I have wanted to join SCLAA for a while as I am working in the supply chain industry. I believe that the benefits that SCLAA offers their members are important industry trends, new legislative rules, advances in technology and new efficient supply chain tips all in relation to the supply chain industry.

How long have you been in the industry? What are your areas of expertise?

I have been working in a sales role for the majority of my career thus far. I have been in customer facing industries, from retail to hospitality to now achieving my final goal of being in supply chain management. I have been working at Mainfreight for two years in a sales role as a Telesales Executive.

With the experience obtained in my previous roles, and a Bachelor Degree with a double major in eCommerce and Supply Chain Management from Deakin University, I am able to comfortably work my way through this industry. I aspire to grow within the sales team at Mainfreight and become successful in fulfilling this role.

Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a feminist, grassroots organisation that supports women and families in crisis and advocates for social change in the community.

Our core work is providing crisis support to women and children through accommodation, material aid, biopsychosocial support, crisis responses and case management. Equally we seek to address the underlying causes of domestic violence, homelessness and gender inequality through primary prevention activities with businesses and communities. Each night at WAGEC we are accommodating 200 women and children. We are working to help build safe futures for all women and families by ending gender based violence in a generation.

QLD President Report Sept/Oct 21 It continues to be an exciting time for SCLAA with the association adopting a new logo as part of our rebranding. This reflects a contemporary association where we are continuing to improve and adapt on how we engage with our members. I welcome your feedback and ideas, when we next catch up. I have also been really encouraged to see an increase in individual memberships for Queensland, and a lot more members who are wanting to engage in our activities and to be part of the event planning. I certainly encourage if you want to be part of organising an event, please let me or the committee know and we can discuss further.

I would like to acknowledge the great networking event we had in September, at Green Beacon, sponsored by Sidekicker. Once again a fantastic night with a great turnout, and just highlights the strength of engagement.

As we are coming towards the festive season, we are finalising our events for the remainder of the year. Our next networking event will be at Brew Dogs on the 5 November, which is a great location for a beer and feed, whilst talking Logistics, so please come and join us.

We are also looking to finalise our popular Top Golf event in November and we also have our annual Christmas Hamper packing event with Foodbank in December.

SA/NT President Report Sept/Oct 21 After a very busy agenda Q1-Q3 of 2021 we are now in the middle of preparing our Q4 activities. COVID threats in SA unfortunately forced a postponement of our greatly anticipated visit to Metcash in September, but we are trying to reschedule this now as our wrap up Q4 event for 2021.

We had some very rewarding discussions during recent networking events, on building antifragility in the supply chain, which were triggered by Ethan Nikookar and Mohsen Varsei from the Australian Institute of Business. Some pertinent topics inside a pandemic, which reflected exactly the constraints and threats that a lot of businesses are experiencing in Australia today. These discussions pricked up many ears and gathered a lot of attention, so we have decided to plan a “Round Table” in Q4 2021 to speak with industry experts and academics about this new topic of anti-fragility in supply chains.

Another information evening was held upstairs in our old favourite ‘The British Hotel’ with Jordan Gansan as our guest speaker. Jordan delivered a very relevant talk on ‘Transport during Covid’ and specifically how Schneider Electric has been able to react and adapt from both a service and a cost perspective. This generated a lot of discussion in the room, well done to Michelle Faulkner for the fabulous organisation and arranging for Jordan to be with us!!

What we will do: We will shortly announce the reschedule date for our site tour at Metcash distribution centre, this will be a Q4 event if SA remains in a good place concerning Covid.

We are also planning a Roundtable discussion to continue our journey to uncover what ‘Antifragility in the Supply Chain’ looks like for different organisations. We will visit the University of South Australia at Mawson Lakes for the event, with Dr Li Meng to be our host and The Australian Institute of Business leading the discussions. Li has sent some images of the facilities at UniSA, a space which encourages open engaging debate and it will be a privilege to be able to host our round table event here.

Our mentoring program is still in its infancy in South Australia, with little uptake in 2021, so we encourage people to think about this as an exciting way to develop themselves in 2022, when we will offer the program again.

On a sadder note, the 2021 and 60th anniversary of our ASCL Awards have been postponed until early 2022 due to Covid restrictions in Victoria. This gives South Australian companies the extra time they might need to lodge an entry against any one of the many categories we recognise supply chain excellence for. Get in there folks …. what a great way to get your brand and efforts recognised nationally.

Finally, to close the year out we are going to announce another networking event. This one will be different, where we will take advantage of our Covid freedoms in SA, with members and guests taking the opportunity to walk together between Glenelg and Brighton beaches, breathing beautiful fresh air as we talk all things supply chain.

VIC President Report Sept/Oct 21 Firstly, thanks to all the readers for taking time to read our SCLAA Newsletter.

It has been a very long journey to get us to this point, but we are finally at the stage where we are able to look at a return-to-life as normal as it can be, which we all hope becomes the final return to work – for good. No doubt that over the past couple of years we all been through a lot but we at SCLAA strongly believe that challenges make us stronger and brings us even closer together as a team.

Despite another extended lockdown, the VIC/TAS committee has been able to achieve quite a lot over the last couple of months all virtually. To name a few highlights we had mid-term mentoring catchup where we had Renee Giarrusso (Speaker|Author|Mentor|Educator|Coach PCC|Motivational Intelligence & Strengthscope Profiler) as our guest speaker, presenting about Personal Brand Masterclass-Your Link to Supply Chain Success to all our mentoring participants nationally. Thanks to Renee as she selflessly offered her time, knowledge, and expertise to SCLAA on multiple occasions, and we are truly honoured to have someone like her supercharging SCLAA members in personal and professional life. Looking forward to collaborating more in the years to come. (Refer to some of the pictures from the webinar).

In addition to that we also had multiple webinars where we had some fantastic participation not just nationally, but we had international attendees highlighting the benefits of webinars as it has much wider reach. As unlucky as it was to postpone the date for ASCL Awards, we are excited about the March’22 since we’ll be hopefully having no limits and invite wider supply chain community from across the country. So, hurry and signup if you haven’t already registered for our biggest Industry awards that is being hosted in Melbourne for the first time.

We had our final episode of Her Stories on 20th October where we had 3 fantastic female leaders talking about key factors to Supply chain Transformations. Besides that, we are also in the process of finalizing few other events with our national partners, details will be announced soon. Finally, keep an eye on the SCLAA LinkedIn page as we are preparing for Christmas get together in person sometime around early December.
