AsanyonewhohasvisitedanERlatelyhasrealized,therearesignificantwaitsatER’sthroughoutSouthernCalifornia.Thesedelays arecausedbythedominoeffectofinpatientswhoarewaitingtobereleasedfromthehospitalsobedscanbefreedupforERpatients. Approximately60to70%ofourhospitalpatientsgotoaskillednursingfacility(SNF)orrehabfacilityaftertheirstay.Therecanoftenbe delaysgettingpatientsintotheseoftenoverburdenedfacilities.SanAntonio’sgoalistobethefirstintheregiontohelpsolvethisissueby developinga42-bedtransitionalunithereatthehospital.Theunitwilltemporarilyhousepatientswhoarereadytobedischargeduntiltheir permanentSNFisavailable.
