Metamorphoses, Op. 121 n° 1 en hommage à Henri Dutilleux pour violoncelle seul

METAMORPHOSES op. 121 n°1 & 2 (2011/2012) Les métamorphoses pour violoncelle seul sont deux pièces de forme sonate écrite en hommage à deux compositeurs du XX° Siècle qui représentent pour moi des jalons essentiels de l’écriture pour violoncelle.

Les Métamorphoses en hommage à Henri Dutilleux op. 121 n°1 et les Métamorphoses sur le nom de Britten op. 121 n°2 sont une sorte de point d'orgue à ma production pour violoncelle seul qui compte à ce jour six Suites et une Sonate-Méditation.

Le point d'orgue peut marquer la fin d'une oeuvre ou bien une césure importante avant un nouveau départ, l'avenir le dira. Ce qui est sûr c'est mon acharnement à régler mes dettes stylistiques en prenant pour exemple et comme point de départ, de façon plus ou moins consciente pour ma musique pour violoncelle seul, Bach, Britten, Dutilleux et Hindemith.

METAMORPHOSES EN HOMMAGE A HENRI DUTILLEUX op. 121 n°1— 2011 (5 mn) pour violoncelle seul Commande du Festival Inouies (Arras) Adagio misterioso - Tema (Allegro moderato e maestoso) A Fabrice Bihan Première audition, Festival Inouies 2011, Arras, 19 août 2011 Fabrice Bihan Ici c'est évidemment une oeuvre qui doit beaucoup à Dutilleux puisque, à la demande des organisateurs du Festival Inouies 2011, elle comprend une très brève citation de "Tout un monde lontain..." et qu'elle base sa thématique de façon à ce que cette citation soit parfaitement intégrée à l'ensemble.

Il s'agit d'une forme sonate bithématique précédée d'une introduction lente dans le caractère d'une improvisation. Le premier thème est noté Allegro moderato e maestoso et fait un emploi abondant d'une polyphonie au lyrisme volontaire. Le second thème se base sur un motif plaintif de demi-ton sur un continuo de double-croches. Après un développement qui reprend tour à tour les éléments du premier et du second thème, la réexposition est précédée d'un bref rappel de l'introduction. La réexposition est suivie d'un développement terminal assez conséquent comprenant la citation du chef-d'oeuvre de Dutilleux.

Suscitée par Nicole Corti, directrice musicale du chœur Britten pour son trentième anniversaire, il était tentant pour moi qui avais dédié mes trois premières suites pour violoncelle seul à la mémoire de Britten de faire de cette œuvre un ultime hommage au compositeur de Peter Grimes et de boucler ainsi la boucle…

L’œuvre commence par un premier thème (noté Adagio maestoso) assez agité et rappelant, avec ses rythmes pointés l’ouverture à la française, dont les deux premières mesures utilisent, selon la technique du sogetto cavato, les lettres B.E.A.M.B.R.I.E correspondant dans la notation anglo-saxonne mais aussi dans la notation latine aux notes Si bémol, Mi, La, Mi bémol, Si bémol, Ré bémol, Mi bémol, Mi. Le second thème, noté Calmo e mesto, est sur la mineur et la bémol Majeur (plus que en la mineur et La bémol majeur) tandis que le développement (Doppio movimento) revient au premier thème dans le caractère comme dans la thématique.

La réexposition est suivie d’une coda (Presto brillante) qui semble prendre congé avec panache d’un instrument, un des plus chers à mon âme, en mettant en valeur son aspect chevaleresque.
