As we close out 2024, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a year of meaningful change and progress at Scioto Country Club. With inflationary pressures easing, our Club has seen a return to more predictable financial results, finishing FY 2024 with a small profit. Beyond the financial outcomes, Scioto also entered the year under new leadership, evaluated capital project improvements to our facilities, and explored opportunities to build on the Club’s rich golf heritage. I’m grateful to the membership and our staff for their continued support as we work to make Scioto the premier country club in the nation.
Fiscal Responsibility
The fiscal year ending September 30, 2024, was a positive financial year for Scioto Country Club. Thanks to many factors, including prudent management and a stable economic environment, Scioto was able to exceed our budgeted financial targets for the year. At the November Annual Meeting, Joe Hayek, the Club Treasurer, reviewed the year’s financial performance, including the following key metrics summarized from his presentation:
• Income from Operations before interest, depreciation, and other was $322K, representing an improvement of $348K over the prior year.
• Total debt outstanding as of September 30, 2024: $8.2M, representing a reduction of $1.7M from the previous year.
• Ending Member Equity as of September 30, 2024: $22.1M, reflecting an improvement of $600K from the prior year.
With the North Campus Project underway, Joe also reviewed the Club’s capital resources and offered a look ahead at the 2025 budget. The Club’s financial health remains strong, allowing us to continue investing in our facilities and services that enrich the lives of our members.
Capital Project Improvements
As part of our ongoing commitment to improvement, we’re in the final stages of planning a major kitchen renovation. These updates will streamline operations and enhance the dining experience for membership. Depending on equipment availability and construction scheduling, we aim to complete as much of the renovation as possible during the Club’s annual shutdown this spring. We’ll share more details as the schedule is finalized. Once the kitchen is fully equipped, we’ll use membership survey feedback to refine the menu, balancing your favorite dishes with new options. If you haven’t completed the survey yet, please do so—we value your input.
One of the standout accomplishments of 2024 was receiving member approval and officially breaking ground on the North Campus Project. This development will significantly enhance our golf facilities, including the construction of a new Golf House to centralize all Golf Operations. This modern facility will serve as a hub for golf activities and events.
N O T E F
Additionally, we’ve broken ground on the Golf Learning Center, which will feature five double hitting bays, Trackman technology, and an innovative putting green system. These additions will provide members with a state-of-the-art environment to improve their golf skills year-round, regardless of the weather.
Tradition and Rich Golf Heritage
Planning for the 2026 US Senior Open is in full swing, with regular meetings and communication with the USGA underway. Chair Paul Heller, along with Bob Becker, Joe Falardeau, and Joe Furko, are working hard on the detailed preparations for this prestigious event. Our planning committee is focused on ensuring that our facilities, services, and member engagement will make the event a success. We’ll share more information on how you can get involved in the coming months.
Golf Course Access (GCA)
The GCA Committee has begun meeting regularly and is reviewing golf course access opportunities to better meet the needs of our diverse membership while ensuring the course remains in top condition. This includes evaluating scheduling systems, tee time policies, and member access during peak times. We will continue to refine these systems to provide the best possible experience for all members.
Looking Ahead to 2025
The Board of Trustee’s remain committed to Scioto being the premier country club in the nation, creating a world-class environment for golf, dining, fitness, aquatics, and racquet sports.
Thank you for your continued support and for being an integral part of the Scioto community. Together, we will continue building on our past successes as we move forward together.

The holiday season is rapidly approaching, and we kindly remind you to make your reservations in a timely manner. This is a particularly busy time of year for dining and events, and we wouldn’t want you to miss out on the festivities. Our clubhouse will transform into a winter wonderland beginning this week. With the late timing of Thanksgiving this year, followed by December 1st on the Sunday after, time is truly of the essence.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all members who participated in our recent survey. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us shape the Food and Beverage experience at our club. As you may know, we conduct surveys twice a year to gather insights on menu design, food choices, and service. In the spring, the resounding theme was a call for menu changes, which we duly implemented. Now, the feedback suggests it’s time to bring back some old favorites. We are excited to launch a new dinner menu in early December, featuring the return of some beloved items alongside the introduction of exciting new dishes. Menu design is an art of balancing competing demands – we hear you when you say, “Make changes, but don’t remove my favorite!” To accommodate all tastes, we’ll be rotating popular items across future menus.
As the outdoor season draws to a close, please note that the halfway house will be shuttered by the time you read this, and the restrooms along the course will also be closed. Our outdoor tennis courts are likewise being closed for the winter, with all programming shifting to the bustling bubble. The Racquets Committee is collaborating closely with the racquets team to ensure a vibrant mix of programming and open play within the bubble.
Our search for a new Director of Racquets is progressing well. We’ve received applications from a pool of talented candidates, both locally and nationally. We’re optimistic that we’ll complete the hiring process by the end of February.
As we enter this special time of year, we hope each and every one of you has a holiday season filled with wonder, safety, and joy. To our snowbird members, we bid you farewell for now, eagerly anticipating your return in the spring.
Thank you for your donations for our Annual Food Drive. Payroll & Benefits Coordinator, Megan Davey (pictured above) dropped everything off at the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.
Cayti Bundenthal
The One Who Always Has a Plan!
This month’s Employee of the Month is Cayti Bundenthal. Cayti has been a valuable member of our team for 2.5 years, and her dedication to making every event a success has truly earned her this recognition.
Originally from Dayton and now calling Hilliard home, Cayti has quickly become a key player in our Banquet Department. As Banquet Manager, she oversees and executes all of our events at the Club. Cayti's enthusiasm for her work is contagious—her favorite part of her job is the people. “I love interacting with everyone—members, guests, and my coworkers. And of course, I love a good party!” she says.
Cayti is always on the move, managing the logistics of each event with precision. From setting up rooms to arranging buffet displays, she ensures that everything runs smoothly and looks perfect for our members and guests. Her attention to detail is unmatched, and she’s constantly looking for ways to improve the event experience.
Outside of work, Cayti enjoys a bit of creativity—she loves putting together stunning charcuterie boards for friends' parties. She also enjoys exploring the vibrant restaurant and bar scene in Columbus. At home, Cayti is a proud pet parent to two cats, Tini and Manny, who were named after her favorite cocktails, Martini and Manhattan.
Cayti’s strong work ethic and upbeat attitude have made her a standout member of our team. General Manager Joe Furko, who nominated Cayti for Employee of the Month, says “She is a very hard worker and is always willing to do anything anyone asks of her. Her dedication to her role and her positive attitude make her a true asset to the club.”
Cayti is not only a fantastic banquet manager but also a great team player who is always ready to lend a helping hand. We’re lucky to have her as part of the Scioto family, and we look forward to seeing all the amazing events she’ll continue to bring to life.

North Campus Project
Construction of the Learning Center began on September 15th and until recently has been managed exclusively by Scioto’s Grounds Department. At the outset, we removed all the irrigation lines and relocated a preexisting mainline that sat beneath the building’s footprint. Near the end of September, we stripped away the rootzone mix and topsoil from the site.
The materials were stockpiled to the north of the sight to be reused around the site as it is completed. The soil excavated from the basement will be used to elevate a portion of the tee north of the learning center. The topsoil will be used for the grass and landscape areas. The root zone will temporarily fix the teeing ground north of the new structure. Given the skills and experience of some of our team members, namely, Tristan Myers, Doug Devore, Canyon Caldwell, Jake Rose & Mario Paliotto we were able to further advance the project and achieve significant savings by renting an excavator, a bulldozer, and two large off-road dump trucks in order to excavate the site and dig all the building footers ourselves.
Once the hole was complete, an outside surveyor staked the corners of the new building. Superintendent Tristan Myers dug the footers and other team members hauled the spoils to a location on site. Once the footers were dug, Lithco Construction installed rebar and concrete.
The entire team will help install the perimeter drain around the lower foundation of the building. This will involve installing a tile and filling gravel with buckets the entire building's perimeter.
I want to thank our team for all they have done on this project, including keeping the site clean and maintaining the golf course and Club grounds to allow members and guests to enjoy the course and all facilities with limited disruption.
- Bob Becker, Director of Grounds

Dear Member,
Last week, several of us had the distinct honor of attending the Southern Ohio PGA Awards Dinner, and it was truly a night to remember. The evening was filled with pride, joy, and heartfelt celebration as three of our very own were recognized for their exceptional contributions to the game of golf.
First and foremost, we witnessed a historic moment as Don Sargent, PGA, was officially inducted into the SOPGA Hall of Fame. Sarge’s remarkable achievements and dedication to the craft of teaching have left an indelible mark not only on Scioto but across the golf community. Listening to his story and seeing his legacy celebrated was an emotional and inspiring experience.
We also cheered as Chris Yoder, PGA, was honored with the 2024 Youth Player Development Award for his outstanding efforts in growing junior golf at Scioto and throughout the region. His passion for fostering the next generation of golfers is unmatched, and the results of his work are evident in the countless young players he has inspired and developed.
Finally, we celebrated Jackie Buckley, PGA, as she received the 2024 Player Development Award for her transformative impact on women’s golf during her time at Scioto. Jackie’s commitment to growing the game, especially for our women members, has been truly extraordinary. While she has since moved on to a new role, her contributions to our Club and her legacy of inclusion and growth remain strong.
It was a night of immense pride for Scioto, one that underscored the caliber of people who represent our Club. Don, Chris, and Jackie exemplify the best of what it means to be part of the Scioto family— dedicated, passionate, and inspiring individuals who continue to elevate the game of golf and the experience of all who play it.
Let us take a moment to reflect on how fortunate we are to have such extraordinary professionals shaping our golf program. Their achievements serve as a reminder of what makes Scioto so special, and we are deeply grateful for their contributions to our community.
Sincerely,
Joe Falardeau, PGA Director of Golf

Junior Golf SPlayerpotlight
Over the last four years we have seen a tremendous amount of growth and success with the Scioto Junior Golf Program. Many of Scioto’s Junior Team members have been working very hard on their games. We are excited to announce that three of our team members have vaulted themselves into the top 10 in the state of Ohio for their respective grad years. Mikey Pagnotto (2026), Mitchell Corbin (2027), and Eva Emerson (2029) have consistently put themselves in contention across several of the junior tours in and around the state of Ohio, including Golfweek JT, U.S. Kids, SOPGA JT, as well as qualifying for national events like U.S. Kids World Championships, Future Masters, and the IMG Junior World Championship. Additionally, these three juniors have been a huge part of their school teams success, highlighted by Mitchell Corbin and Olentangy Liberty’s runner up finish at the state high school tournament along with Mikey Pagnotto’s district playoff appearance at Apple Valley. Over the next three months we are going to highlight these three players and some of their achievements. This month’s junior golf spotlight will feature Mikey Pagnotto. Congrats Mikey and keep up the hard work!!
PGA Junior League has been a huge addition to the Scioto Junior Program over the past 10 years. Over the past two seasons our program has expanded to four in-house developmental leagues. Once a month on Saturday nights throughout the summer we see families and friends come together to watch their kids play in a fun, competitive team setting and often times stay and eat dinner on the patio after the round. This has been extremely cool to see and has been a fantastic way to get kids engaged and playing more golf.
This fall, in an effort to grow the camaraderie we have seen amongst parents and their juniors, we created our first PGA Family Golf Event. We had 12 juniors and parents playing a ninehole modified scramble. It was an awesome day seeing parents and their kids strategizing which tee shot they would use to position themselves or how they would attack the varied hole locations. There were many memorable shots and putts made throughout the day, including a hole out eagle on number six by Jay Musser. Congratulations to our tournament champions the Nye family. Branson, Lilly and Lydia won in a scorecard playoff over Jay and Jordan Musser, each carding rounds of 2 under par 34. Also coming in closely behind with a 1 under par 35, was Jerry Moldich and Teddy Scantland.

Courtside Conversations
Last month we discussed the scientifically supported benefits playing racquet sports can bring to a long, healthy life This month, I am going to expand on the social aspect of tennis in relation to competition Many times, Players have a wonderful experience playing in clinics or on their own, then can struggle when it comes to matches
Racquet sports can be extremely mental in nature Because of this, Players tend to get “tight” or have difficulty finding their game during competitive
play. The good news is, the more you play in matches, the more the nervousness goes away! Recurring competitive play also gives opportunities for Players to better understand their strengths and weaknesses and thus be able to establish both short-term and long-term goals for their game. Pro Tip: Instead of focusing on your own nerves, try challenging yourself to take in information about your opponent. In local leagues, Players can often face-off multiple times against the same challenger throughout a season. Take notes on what worked well to win points against your opponent, and what didn’t. Working through the puzzle of your opponent on the other side of the net can take you out of your own head enough to relax, play your game, and have some fun on the court!
Focus of this class is to improve flexibility and strength to promote injury prevention.
Classes will focus on the fundamental exercises and movements needed to improve your body and game
This class is ideal for all levels of golfers and varying degrees of golf fitness

F I T N E S S
It is hard to believe we have almost made it through another year. December marks the five-year anniversary of our amazing fitness facility. Time has flown! It seems like just yesterday construction began and we were looking at a giant hole in the ground where the platform tennis courts used to be. After only being open for a few short months, the pandemic hit. We all endured. With some patience and creativity, we were able to start with zoom classes and then eventually one on one sessions. As restrictions gradually loosened, attendance grew, and group classes were able to start up again. We thank everyone for their patience through that difficult time.
Now that normal life has fully resumed, the fitness center is consistently busy. We love seeing and conversing with our daily regulars and are thrilled when we see new faces. If you have yet to come see us, please stop in and check out the facility. Our knowledgable staff can answer all your fitness questions.
This month’s fitness challenge is simple yet spicy. Members will work for three consecutive minutes followed by ninety seconds of rest. In the three-minute work period, perform 12 calories on the rower for women, and 16 for men. Once the calories are completed, execute six single arm thrusters (squat then stand into an overhead press), and finally as many wall ball shots as possible in the remainder of the three minutes. After five cycles of three minutes of work and ninety seconds of rest, you will be done. Whoever completes the most wall ball shots after the five rounds wins!
As the gym gets busier for the holidays, we would like to remind members of a few rules from the Member Book; children under 14 are not permitted to use the Fitness Center unless they are with a trainer. Additionally, guests must be accompanied by a member, and the same guest may only use the facility twice per month. Friendly Reminder!

Healthiest Cookies EVER!
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 Cup Raw Walnuts
1 Tightly Packed Cup Medjool Dates, Pitted (8 ounces)
1/4 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Tablespoon Ground Flax Seeds
3 Tablespoons Water
1 Teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar
1/2 Cup Dark Chocolate Chips
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large food processor fitted with an “S” blade, briefly process the walnuts into a crumbly texture. Add in the dates, salt, baking soda, vanilla, flax, water, and vinegar. Process again, until the batter looks relatively smooth and sticky. Add in the chocolate chips, or any other mix-ins you like, and process briefly to mix them in. Use a tablespoon or 1-ounce cookie scoop to scoop the dough.
Drop the cookie dough onto the lined baking sheet, and use your fingers to flatten and shape the cookies. (They don’t spread much on their own.) I usually get about 16-18 small cookies from this batch.
Bake at 350F for 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. While the cookies are still warm, you can add a few more chocolate chips on top (if there are any spots that look bare). Let them cool completely on the pan, as they will be fragile while they are still warm. Store the cookies in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer, and serve cold for the most firm texture.
