“RED FORECAST” Orchestral Theater III, was co-commissioned by the BBC and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. First performance, 26 November 1996, at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, UK by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Susan Botti, soprano, Mike Newman, video artist and Tan Dun, conductor.

The pre–recorded weather forecast on the cassette tape is read in the following seven languages: English, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, Spanish and Russian. The language chosen for each performance should be the one most appropriate to audience comprehension. The tape is available from the Rental Library of G. Schirmer, Inc. The performing organization has the option of recording a local forecast for use in performance.
When performing the Dramatic version, the Composer requests all musicians, singer and conductor wear casual 1960’s clothing. When performing the Concert version, all performers should be in concert black attire.
