MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

T

his year has seen the launch of the Energy Efficiency Information Grant where the SCLAA was successful in obtaining a grant of $734k. To Mark Skipper, National Director, who spent countless hours putting the submission together, we thank you for your commitment with this project which will roll out in 2014.

We have had joint collaborations with other associations (LAA,CILTA and CIPS) at the local division levels that have provided a vast array of programs, seminars and site visits for partners, members and their guests. In June we were advised by the LAA that they had cancelled merger discussions with the SCLAA, however I am pleased to report that these discussions have recommenced and I am hopeful of positive news that I can share with you in the New Year.

In November the Board had a strategic planning session in Sydney which developed plans for the Association for the next couple of years. These plans are underway and the milestones will be advised to all members as we reach those targets. The plans have been distributed to each Division and we look forward to the development of those plans in the future to grow the Association. Every Division has worked hard this year and to the President’s and Committee Members I thank you for all the efforts that go into developing the programs that you put on.

Membership across the Divisions continues to grow, and as mentioned that reflects the programs run by the Divisions.

The Queensland Supply Chain & Logistics Conference was also sensational again this year and that gets better each year. Next year the conference will be celebrating 15 years and in that time they have raised close to $300,000 for many charities across Australia.

The 2013 ASCL Awards that were held in Sydney recently and were attended by the (APLF) Asian Pacific Logistics Federation delegation, were exceptional and to the Awards Chairman and committee thank you for the all the time and effort in bringing the night together.

There were over 50 quality submissions from around the various divisions competing for the most prestigious Supply Chain Awards in the SCLAA’s 50 plus year history.

We continue to develop alliances with overseas associations such as the (APLF) Asia Pacific Logistics Federation, (SCC) Supply Chain Council (SCMP), Supply Chain Management Professionals –Canada and the (IFPSM) International Federation Purchasing Supply Management.

So what is in store for 2014? Well the SCLAA Board will be putting forward initiatives for further growth for the Association across its Divisions. This includes developing new Divisions in New Zealand, Tasmania and focusing regionally - growing our current base with members with activities, seminars, site visits conferences and webinars. We will still be collaborating with the other associations and strengthening the alliances further across the Asian region and Europe. There will be also a focus on obtaining new national partners to further complement our current partners.

The 2014 ASCL Awards will be held in Melbourne and in Perth in 2015 and the team is already planning another exceptional event, so watch for submission details for the Division awards as well in the New Year. There are more initiatives on the way, but we will advise you as we move into 2014. On behalf of the Directors I would like to wish the Partners, Members and their families a safe festive season and New Year and I look forward to personally meeting you in 2014.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR 2013 ASCL AWARDS Cont’d

he Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Australia (SCLAA) announced the winners for the 2013 Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards; which is the longest running national awards program in the industry. Having served the industry for over fifty years, the ASCL Awards are the most recognised 2013 and esteemed awards for an individual, or company to be awarded.

The 2013 Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards are proudly supported by ATN, Amcap, Dematic, EEIG -Department of Industry, Epicor, KTM, Microsoft, Rand, Big Ass Fans, Emberin, Crown, Enterprise Connect and Polystyrene Recycling Queensland.

2013 SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT AWARD The aim of the Supply Chain Management Award is to encourage and acknowledge the outstanding achievement of an organisation that has demonstrated significant achievement in managing the integration of supply chains. The trophy was first awarded in 1984 and is dedicated to Doug Beattie.

A High Commendation was awarded to Polar Fresh Cold Chain Services – Parkinson CDC. Polar Fresh Parkinson has gone through a major period of change and growth in the last 12 months with the implementation of fresh produce into the site. This implementation resulted in significant change to the operation of the business. Not only did it require double the amount of team members and almost double the amount of volume being moved through the site, it also involved the

physical expansion of the building. Their dedicated facility now employs over 650 Team Members and supplies all confectionery, milk, poultry, meat, dairy, chilled, frozen and fresh produce products to over 200 stores throughout Queensland and New South Wales.

The winner of the 2013 Supply Chain Management Award is ITW-Proline.

After a fire destroyed ITWProline’s 14,000 SQM warehouse (7,000 pallets) located at Smithfield the ‘Success through adversity’ program was developed.

This has been an inspiring journey as ITW Proline demonstrated Supply Chain excellence by recovering post the warehouse fire and the consolidation of the distribution network to ‘future proof’ the business.

2013 TRAINING, EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT AWARD The Training, Education & Development award will be presented to the company or institution that best demonstrates a significant achievement in aspects such as recruitment process, training, HR Systems, formal education and development programs which is both relevant to and promotes the supply chain and logistics Industry. The trophy was first awarded in 2002 and is dedicated to the late Professor Peter Gilmour.

A High Commendation is awarded to Super Retail Group – Leisure Division. Super Retail Group - Leisure Division implemented a Future Planner Program and an Inventory Management Career Pathway program to ensure that they could build and retain a talent pool suited to their business. A second major division of Super Retail group has also adopted the same organisational structure. A major success of this program is the APICS training that is provided to the staff.

2013 STORAGE & HANDLING OF MATERIALS AWARD The Storage & Handling of Materials award recognises the significant achievements in the techniques and technology of materials storage and handling at any stage of the supply chain.

Technology covers equipment and design techniques, including facilities design, and associated information and control systems.

The trophy was first awarded in 1980 and is dedicated to Dexion’s Founder, Demetrius Comino, OBE. The winner of the 2013 Storage & Handling of Materials Award is Kmart.

The winner of the 2013 Training, Education and Development Award is Transpacific Industries Group.

Over the past twelve months, Transpacific Industries Group has actively targeted the engagement of its workforce to enhance the way they do business and to attract and retain a more diverse workforce. The elements of this workforce initiative includes: Leadership Diversity – indigenous, Diversity – youth, Diversity – gender, Flexibility, Recruitment. This initiative has

Kmart was one of the first companies in Australia to implement crossbelt sorting technology. The most recent addition to Kmart’s supply chain network is the new DC in Truganina which features the largest crossbelt conveyor sorting system to be implemented by the retailer. With the capacity to automatically sort over 6,000 items per hour to individual orders for up to 88 stores concurrently, the new DC enabled Kmart to consolidate general merchandise distribution from its previous Hoppers Crossing, Laverton and Woodlands DCs under the one roof, providing significant cost and operational efficiencies for the business.

2013 ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE AWARD The Environmental Excellence Award recognises corporate leadership contributing to the solution of environmental sustainability within our industry through performance and action. The trophy was first awarded in 1966 and is dedicated to Ken Pike.

A High Commendation is awarded to OfficeMax Australia. OfficeMax was named one of Ethisphere’s World’s Most Ethical Companies in 2012 and again in 2013. It is accredited with ISO14001 Environmental Management System Certification and is a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant. OfficeMax has a buying policy in place to ensure ethical sourcing practices and through its purchasing decisions, it will continue to focus on protecting those conditions that contribute to biodiversity and other important ecological values.

The winner of the 2013 Environmental Excellence Awards is ENERGEX Limited.

The Energex Carbon Management Plan outlines a broad range of carbon mitigation initiatives that reduce emissions, improve efficiencies in energy and waste and drive innovation in delivering energy to customers. Energex is developing a Network Adaptation Plan to understand the impacts of future climate change scenarios on the network.

2013 INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AWARD The Information Management award is designed to recognise the business that can best demonstrate it has made a significant achievement in the application of information technology within its Supply Chain. The trophy was first awarded in 1994 and is dedicated to the late Len Smith FAIMM. A High Commendation has been awarded to SCHUB International.

SCHUB International is developing cutting edge mobile app technology that harnesses global industry best practices. Their innovative mobile app range for Supply Chain has reached double figures (10 in total available on Android and Apple devices) with plans for another 4 supply chain apps by early 2014.

The winner of the 2013 Information Management Award is IFC Global Logistics.

FreightSupplyChain (FSC) is a web based international freight and information management system that manages and distributes up to the minute supply chain information to importers, suppliers, freight forwarders, trading partners, warehouses and distribution centres.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR 2013 ASCL AWARDS Cont’d 2013 FUTURE LEADERS AWARD The Future Leaders award is designed to provide incentive and recognition to young professionals who are both currently working in and wish to continue their career path within the Transport, Supply Chain and Logistics Industry. This trophy was first awarded in 2009.

2013 INDUSTRY EXCELLENCE AWARD The prestigious national Industry Excellence Award recognises and acknowledges the outstanding achievements and contribution by an individual currently working within the Transport, Supply Chain and Logistics Industry. This trophy was first awarded in 1987 and is dedicated to Mr Mike Munns, FAIMM. A High Commendation has been awarded to Phill Dagnall, Procurement Systems & Policy Manager, UnitingCare Queensland. From working as a Contracts and Procurement Performance Manager on the London Underground through to the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) to his role in UnitingCare he has led and coordinated some highly successful projects. Phill plays an integral role in the procurement industry.

The winner of the 2013 Industry Excellence Award is Paul Kahlert, General Manager, All Purpose Transport.

Throughout Paul’s twenty-six year involvement with the Supply Chain, Logistics and Transport industries he has demonstrated significant contributions by helping to grow and maintain All Purpose Transport’s position as a key employer in the industry; donating his time and experience to Industry bodies; donating his time and services to charity; and spearheading a whole of workforce training and development program for APT which also had an impact on the industry as a whole by setting a benchmark for other companies to follow.

A High Commendation has been awarded to Daniel Esdaile, Business Analyst, Australia Post and Michael Holden, Perth Network Centre Manager, Centurion. Over the next two to five years Daniel Esdaile’s aim is to manage a team within a project or operational environment at Australia Post. In the longer term, he hopes to establish himself as a leader within the broader supply chain industry.

Michael Holden would like to invest more time in future, capturing the younger generations’ interest in becoming a part of this industry.

He believes that removing the perception that transport is not a respectable profession and assisting the on-going culture shifts in line with the industry standards is paramount to the future success of this industry.

The winner of the 2013 Future Leaders Award is Kingsley Cherry, Consultant, Project Procure.

Kingsley Cherry has been the leader for the Project Procure team acting in partnership with Charles Kendall Partners as the International Procurement Agent for the Republic of Nauru.

It is not often anyone has the opportunity to play such a prominent role in managing the supply chain for a whole country, even a small one - approx. $60 million. Kingsley is aiding the development of Pacific nations, something he has aimed to do, since starting his career.

SCLAA AWARDS LIFE MEMBERSHIP to his diligence, influence and commitment. Peter has been a Director of SCLAA since 2007 and has served as Company Secretary and Treasurer for all of that time. His high level of professional competence as a CFO has delivered tremendous benefit to the CLAA and its members. Peter managed the transition from a Melbourne based outsourced provider of Secretariat services to a new outsourced provider based in Brisbane, the ongoing establishment of the Association under the Company Limited by Guarantee business model, the centralisation of banking services, the conduct of Annual Audits and the Corporate Governance of the conduct of elections and the transition of Directors and Committees.

His management of the financial ,budgetary, and Administrative affairs of the SCLAA reflect great credit on Peter as the continuing sound financial position of a still fledgling national volunteer run Association attests. Peter is would be a worthy recipient of the recognition of Life Membership due to both the extensive duration of his voluntary work at both State and National level and the quality of his impact on the governance, financial and administrative affairs of the SCLAA.

Steve Ellis has been a member of the SCLAA, and its various iterations LMA and LAA, for over twenty years. He has served on the Queensland Committee for the past ten years as Secretary/ Treasurer making a significant contribution in the successful running of the Queensland Division. In fact because of Steve’s effort the State leads the way in profitability, number and style of functions, reach across the Industry in Queensland, mentoring and coaching programs and the set up and running of the Future Leaders Group. He has been a National Director of SCLAA for more than five years making a significant contribution to the structure of the National Organisation and its efficient and effective running. He has also been a part of the Queensland Supply Chain and Logistics Conference Strategy Committee for the fourteen year life of the event, providing significant input into format and strategy.

David Rogers has been a member of the SCLAA and its predecessors dating back to the Physical Distribution Association in the 1980’s. He was a Committee member in Victoria in the LMA with responsibilities including amongst other things, Site Visits, Treasurer and Deputy Chair. He has been a National Director of the SCLAA for five years and Chairman for past three. Amongst other achievements David has contributed for years as a delegate on the Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Award national committee, led discussions that resulted in a five year agreement with the CSCMP, represented SCLAA at SMART Conference, developed MOU’S WITH Asia Pacific Logistics Association, Vietnam Supply Chain Association, and Chinese Supply Chain Council, participated in the successful EEIG Grant application, represented and pursued SCLAA status/interest on the Victorian Supply Chain Excellence (TDL Roundtable) Project and has sat on RMIT International Trade Advisory Board.

uring the gala 2013 Australian Supply Chain & Logistics Awards the SCLAA awarded three life memberships for long-standing and significant contribution to the SCLAA over many years. They were awarded to David Rogers, Peter Hollins and Steve Ellis who between them have dedicated over seventy years to the SCLAA and its forbears.

Steve also led a number of State Government projects which were an initiative of the SCLAA with significant success in developing the Skills Formation Project which resulted in a process and database that assisted industry to formalise relationships and access between themselves and those organisations thereby supporting their sustainability. He has also been responsible for organising and co-running the Queensland Charity Golf Day for the past seven years where he has again ensured major dollar contributions to a number of worthy charities. He has been one of the organisers of the Foodbank Hamper Christmas charities event for past four years where SCLAA packs in excess of six hundred hampers valued at $100 each to provide to families that are doing it tough a little bit of Christmas cheer.

Peter Hollins has served continuously on the SCLAA West Australian Committee as Secretary / Treasurer since 1995 and as a National Director of the SCLAA for the last six years. The WA Division strong financial position is due in no small regard

Having gained post graduate qualifications for RMIT David has rich professional experience in Supply Chain and Logistics across various industries including brewing, pharmaceutical and health care. David has been a willing volunteer who over many years has served the SCLAA and the industry/profession with distinction and effectiveness. His work in forming relationships with international organisations is exemplary. He is fully deserving of the great honour of Life Membership. In his case it is a fitting reward for his dedication, resilience and pursuit of member value.

ASCL FUTURE LEADERS AWARD DEDICATION Until this year the Future Leaders Award category was the only award not dedicated to someone in the industry. The Future Leaders Award is designed to provide incentive and recognition to young professionals who are both currently working in and wish to continue their career path within the Transport, Supply Chain and Logistics Industry.

This trophy was first awarded in 2009 and during the evening David Doherty OAM, National Director of the SCLAA announced that it will now be dedicated to Vince Aisthorpe.

According to David, “Vince Aisthorpe is a Life member of the SCLAA, the Chairman of the Queensland Supply Chain and Logistics Conference, Chairman of the ASCL Awards and has contributed to the SCLAA and its forbears on both a state and a national basis for over 17 years,” he said.

A

s a part of the prestigious 2013 Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards, which were held at the Opera House the four female finalists for the Future Leaders Award received an additional award.

The finalists were Renee Cunningham, Relationship Management Analyst, Aurizon, Louise Elford, Strategic Program Manager, ENERGEX Limited, Cassie Morton, Sourcing Specialist, Aurizon and Natalie Pavlic, Parts Operation Analyst, Honda Australia.

Awards sponsor Emberin, who are a team of gender diversity and mentoring experts, work closely with listed companies, multinationals and government bodies in achieving gender balance and creating an inclusive culture. ASIAN PACIFIC LOGISTICS FEDERATION VISITS AUSTRALIA

T

he (APLF) Asian Pacific Logistics Federation held their Council meeting in Sydney from the 28th November – 29th November. Delegates from China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea and Indonesia met and discussed a range of strategic initiatives for the Asian Region , which included education, conferences, collaboration and developing the region in the pursuit of Supply Chain and Logistics knowledge. The delegation also attended the 2013 ASCL Awards at the Opera House and visited Metcash at Huntingwood, where they viewed the operations and toured the distribution centre.

The APLF also had a joint Board briefing with the SCLAA and agreed to collaborate and strengthen the relations in the region.

The APLF also elected the following members for the next two years : They are Mr He Liming re-elected as the Chairman, Vice Chairman, SCLAA – David Rogers, (JILS ) Japan Institute of Logistics Services - Masato Tokuda and (SIMM) Singapore Institute of Materials Management – Roger Lee. Delegates will meet in Malaysia in June which will coincide the MIPMM conference.

CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL LOGISTICIAN (CPL) AWARDED CPL status attests to your professional recognition by peers and employers, of your significant experience and knowledge to plan, implement, manage and improve logistics initiatives.

The SCLAA asked Matthew what made him apply for CPL qualifications?

Matthew has been in Logistics for over twenty years, with experience in a wide range of roles from Warehouse Management, Procurement, Stock Control through to Delivery Driver.

He has worked in the Police Service, Health, Defence and Building Supplies and has qualifications in Management, Purchasing and WHS. During Matthew’s Logistics career, he has also completed his HR truck licence, Forklift licence and Bulk Dangerous Goods licence. His interests include Operations Management, Cataloguing, Inventory Management and Forecasting.

The CPL is a professional qualification that aims to provide the definitive standard for measuring capability and professionalism within the logistics and supply-chain profession worldwide.

2013 VIC SCL AWARD WINNERS

he 2013 VIC SCL Awards were recently held at the William Angliss Institute. Upon arrival at the Institute our members, guests, sponsors and award recipients were entertained by the musical trio of Hevika, while enjoying canapés and drinks served by the students from William Angliss. Our Emcee Jeanne Snider, announced the award winners and gave a very insightful, amusing, topical talk on emotional intelligence in relation to managing your communication style with suppliers and customers.

Daniel Esdaile from Australia Post won the Victorian Future Leaders Award, and the Victorian Future Leaders Award High Commendation was awarded to Natalie Pavlic from Honda. Sean Milne, Victorian Sales Manager for DB SCHENKER, presented both winners with their awards.

Honda won the Victorian Environmental Excellence Award, the trophy was accepted by Priyani Withanarachi and presented

by Grant Gurney, General Manager Business Development for Yusen Logistics.

Asixa won the Victorian Training, Education and Development Award, the trophy was accepted by Roger Bradbury and presented

by Steve Harrison, Director Contract Logistics, Southern Region for CEVA.

Amanda O’Brien from Xtremefreight won the Victorian Industry Excellence Award, presented by John Cotter, Business Development consultant for TWUSUPER.

Congratulations to all the award winners from each category, and thank you to all nominees for your submissions. The William Angliss Event management students did a brilliant job ensuring all our needs were catered for, and the dinner served was enjoyed by all.

VICTORIAN WRAP UP

W

hat a massive year we have had in Victoria culminating in fun night in November to honour our State Award Winners. We have had over 12 logistics lounges, 6 site tours, a week at Manufacturing Week and countless education and networking opportunities through our partners.

The VIC Division would also like to take this opportunity to thank Suzanne Crowe, who has stepped down as the Victorian President after three nonstop and successful years.

Taking her place will be Damian Cosgriff who has been elected as the next Victorian President.

Damian has had a major influence over the Queensland Division, and 2014 will see him return home to Victoria after a 17 year absence.

One personal highlight for the year has been the collaboration between the SCLAA, LAA and CILTA to promote and attend each other’s events. From all of us on the Victorian Committee we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year.

SCLAA HELPS PACK 600 HAMPERS FOR FOODBANK

O

ver 150 members of the SCLAA, Queensland Division, spent their annual Christmas party for the fourth consecutive year with a twist. The SCLAA members spent the afternoon hours packing 600 hampers, for Foodbank to distribute to those in need at Christmas; many of whom are without employment, families with young children and living on the poverty line. As Ken McMillan, General Manager of Foodbank Queensland said on the day �The 600 hampers will be distributed to families in crisis at Christmas time with many living on the poverty line. These hampers will brighten up the day for many and we at Foodbank are grateful to the SCLAA and its members for this wonderful initiative each year.�

The packing of the hampers was a culmination of twelve months of work, over $70,000 worth of goods raised to go inside the hampers and generous support from many companies across the country. Each hamper is worth over $100 and is made up of food and personal hygiene products. In four years the SCLAA, in conjunction with the AIP and the APPMA, have packed 2400 hampers to the value of over $250,000.

QUEENSLAND DIVISION WRAP UP

ell Queensland Division has had another amazing year, in what has been a very difficult economic climate. We have had some exceptionally good site visits with the trip to the new K Mart warehouse a highlight of the year.

Our Logistics Lounges, have again proved popular with some high quality presentations. The Queensland Supply Chain and Logistics Conference again was judged by attendees as one of the best we have held. Our new format, with flexibility to attend on either of the two days or both days, along with Day 2 providing a series of Advanced Workshops in procurement, supply chain management or personal development was very successful.

The QLD SCL Awards and ASCL Awards program continue to grow from strength to strength with our state nominations at a record high and the quality of business or individual nominations continue to amaze me. Congratulations to all who were nominated and of course to the winners at both the Queensland event at the Sofitel and the national event at the Opera House in Sydney.

Mentoring again was a major focus for the organisation with the QLD Division being the first association in Australia to conduct a certified mentoring program. We qualified in excess of 70 individuals in this program which is a fantastic outcome and of great help to our own program where we have again more than 20 mentees being mentored.

The culmination of our year was the packing of 600 hampers for Foodbank, our charity of choice. We had 150 people attend this fantastic giving and sharing opportunity and as a consequence have given a bit of joy and hope to 600 Queensland families. An interesting fact is that we have now contributed over a quarter of a million dollars in-kind to this very worthwhile and important cause.

We continue to bring ‘new blood’ onto the committee, welcome to Louise Perram-Fisk, Skye Naesmith and Matthew Sheppard and the appointment of Nerida Kelton as the Vice President of Queensland is a great secession plan for us.

Unfortunately though we lose a real key committee member in Damian Cosgriff who is moving to Victoria, he shall be missed for his input and wit, but has taken on the President’s role in Victoria; congratulations Damo.

Finally, I would like to thank you one and all for your support over the past 12 months and hope that you will continue to support the association again next year. On behalf I wish you all a very safe and Merry Christmas, and hope to see you at a number of SCLAA events next year.

he NSW Division recently held a breakfast at Epicor’s North Sydney office and we heard presentations from Gartner and KPMG. James Lisica from Gartner presented on Achieving Logistics Excellence and the Logistics Maturity Model. Jeff Langley from KPMG presented their Global Supply Chain Maturity Survey. Both presentations are available to SCLAA members.

2014 will be an exciting year for the SCLAA as we have received over $734,000 funding from the Federal Department of Industry to assist companies save on energy costs in the warehouse and

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN DIVISION YEAR IN REVIEW

W

A Division would like to wish all of its members; all who have participated in events this year, and those who only have time to read the association’s regular mailings, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

2013 has been another successful year for the SCLAA in WA. The Division has staged regular events, ranging from breakfast presentations and site visits to evening sundowners; including the annual favourites; the Awards Day and Golf Day. WA Membership has remained strong, with a member base of one hundred being sustained, and event attendance averaging 44. Revenue has also been excellent, and all profit being used to further enhance the association’s member offering.

The energetic and diverse nature of the WA committee has enabled specific efforts have been made to promote diversity in the Supply Chain and Logistics industry with specific events focussing on Women in Logistics, promoting Future Leaders and raising student career awareness.

Site visits have included Linfox and Covs; breakfasts have featured AHG’s OH&S standardisation program, economic forecasts and Ernst and Young’s OEE presentation; and other events have included the launch of ‘Women’s’ Success and the promotion of Supply Chain and Logistics as a career option to Curtin University students.

Recent highlights have included the annual Peter Smith Memorial Golf Day at the Vines, at which FMG supplied the victorious team, the DMD Shelving team won the ‘NAGA’, and most importantly $23k was raised for CanTeen, with a particularly significant donation from the Australian Container Unloading Group (ACUG).

he other significant recent event was the annual Logistics and Transport Awards Day, staged jointly with CILTA at Ascot Racecourse. The roll call of winners was as follows:

Maria has won a trip to attend any Transport or Logistics conference anywhere in the world to the value of $7,000. For your support with these major events and all of the association’s other activities the WA Division would like to extend a special thanks to all of its sponsors and partners, both local and national without whom it would be extremely hard to operate.

The 2014 calendar promises to be even better that than for 2013. Two events (a breakfast seminar and site visit) are pencilled in for most months. Site visits to St John Ambulance, Rand, AWH, Kmart and Toll Intermodal are already pencilled in.

A particularly exciting initiative is the local promotion of the national, Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism sponsored Energy Efficiency Solutions for Australian transport and logistics SME’s. The WA Division will be fully supporting the national team rolling out this program to regional locations nationwide.

I hope that you agree, with all this in store for 2014, it’s an exciting time to be a WA Division member. If you are not currently a member, please consider joining. If you are, thanks for your great support, and once again, a Merry Christmas to you all!

A Division is pleased to advise that Daniel Di Stasio has accepted the role of State President. Daniel Di Stasio is currently working as the Operations Manager for Bunzl Outsourcing Services in Perth where he manages the Warehouse and Transport operation, running the dayto-day operations of the business. His sole purpose is to find ways to make the company more productive by providing effective methods in its business operations.

Daniel enjoys the work he does, the transport and logistics industry, and what it does. There is an ongoing need; people still need things to be brought into the country. He likes working with large teams of 20 to 50 staff, where there is the opportunity

NEW STATE PRESIDENT FOR WA to meet a varied group of people, with different personalities and skills.

For the future Daniel would like to take on a national operations role working in strategic or people management, and supply chain planning. There are different reasons why Daniel continues to work in this field, but basically he loves the work. He gets out of bed each day knowing that there will be something new to do; his job is never stagnant, never repetitive. He always has new challenges every day.

Daniel Di Stasio was the winner of the 2011 WA Transport and logistics Young Professional of the year and the 2012 Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Future leader’s award. He was also a finalist in the 2012 T&L Industry Excellence Awards, Young Professional of the Year. Please join with us in welcoming Daniel to the role.

NEW CHAIRPERSON FOR FUTURE LEADERS GROUP WA

A Division is pleased to announce that Heather MacPherson has accepted the role of Chairperson for the Future Leaders Group. Heather has been involved with the SCLAA since commencing her career in 2007 and picked up her involvement with the association when joining the committee a year ago. After working with SCSA for three and a half years and completing her undergraduate degree in Commerce (Logistics and Marketing), mid 2011, Heather commenced work for Woodside Energy as a Supply Chain Graduate. During the past two years Heather has engaged in many aspects of Supply Chain through rotations in Warehousing & Distribution, Inventory Management, Facilities Management, Health and Safety and most recently Procurement with the Graduate Project finishing early 2015 the skills she has developed include process mapping, supply chain analytics and project management amongst others. Please join with us in welcoming Heather to the role.

WA DIVISION AGM

A Division recently held its 2013 Annual General Meeting. At a well attended meeting combined with a wine tasting, at the State Tennis Centre a number of important election decisions were made.

Daniel Di Stasio was elected unopposed as the new State President, replacing the outgoing Stanley Fan. Stanley in turn was elected to be the WA representative on the National Board (alongside fellow WA committee member, and national treasurer Peter Hollins).

Many thanks are due to both Stanley for overseeing a period in which significant new blood, youth, dynamism and focus on female development has been added to the local association.

Daniel with his huge contribution to date in promoting the FLG and arranging the Golf Day and site will be a worthy successor.

This National position was vacated by Steve MacPherson, a holder of this position for many years. Steve also left the Division Committee after many years of sterling service, declaring himself (in his farewell speech) extremely satisfied with the amount of new young blood on the current committee and the vibrant running of the association in WA. The association owes huge thanks to Steve for, over many years, establishing the association as the top such organisation, both locally and nationally in the industries that it represents.

Aside from Steve, the other existing local committee position holders declared themselves happy to remain in office. In an atmosphere of positivity the wine tasting and networking continued, the program for 2014 was discussed, and both new and outgoing position holders were congratulated on their achievements.
