SCLAA National Chairman - Matthew Wragg

Matthew Wragg is Chairman of the SCLAA. Matthew is a Supply Chain professional and the Principal Director of MAEZ, a national consultancy specialising in Chain of Responsibility Management and Supply Chain Risk. MAEZ is based in Adelaide with satellite offices in Melbourne and Sydney.

Our world has changed and a revolution Is upon us. We will be delivered from stress and the terror of dying from a terrible disease. But in the mean time, our world has now been put on a different trajectory, that is for many still very uncertain. What we once knew as innovative will now become our normal surroundings. The Association must change with our surroundings too. If we do not, I fear the association will be left behind. I have always believed though that when there is fear and uncertainty amongst us, rainbows appear. Apart from stories of shut downs, the collapse of iconic brands and mass job losses, beautiful things all around us are occurring, which have the ability to give us all hope. Life as we know it, will go on, but what it looks like, will be driven by you and I. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Association has been working hard to revolutionise what we do and how we operate and engage our members. Discussion, agreement and work has commenced on our new future. While face to face networking and events are on hold, I am fearful of losing alltogether such an important aspect of what the Association delivers to it's members, but we will though, evolve into new space with technology helping us to deliver a new progressive way to engage with you. We will aim to keep our members involved with the content and the delivery of the content. Our industry by nature is social and immediate, and as such the Association must deliver a way forward that embraces those elements and engages members in all corners of Australia. As we progress forward You will see more Webinars and web content. Our team has been doing a great job of engaging all of our members with content and an environment to stay connected. The social interaction that this brings to all who have participated has been instrumental for many to help them keep going. While 2

we have been immediate in delivering this, we will continue to build on what we are doing for you. Our events that have historically been the backbone of our association are on hold. But they will be back. When we can throw that switch, we will. For me, it means that our future will enable multiple streams to engage our members, our future I believe is bright, different, but bright! I hope you too can walk with me on a journey that will embrace a far more reaching audience than the Association has ever had before. For the mean time, I wish you well, I wish your family is safe and secure and I hope that we all pull through the worst of this catastrophe in the coming few months.

Matt Wragg SCLAA Chairman

Congratulations to Matt and Emma on the birth of their daughter, Ava.

Straight Talking - David Doherty OAM Lives, communities, businesses, and governments have radically changed in a very short time. We are all being challenged every day to find ways to survive and cope. Resilience, courage and compassion are the requirements of the day. My experience traverses many years now. I have seen many occasions where communities have suffered from disease surges, wars, droughts, floods, and such. Two of my sisters died when they were just babies from the Diphtheria scourge. How my parents coped with that devastation has always been a wonder to me. My Father was unemployed at that time along with many others in their neighbourhood. But the communities stood tall in comforting and nurturing each other. The current pandemic is offering opportunities for people to display their true community spirit. Unfortunately, it is also bringing the dregs of society into the play with scams and deliberate flouting of the social distancing requirements. Penalties for those breaches must be harsh. I am of course in awe of the front- line warriors in medical, hospital, police, emergency services and customer services. However, Policing -in particular the issue of fines for social distancing breaches-must be applied with compassion and discretion. We are all learning as we go along. I am sure the Police are in the same situation. I have always been an avid watcher of TV news programs, yet I am now turning away from their sensationalist coverage of the Pandemic. Use of extravagant words designed to dramatize the reporting are a terrible indictment of journalism. Stick to the facts without embellishment! The same applies to Government announcements.TV channels need to 3

remove the young and inexperienced “reporters” pretending to know what they are talking about. What about refugees and disadvantaged communities? What can they do? Let me hear from experts with applicable knowledge and experience! A sense of balance and perspective is essential in managing the “crisis”. Hope is a decisive factor for overcoming the blight. People are suffering from other serious maladies too. We must ensure they are not forgotten. Supply Chains have also been put to the ultimate test. Globalisation is being seriously attacked. Reliance on overseas suppliers for critical items is bringing into focus the requirement for effective inventory control and allocation. Additionally, lack of manufacturing capability/capacity has demonstrated reliance on overseas sources that most probably have priorities other than Australia. Some years back I wrote a Straight Talk column saying the “Made in Australia” Campaign had been sold to China and would now be called the “Made in China, bought in Australia” Campaign. Perhaps it should now be called the” Made anywhere except in Australia” Campaign! The Commonwealth Serum Laboratories-now sold, rebirthed and dramatically altered as CSL Limited- was formed back in 1916 to create selfsufficiency for Australia in crucial life saving biological products (vaccines and such). The time is right to create a “self-sufficiency” Corporation to research, design, manufacture or source, and maintain inventory of products critical to the health and well- being of all Australians. Governments tend to focus on short term issues for election purposes. Mid and long-term scenario/

contingency planning is obligatory! After lockdowns and such are lifted will business, travel and indeed Supply Chains return to ‘pre crisis” normality? Confidence will be broken, many people around the world will be financially impoverished. It is time for innovative ideas to be enthusiastically encouraged to form new patterns/ models. Catastrophic events correspondingly create opportunities for effective change that would not be considered when things are proceeding easily. Now is the time for all of you to prepare with excitement for creation of a new paradigm of behaviour and business practices. Take up the challenge. There will never be a better opportunity to generate new personal and collaborative real advancements. The next wave of Supply Chain development is in the wings waiting for you. Some observations from various sources. - ‘Since being locked down at home without any sport on TV I noticed a woman sitting next to me on the couch. It turns out she is my wife. She seems like a nice person”. - “An opportunist is the guy who drinks the water while the pessimist, the optimist, and the realist are arguing about how full the glass is” By the way if you are interested in the events in Hong Kong then google Antony Dapiran. He has a newsletter that is fearless and inciteful. He has just published a book titled ”City on Fire-The Fight for Hong Kong”. Now on sale in Australia. New SCLAA National Partner CouriersPlease The SCLAA welcomes our newest National Partner, CouriersPlease. As a not for profit Industry Association, run by members for members, our ability to support the SCLAA infrastructure and to expand is highly dependent on our National Partners. We ask all our members to support our valued National Partners where they can.

CouriersPlease Overview CouriersPlease (CP) is a leading parcel delivery service, with a courier network of more than 750 franchisees and contractors that covers 95 per cent of Australia. It was founded in 1983 as a specialised metropolitan parcel delivery business in Melbourne, and was acquired by Singapore Post (SingPost), a leader in eCommerce logistics in 2015. CP’s core domestic and international services connect customers across town, intrastate, interstate and all around the world. In 2019 alone, CP delivered more than 19 million parcels – over 20% which were for firsttime delivery. In response to the exponential growth in online shopping, CP offers a suite of alternative delivery choices to provide greater flexibility for customers who are unable to collect their parcels at home. These choices include authority to leave in a safe place, nominate a neighbour within three houses in either direction to deliver parcels to, delivery to an alternative address, rescheduling to another date, and delivery to a ‘green’ collection point. CP’s collection network offers consumers secure, local 24/7 parcel access points through its Australian network comprising of more than 3500 parcel lockers in 45 locations and 2000+ retail outlets, in partnership with parcel delivery network Hubbed. CP has invested in world-class information systems and technology to provide the best practice technology to its 3500+ eCommerce clients. CP’s automated sortation system in its Rosehill, Sydney, depot has boosted efficiency for CP’s franchisees – 8500 parcels once took seven hours of manual handling, and now takes one hour. The sortation system comprises automatic parcel weight and measurement, a cross-belt and five-sided camera scan, which negates the need for manual handling by staff. In 2019, CP also launched Boomerang, a self-serve, low-cost returns portal which enables e-tailers to focus their resources on selling products instead of allocating resources to handle the challenge of reverse logistics. It also allows customers to return their unsuitable online purchases to a conveniently located drop-off point, which is collected by a CP driver and returned to the retailer’s warehouse for processing. After 37 years in the industry, CP has evolved from a local metropolitan business into a leading Australian logistics business that is enabled by advanced technology. It provides innovative mail and logistics solutions to provide a truly rewarding consumer experience.

HERE Technologies

- offers free delivery

software for Australian SMEs to meet COVID demands HERE offers free delivery software for Australian SMEs to meet Covid-19 demands •

Small to medium enterprises in Australia are the first to gain access to free delivery and route optimization software from HERE Technologies

•

HERE WeGo Deliver is set to help Australian businesses plan and implement their own delivery service during the COVID-19 pandemic, using live navigation maps and traffic data

A new route planning technology to help optimise deliveries and meet unprecedented customer demand is now available to SMEs in Australia for free for a limited time, thanks to HERE, a global leader in location intelligence. HERE WeGo Deliver enables businesses with a small fleet to operate their own efficient delivery service. By applying complex routing algorithms the fleet optimisation tool simplifies the process for multiple orders and drivers and helps reduce customer wait times while improving operational efficiency. Christoph Herzig, Head of Fleet Applications at HERE said: “Manually organising and sequencing multiple delivery stops and drivers is time consuming, and the margin for human error is significant. HERE WeGo Deliver makes it simple for both the business owner and driver by enabling the uploading, optimising, viewing and dispatching of routes all through a web dashboard.”

Christopher Herzig

With no sign up or subscription fees at all, this free to use software has been created specifically by HERE as a way to give back to society and businesses, in response to the continued pandemic restrictions which have resulted in low or non-existent footfall for many SMEs, notes Daniel Antonello, Head of Oceania at HERE. “Across the globe, businesses are being hamstrung by the economic impact of coronavirus and lack of foot traffic into store fronts, all of which means they are struggling to keep casual staff employed. At the same time, high service delivery fees and the limited availability of drivers is choking the system and making it as tough as it gets to meet this new consumer demand.” With customers now seeking reliable and quick delivery SCLAA Newsletter April 2020

“HERE WeGo Deliver gives SMEs the opportunity to meet the challenges of switching to a delivery model,” added Antonello. “This is something we hope will ultimately contribute to more small businesses coming out the other side of this crisis and keeping more staff on the books.” SMEs in Australia are first in the world to gain access to the premium, enterprise-grade capability at no cost for six months, with the initiative set to roll out across various markets come May. Owner of Sydney based café, Casual Mondays, and one of the pilot testers of HERE WeGo Deliver, Robert Reid said; "Before using the app, we were manually copying and sorting every delivery in our new grocery home delivery service. Since using HERE WeGo Deliver the admin involved for loading and organising our deliveries decreased significantly! From what took over 2 hours, now takes only 15 minutes. The simplicity of exporting the orders from our online store straight to the mapping software has made the move to a delivery service so much easier for our business. The technology provides me an alternative solution to save on third party costs, and more time to focus on other business priorities that ensures I can get our meals out to more customers each delivery day."

Powered by the HERE WeGo mobile app, drivers receive their personalised delivery tour plan by clicking on a link issued by the delivery manager via email. They are then directed on their journey by voice-enabled navigation.

of essential items, including food, medicine and work equipment, switching to delivery is a lifeline for smaller retail and hospitality businesses. However, many are struggling to meet this new demand and effectively serve their customers from their houses, apartments and offices, without bringing on delivery partners that take a sizeable cut.

By leveraging our open platform, we empower our customers to achieve better outcomes – from helping a city manage its infrastructure or a business optimize its assets to guiding drivers to their destination safely. New focus on the supply-side post Covid-19 Even for the best run companies, some of the biggest impacts of the coronavirus crisis have been felt on the supply-side. Globalisation, coupled with the conventional KPIs that drive the behaviour of Procurement personnel, have led inevitably towards many instances of dependence on single, remote sources. This can work for stable businesses in stable times but can be a hindrance if the market is dynamic – and is disastrous in times of severe disruption such as that which we are experiencing now. For example we know of a company that is attempting to return its production facilities at high capacity to supply the Chinese market as demand returns, but its running short of specialty chemicals sourced solely from Italy, one of the countries now worst hit by the virus. Another company which makes bleach and disinfectant, is seeing a huge increase in consumer demand for its products during the crisis, but can’t get beyond two production shifts because the childproof caps used to seal the product containers, are also sourced exclusively from - you guessed it- Italy! And there are numerous other examples we could cite. Undoubtably, we have gone too far in the relentless pursuit of cost efficiencies, and in the process made our supply chains overly brittle, unable to withstand sudden unexpected disruptions – or surges in demand! Now we must move back along the efficiency spectrum and accept that we may need some level of in-built redundancy, in the cause of increased resilience. We also need to think about where Procurement personnel sit in the organisation and the degree to which their decision-making is integrated. We know theoretically that strategic decision-making in silos is not optimal, but this crisis has highlighted just how dangerous it can be – whether it be sourcing strategy, cost optimisation, risk management or inventory policy – only an end-to-end view of the trade-offs gives us a chance of weathering significant disruptions. Here are some specific items to consider: 1. Change your organisation design and bring the Procurement function under the CSCO; this will increase internal co-ordination. Some of the best companies have already made this key adjustment.

6

SCLAA Newsletter April 2020

2. If you are a global manufacturer, divide your world up into regions, and review sourcing lines within the region. Are they/can they, be self-supporting? And can you engineer a greater overall diversity of your supply-base by having options across regions? 3. In each region, segment your supplier base along behavioural and capability lines, e.g., which suppliers do I wish to develop strong collaborative relationships with that will be sustainable through difficult times? Which suppliers can provide lowest cost for large quantities of product or components, albeit with long lead times? Which suppliers have excess capacity and could supply our requirements at short notice, albeit at a higher cost? Which suppliers are noticeably more innovative and will always find creative ways to meet our inbound supply requirements? A portfolio of capabilities increases flexibility in the supply base. 4. For some manufacturers, the solution will be to become more vertically integrated, by taking control of some materials and components supply back in-house. If the business has found itself competing for scarce supply during this crisis, the balance of insource vs outsource might need to be reviewed, and a new balance struck. 5. In some exceptional cases where the danger of being starved of key supplies has become apparent, it may be worthwhile to buy out or JV with selected suppliers of critical inputs to your manufacturing process. In this way your control is increased, and risk reduced. But none of this can happen without strong, overt leadership from the top. Leaders will need to be fearless in adopting new modes of operation in the future, and the climate for making major change will never be better than in the next two years. At the individual, business, and government levels we have found that the paradigm can be changed overnight – so we need to apply the lessons learned, quickly, and not let them get lost in the depths of the long-term strategy stockpile. John Gattorna & Deborah Ellis, Authors of Transforming Supply Chains (2020)

SCLAA Bushfire Recovery Action Group Over the past few months, the SCLAA Bushfire Recovery Action Group has been working hard to facilitate assistance for those on the ground in bushfire ravaged areas in NSW and Victoria.

Australia’s bushfire ravaged communities suffering the disastrous aftermath of the fires have experienced that LCI support and help over the past few months.

The SCLAA would like to extend their thanks to VISA Global Logistics for responding to the request for the transportation of donated tools to East Gippsland.

Donated Tools on Their Way to Bushfire Devasted Community Torquay Lions Club has been overwhelmed by the community’s generosity providing hundreds of tools and accessories for bushfire ravaged Buchan in East Gippsland. According to Torquay Lions President, John Bell, his club has spent many hours sorting and preparing the tools for delivery to the Lions Club of Buchan. “As well, Anglesea Lions, whose initiative the tools project was, gathered trailer loads which will be loaded with Torquay’s contribution to go to East Gippsland. “The rebuild of Victorian and New South Wales affected communities will continue for many months,” he said. “This has been a magnificent project of communities and organisations pulling together to relieve the concerns of people in bushfire devastated areas.” Lion Brian Keane, Torquay’s co-ordinator of the tools project, pointed out Lion Jim Tutt of Anglesea Lions was their coordinator and liaised with the Victorian Government for transport of the tools and accessories. “Minister Luke Donnellan and the Victorian Bushfire Recovery Unit responded to our call for a large truck to transport the tools and accessories to East Gippsland” Mr Keane said. “Altona based transport company, Visa Global Logistics, have donated a truck and driver to move all the donated items. “Torquay real estate agent, Bryan Hayden, provided us with advice about the damage in the Buchan area as he is often in that region.” “We have trailers full of garden tools; bins full of tools and accessories; and now have a truck to move the load to Buchan without charge,” Mr Keane said. “The generosity of our community has been overwhelming, and when we add in the great support from the Anglesea people through the Anglesea Lions Club, we are more than satisfied the tools project has been truly worthwhile.” Blaze Aid will unload the transport at the Buchan end and will ensure the tools and accessories go to those needing them. Lions Clubs International (LCI) is well-known for its financial support and physical help in times of crisis. 9

On their way. Anglesea Lions Club President, Trevor Taylor, and Torquay Lions Club President John Bell, farewell Visa Global Logistics driver Jake Ridolfi with his load of garden tools, bins full of power tools, wheelbarrows, and other useful items collected from local communities for bushfire victims in the Buchan, Vic, region. The clubs estimate the community donated about four tonnes of tools and accessories to go to Buchan. Visa Global Logistics provided their services free of charge, helping make the tools project successful. After a most successful call out by Anglesea and Torquay Lions Clubs for new and quality used tools and equipment; trailers full of garden tools, bins full of power tools, wheelbarrows, and other useful items being loaded on a Visa Global Logistics truck for transport to Buchan, Vic, where Blaze Aid volunteers will unload and distribute the items to wherever they are needed to help bushfire devastated homes and businesses be restored. Visa Global Logistics donated their truck and driver ensuring there were no costs for the Lions tools project. Anglesea Lion Jim Tutt (left) and Torquay Lion, Brian Keane, co-ordinated the successful call out by Anglesea and Torquay Lions Clubs for new and quality used tools and equipment to go to Buchan, Vic, to help restore businesses and homes following the devastating bushfires.

CouriersPlease streamlines parcel pickup and delivery with Zebra CouriersPlease streamlines parcel pickup and delivery with Zebra CouriersPlease is a leading parcel delivery service with nationwide coverage across Australia from 18 locations and approximately 750 independently owned franchisee courier businesses. Each franchisee has exclusive parcel delivery and collection rights to a specific territory. CouriersPlease offers both same day and next day delivery services and is heavily dependent on technology to enable it to be very price competitive in its same day delivery service. The organisation has recently launched its Delivery Choices PUDO Network of parcel lockers and retail outlets at which customers can pick up and drop off their parcels.

Challenge CouriersPlease was previously using a Windows-based operating system for couriers to manage their pickups and deliveries, but these devices were approaching their end of life. There were issues with functionality, durability and battery life that were significantly impacting franchisees’ ability to manage their businesses effectively. The old devices were also not able to support the new CouriersPlease CPGo application developed for delivery drivers, which is Android-based. CouriersPlease needed a replacement device able to run CPGo that was robust, easy to use and easy to see even in bright sunlight. The device also needed to have a long battery life and be able to reliably and quickly scan parcel barcodes that could be dirty, damaged or poorly printed.

Solution CouriersPlease are transforming from a metropolitan courier company to a tech based, digital ecommerce service provider and required the right technology to enable this. To optimise package operations and delivery, CouriersPlease chose Zebra Technologies’ TC56 Touch Computers for all its franchisee couriers and depot staff. The company now have approximately 500 TC56s running its CPGo custom courier application. For CouriersPlease, the Zebra TC56 was hands down the leading device amongst a number the company tested. “Scanning speed, battery life, device performance and hardware technology, ergonomic design and accessories for in-field application were key requirements, and Zebra provided a case for the TC56 that protects it if it gets dropped”, said James Hucker, National Fleet Manager at CouriersPlease. The Zebra TC56 handheld computers were deployed by Zebra’s partner Invia Pty Ltd. Each TC56 device was 10

SCLAA Newsletter April 2020

packaged with a cradle, that was then mounted in the vehicle for operational use. This saved CouriersPlease a great deal of time and resources. In previous installation of in-vehicle devices, CouriersPlease staff had to spend a lot of time installing and setting up devices.

Results Transitioning operations to the Zebra TC56 was seamless, fast and easy. Its Android operating system was familiar to franchisees and staff who previously used a smartphone. CouriersPlease franchisees also benefit from the voiceto-text functionality featured within the TC56, that was not previously available. This voice-to-text feature enables franchisees to easily capture addresses and other information from shipments. “The Zebra TC56 is the single most important tool for a franchisee. It must support our franchisees’ day-to-day operations and enable them to carry out operations efficiently and effectively without any setbacks”, added Hucker.

Future Plans Significant improvements in touch screen performance and Android operating system features will enable CouriersPlease to increase its market competitiveness through improved customer experience, courier efficiencies and new products. “We can now obtain GPS stamps across all deliveries and packages and provide relevant information to our customer service operators. This information can also be used for new product development." To download the full CouriersPlease case study, please click here.

We value Katies input and contribution to our NSW committee and her additional interests in and support of Mentoring and WISC. Thanks Katie!

NSW SCLAA Mentor and Mentee – Katie Walacavage and April McElligott

Katie Walacavage mentions above how she is enjoying Mentoring April and here, April has a few words to add of her experience so far….. Entering the corporate world as a graduate is a nerve wracking experience – How will I fit into the work culture of my first proper job? How will I juggle these new found responsibilities? How will I respond when facing difficult situations in the workplace? These ‘How will I’ questions I had for myself prompted me to investigate how I could properly prepare myself for this new chapter of full time work. Being a Supply Chain Associate, I wanted to be more involved with people of the same industry. I contacted SCLAA and within 24 hours I was at my first SCLAA networking event and was introduced to my new mentor, Katie Walacavage. Little did I know how much having a mentor would assist in helping me navigate through those ‘How will I’ questions. It’s been two months since Katie has been my mentor, and I could not have asked for anyone better. We have explored

topics concerning what it’s like being a woman in the workforce, effective communication and handling conflict. It’s not often you have a mentor and feel so well understood by them, yet I have found that with Katie. I’ve now realized how invaluable mentoring is… thank you SCLAA, without the association, I would not have been able to have had this opportunity! Thanks Katie and welcome to April. Have a safe and sane month ahead and I look forward to meeting more members and contacts through our webinars, meetings and coffee events. If you would like more information about membership or are considering joining our community as a National Partner, do please contact me.

VIC/TAS Division

Stephen Lakey - VIC/TAS State President As the effects of Covid19 are felt across the world I would like to thanks the VIC/TAS Division committee and members for embracing the rapid change we have seen in such a short amount of time. It was great to see the leadership team come together at this time of great need and support those who were affected whether because of job loss, financial hardship or health concerns the SCLAA team were there when needed. An important initiative this month is a check-up call to our divisions membership. Our leadership team will be hard at work over the coming weeks to make a call to each and every member to see how we can best support them over this time and to explain the changing format of our services during this time. Despite the disruptions we hosted several very successful events including the Last Mile Delivery breakfast seminar presented by HERE Technologies. This event was hosted in both NSW & VIC with the topic resonating well within the SCLAA membership with standing room only at the scenic 40th floor venue kindly provided by SCLAA national partner, Vertical Talent. Christoph Herzig outlined the challenges of the final leg of delivery and some innovative solutions that support the worker, provide benefits to the customer while increasing productivity and efficiency.

Our monthly committee meeting in February was our last face to face meeting and after our business session we were treated to a presentation by Rajnish Kumar on "How do we Attract Favours?". Rajnish leads a leadership group in Melbourne with over 4000 registered members and is an advocate (and fellow fan) of the writings of Napoleon Hill (see the classic book Think & Grow Rich). Rajnish presented an engaging and informative session on how to stand out and be noticed in what you do. A key takeaway was that the value you have to an organisation can be described by the quality and quantity of the service you render, plus the attitude with which you render it. The last

VIC/TAS Division part is often overlooked but vitally important for success! March was also the month of the much anticipated COBOTS2020: Intelligent and Collaborative Robotics Automation Forum. SCLAA was the official association for the event and chaired proceedings for the full two day program. The forum attracted speakers from around the world and gave fascinating insights into what robotics are doing now and in the future including a killer robot used in the eradication of the Crown-of-Thorns starfish which is causing massive damage to the Great Barrier Reef. Another highlight was the use of Robots on the farm which can detect and destroy weeds without the use of Chemicals and the worlds largest 3D printer saving builders millions of dollars by "printing" precision concrete casting moulds.

within the supply chain community during this time of physical isolation. The first event was very well received and has now been opened up to the National membership. Keep an eye out for the weekly registration email and the SCLAA Calendar of Events to save your place.

Upcoming events With the current restrictions in place, the move to online events is underway - keep updated for the latest information on upcoming events at the SCLAA Calendar of Events. Some webinar events to watch out for: • Workforce Trends, Challenges & Opportunities in Warehousing & Logistics During COVID-19 with Sidekicker • Increasing Warehouse Productivity through Smart Technology with Gamma Solutions

Supply-Chain-Caffeine This month saw the introduction of our weekly SupplyChain-Caffeine Zoom meeting. The morning catch-up over coffee virtual meeting was open initially to SCLAA VIC/TAS members and designed to support, encourage & network

While much has changed in our world one thing is for sure we can (sometimes painfully) see the importance of supply chain in our lives. Whether it is the supply of ventilators and health supplies to our hospitals, groceries and other staples to our supermarkets or the rise and rise of airfreight prices as flights around the world close. We can be sure however that there will be light at the end of the tunnel. There will be a recovery and the best option is to focus on the things we CAN control, ignore what we can't & plan for the bright future that awaits. Turbulent times almost always result in positive change at the other side and I look forward to what the end of Covid19 will bring. Possibly a community much more open to teleconference as a way of doing business and the benefits in efficiency and to the environment that will bring. The VIC/TAS division will be as focussed as ever on delivering member benefits and the support and wellbeing of our membership. I would encourage you to reach out to myself or any of our team if there is any way that we can, as your association, support or assist you through this time. The VIC/TAS committee look forward to seeing you virtually at one of our exciting upcoming events soon. Stephen Lakey VIC/TAS State President stephen.lakey@sclaa.com.au

New SCLAA Corporate Member New Corporate Member: TM Insight Why did you join the SCLAA? What benefits do you believe the SCLAA offers all their members? As supply chains become more globalised and complex, it is imperative that the industry comes together to find new strategies to help organisations adapt to new demands. This is why we decided to join SCLAA, as it brings together different organisations and expertise to discover global best practices and how that relates to supply chain operations in Australia.

How long have you been in the industry? What are your areas of expertise? Our company started in 2010 as a project management firm for major corporate occupiers on their complex warehouse developments. In 2014 in response to growing demand from our clients, we added a supply chain division to our business and hired Adam Noakes, former General Manager of Supply Chain at Kmart. Since then we have been advising major organisations on their supply chain transformations, particularly in the implementation of warehouse automation and the development of highbay warehouses.

What is current job role and what are your responsibilities? Currently we offer our clients an integrated service in supply chain review and design, property procurement and project management. We are responsible for the end-to-end concept to delivery of our clients’ supply chain transformations.
