Mozart & Fauré
Thursday 11 March, 7.30pm
Susan Tomes - Piano
The second of our March concerts throws the spotlight firmly on the piano, as we present two delightful quartets.
To begin, one of Mozart’s most popular chamber works, the Piano Quartet in G Minor which was one of the first pieces of its kind. The maestro’s trademark virtuosity and imagination are evident throughout this complex and passionate piece, which is fiendishly challenging to play.
Following Mozart’s path, Fauré’s youthful Piano Quartet No 1 is widely considered to be one of his masterpieces. Despite being composed during a particularly stormy period in his emotional life, the music is never self-indulgent, but shines with a delicate intimacy of sound.
Filmed at The Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, this concert will be broadcast via SCO’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
