcription Service for James Galway and received its first performance on 4th July 1976 at the Chichester Festival, performed by James Galway. Duration: 13Âź minutes All the music on the sound track is played by James Galway. Any public performance of the work must give published credit to James Galway as performer on the sound track, and the BBC as producer. Recorded by the BBC Transcription Services Engineering: Adrian Revell Production: James Burnett & Thea Musgrave The work also exists in two other versions: Orfeo II for flute and 15 solo strings, and Orfeo III for flute and 5 solo strings.
