of One New Street. This key property checked a number of boxes in the newly updated strategic plan, including a retail space, two separate employee housing units, and the Trust’s offices. With the support of the owners, the Trust was able to close on this acquisition just in time to announce it at the Annual Meeting in July.

The Trust’s summer events (Annual Meeting, Gala, Young Members, Patron’s Party) provided a great opportunity for celebrating the organization’s 40th Anniversary and announcing its strategic acquisitions in the village core. The feedback from the membership and the community was very positive, and created a great deal of energy and support for the Trust’s new active role as a mission-driven landlord.

The Trust continued to build on its long-time partnership with the Nantucket Land Bank. The organizations worked together on two key community access initiatives: 1) the rebuilding of a new set of beach stairs at Magnolia Lane, and 2) the extension of the Heller Trails out to Milestone Road to connect over to Ruddick Commons.

Trust members George and Julia Wilcox made a generous gift of two beach-front parcels on Low Beach Road that abut other undeveloped land owned by the Town and the Land Bank. Combined, these beautiful lots increased the Trust’s land holdings by another 1.4 acres, and added additional dune property to its portfolio.

The landscape restoration work at the Gully Road property continued to take hold, repopulating the beautiful dunes with native grasses and plantings, and preparing for future generations to enjoy beautiful vistas and access to a public beach.

As 2024 came to a close, the Trust staff and board looked back feeling good about the updated strategic plan and mission, the broad-based support from the community, the acquisition of several new properties to further its commercial center strategy, and the significant generosity from its members as a number of key gift pledges were made in the quiet phase of the “Keeping ’Sconset” capital campaign.

Chairs Ashely and Benjy Ghriskey Beautiful weather—no fog in sight—greeted our runners and walkers at the starting lines for our 7th Jog in the Fog held on July 27, 2024.

With around 90 runners starting in Ruddick Commons and over 100 walkers starting from Buttefly Lane, we had an amazing crowd.

The ’Sconset community spirit was strong with our wonderful volunteers cheering participants on as they followed the route through the streets of our village and to the finish line at Sankaty Head Lighthouse for a celebration and of course the much loved donuts!
