Capturing Timelessness: When Pictures Speak Louder Than Words

I

n a world that never seems to slow down, where trends come and go like fleeting moments, we often find ourselves searching for the enduring, the timeless, the stories and moments that resonate across generations. At the heart of our book magazine, we celebrate the spirit of timelessness, where the power of pictures surpasses the bounds of language and links us in ways that words alone just cannot. We welcome you to discover the profound beauty of capturing timelessness as you begin this adventure with us. We consider that in a society inundated with noise and speed, it is the moments of calm, the sights that transcend the written word, that genuinely speak to our souls. Pictures are said to be worth a thousand words, and they are. A single photograph has the capacity to tell a story, evoke memories, pique one’s interest, and capture the everlasting spirit of a moment or a location. We may go back in time to ancient civilizations, experience cultural transformations, and observe the world through the eyes of artists and explorers via the lens of a camera. These photographs reveal the universality of the human experience, transcending language and borders. In the pages of this book magazine, you will find a visual tapestry that weaves together the threads of timelessness. From the nostalgia of classic black-and-white photography to the vibrant colors of contemporary images, we celebrate the power of pictures to ignite our imagination and provoke our senses. We invite you to embark on a journey through art, travel, beauty, fashion, watches, jewelry, living, motion, culinarium, technology, and finance, guided by the magic of photography. As you flip through the pages of this book magazine, keep in mind that timelessness is defined not by minutes, hours, or days but by the emotions and tales that images may express. Let us travel the world together, one image at a time, in search of the eternal riches that photos may reveal, reminding us that pictures indeed speak louder than words.

The Oldest Artwork on Earth A

rt appears to be as ancient as humanity itself. The oldest known human artwork may be found in the distant caverns of Blombos, a coastal region in South Africa. These ancient artworks, estimated to be 73,000 years old, give an insight into our distant predecessors’ artistic skills. Blombos Cave, discovered in the 1990s, has delivered a trove of archeological riches, including elaborately carved ochre objects. These reddish-brown stones were engraved with complex designs that some scholars believe had symbolic meaning for the individuals who made them. Blombos’ ochre works are notable not just for their antiquity but also for the intricacy of their patterns. Cross-hatching and parallel lines are used deliberately in the engravings, demonstrating high skill and creative purpose. While researchers disagree on the actual significance of these patterns, it is evident that these early people were expressing themselves via art. This study calls into question existing beliefs regarding the chronology of human creativity. It implies that symbolic thinking and creative expression have considerably deeper origins in the history of our species than previously imagined. The ochre engravings in the Blombos Cave attest to the everlasting human desire to create and communicate via art. They provide a rare glimpse into the thoughts of our forefathers, indicating a shared link to the creative spirit that dates back tens of thousands of years. We develop a better appreciation for art’s universal and everlasting essence as we continue to unravel the mysteries of our distant past. The earliest known artwork on Earth tells us that human beings were motivated to express themselves via imagery and symbolism, even in the most ancient of times, creating a lasting legacy that spans the years.

DID YOU

KNOW?

reuge

ode to lightness Reuge celebrates its renewal by inviting you to awaken your senses, to soaring imagination, harmony and openness with its creation titled “Onkõ”.

L

ightness, harmony and openness are omnipresent in the creative work carried out under the impetus of Denis Flageollet, founder and Master Watchmaker of De Bethune, and youthful Artistic Director Clara Martin, who are jointly breathing new life into Reuge. Lightness of the creative soul in the hands of Reuge’s artisans; in the design of the object; in the nobility of the materials; in the harmony of its mechanical operation and sound; in its openness to wonderment, and to what is to come... Onkõ offers an experience that awakens the senses. An ode to lightness that represents the future incarnation of the Reuge universe. Inspired by Japanese tõrõ lanterns and their symbolism evoking the five elements of the Universe: earth chi, water sui, fire ka, wind fu and space ku, Onkõ single-handedly embodies the five fundamental elements, while representing the audible metaphor and personification of the new Reuge brand identity. Like a gentle whisper revealed beneath its slender blond wooden slats, the gentle curves of its shape soften the rigorous discipline of its mechanics; the poetry of Onkõ speaks of Japanese minimalism that is a life philosophy inviting one to sobriety as well as an art of surrounding oneself with wellbeing, softness and lightness. Let the useful be beautiful and let the beautiful never be useless. Captivating, enchanting and magical, Onkõ brings to light not only its Sound, but also its Light.

Time Fast II in Chrome

T

ime Fast II celebrates the iconic lines of 1960’s formula one cars. The Chrome, renowned in the automotive industry for its ability to elevate car parts, finds new expression in the skilled hands of L’Epée 1839, as it adorns the full bodywork, reminiscing the iconic lines of 1960’s race car models. The name Time Fast II references the fact that it’s a 2-seater car, has two movements (one for time and one for the engine automate), and it is L’Epée 1839’s second car inspired clock. Time Fast II features two independent movements, both with their own power source. The first movement is in the cockpit and is responsible for keeping the time. Hours and minutes are displayed by rotating stainless steel disks on the air filters feeding the dual carburetor banks on top of the engine. The 8-day movement is

29

regulated by a visible 2.5 Hertz escapement in the ‘driver’s helmet’ and powered by a mainspring visible in the passenger’s ‘seat’.The second movement powers the engine automat.Turning the dashboard key starts the engine, triggering the pistons of the V8 to go up and down. This animation is completely independent of the time movement. A manual gear lever selects between winding the time movement, winding the engine automate or neutral. Winding is accomplished by selecting the appropriate gear and pulling the car backwards. The threespoke steering wheel is assembled just as the original steering wheels were, with a center rim and two outer rims held together by 12 rivets. The steering wheel is turned counterclockwise to set the time, while turning clockwise allows repositioning of the wheel to center.

EWELLERY 32

Diamonds as Jewellery

D

iamonds have been used in jewelry for millennia, but one of the earliest examples may be found in ancient India. Diamonds were found in the 4th century BC along the banks of the Golconda River in what is now the state of Andhra Pradesh. Diamonds were loved at the time not for their brilliant brilliance but for their mystical and spiritual characteristics. They were utilized as religious iconography, placed in sculptures' eyes to signify heavenly sight. Uncut diamonds were worn by India's governing elite as a sign of strength and invincibility, with the belief that the jewels contained protecting and healing properties. As the centuries passed, the perception of diamonds began to shift. They began to make inroads into the realm of jewelry. Skilled Indian diamond cutters created procedures for shaping these priceless

stones, allowing their sparkling brightness to shine through. Diamond cutting and polishing became a tightly kept family secret, passed down from generation to generation. Diamonds made their way into European royal jewelry collections during the Middle Ages. Because of its amazing hardness and blazing brightness, the diamond became a symbol of power and prosperity. Royals and nobility began to commission complex jewelry items with these enthralling jewels. The Koh-i-Noor diamond, one of the most renowned in history, is thought to have been unearthed in India and eventually became part of the British Crown Jewels. Its trip mirrored diamonds' shifting function, from their beginnings as spiritual objects to their current standing as emblems of imperial force and pride. The use of diamonds in jewelry has evolved over time, with diamonds today expressing love and loyalty. The diamond engagement ring has become a beloved symbol of everlasting love, uniting the ancient traditions of India with the modern world. Diamonds have retained a unique and enduring fascination throughout history, from their mystical origins to their significance in contemporary romance.

enowned for the excellence of its Haute Joaillerie creations and the choice of its rare stones, Chopard unveils a bewitching opal and tanzanite necklace and a ring adorned with a spectacular 88.88-carat Royal Blue sapphire. Crafted in Fairmined-certified ethical gold, echoing the Maison’s Journey to Sustain able Luxury, these masterpieces stem from the brilliant hands and minds of the finest jewellery artisans plying their craft under

the guidance of Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director, Caroline Scheufele.

SOVEREIGN OPAL

A work of patience and expertise, this necklace comprises three rows of briolette-cut tanzanites, while its centre features an ornament set with two respectively 22.10-carat and 7.99-carat opals enhanced by diamonds. Opulent, mysterious and flamboyant, opals have fascinated jewellers since

37

time immemorial, with their shades of green and blue that change with the light and, it is said, with the wearer’s mood. The fact that history has attributed magical virtues to opals is because their changeable nature gives them a life of their own. Today, it brilliantly combines with the purplish-blue reflections of tanzanites in this masterpiece that required over 110 hours of meticulous work by the various jewellers in the Chopard ateliers.

ore than a hundred brown brilliants, set in the gleaming rose gold of the ring, reflect the golden glow of the candles in small spots of light while the smoky quartz captures the light, turning it into a charming glimmer on the wearer’s hand. Elegant. Mysterious. High-grade. The La Piazza collection by Al Coro, inspired by the shape of the cobblestones of Italian piazzas, has a variety of styles and colors. On the one hand decorated with colorful gemstones, it also presents itself in mysterious shades of beige and brown. Al Coro sets precious stones such as chalcedony or green agate as well as diamonds in brilliant cut in fine 18 carat rose gold. The particularly high-grade precious items of the new line are decorated with stylishly curved parts made of smoky quartz with glittering cushions of brown brilliants between them. In this design, Al Coro creates a ring with matching necklace pendant and earrings where the high-grade “cobblestones” can be found in. Finest rose gold joins brilliants and smoky quartz to form a homage to the wonderful piazzas of Italy. This elegant combination is shown to its full advantage in slenderly shaped earrings and a matching necklace of the La Piazza collection: Convexly shaped cushions made of 18 k rose gold, covered with brown brilliants reach perfection in drop-shaped smoky quartz that gives these precious items a touch of flamboyance as a playful element. A white brilliant acts as a linking element. This creates an extraordinary piece of jewelry that nestles up to its wearer, softly standing out against her skin tone – a mystic symbiosis.

Watches

First Watch

T

he first watch was invented by Peter Henlein, a German locksmith and clockmaker from Nuremberg. Around 1505, Henlein invented a compact, portable timekeeping device that foreshadowed the contemporary wristwatch. Henlein's creation, known as the “Nuremberg Egg,” was roughly the size of an egg. It was cylindrical in form and ran on a tiny spring-driven mechanism. This advancement signified a change from the era's bigger and less portable timekeeping equipment, such as sundials and tower clocks. The Nuremberg Egg was an early pocket watch that could be worn around the neck or carried in a bag. It had an hour hand and occasionally an alarm function. Although the timekeeping was not as precise as that of current watches, it represented a significant step forward in the miniaturization of clock technology. These early clocks were a status symbol among the European nobility and gained popularity gradually. Watchmakers developed the design and increased accuracy over time, resulting in the development of increasingly complex pocket watches in the centuries that followed. Henlein's discovery ushered in portable timekeeping, a watershed moment in the history of horology. His pioneering work paved the way for the creation of wristwatches and the accurate, compact timekeeping gadgets on which we now rely.

ith the arrival of autumn, green leaves turn flame coloured. This is Nature’s way: She comes to life in spring, blooms in summer, softens in autumn and withers in winter. The cycle and the pattern of the seasons has always been a topic of great interest to Michel Parmigiani. Fascinated by the perfection and life of all forms of roses, Michel Parmigiani focused on this flower to develop the “Roses Carrées” motif which now features on a number of creations such as La Rose Carrée pocket watch released in 2022, which is an exceptional work of art. In 2023, Parmigiani Fleurier worked on a major collection of five unique pieces representing the pinnacle of complicated Haute Horlogerie and the height of the Manufacture’s expertise. These five exceptional timepieces were paired with a minute repeater movement exquisitely decorated with engraving and enamelling. This was an exceptional feat of craftsmanship produced by men and women with “golden hands”, all of whom have been approved by Michel Parmigiani, and who have become, for him, truly an extended family. These creations were all produced to the superior standards for which Parmigiani Fleurier is renowned and the pieces also comply with the strictest standards available on the

market both in terms of the movement and the métiers d’art.

ENAMEL

The enamel was hand-polished to create a contrast between the volume and pattern, while the engraving produced by hand ensured that the Rose Carrée motif aligned with the case middle, the bezel and the case- back of the watch. This creates a striking play of light giving the visual effect of diamonds. The dial is hand- engraved to obtain a grained surface; four layers of enamel are then applied to it, with six layers applied to the cover. The surfaces are also hand-polished. Each of these unique pieces is a major feat: combining the enamelled case-back and the engraving of the “La Rose Carrée” motif so dear to Michel Parmigiani, to guarantee the chime system makes a harmonious sound from inside the water-resistant case.

One year later, a new door has been opened with the arrival of the brand’s first metal bracelet. harles Frederick Worth, an English-born designer who started his haute couture firm in Paris during the mid- nineteenth century, is credited with creating the first modern fashion show. Worth's creative approach to displaying his works laid the groundwork for the modern fashion business. Worth deviated from the customary approach of showcasing garments on mannequins or drawings by presenting a variety of his creations on live models in 1858. He planned a private showing for a small group of clients and fashionistas. This event, conducted in his luxurious salon, established what we now call a fashion show. Worth's choice to employ live models was revolutionary. It allowed customers to see how the clothing flowed and draped on actual people, making the experience more immersive and participatory. Worth's fashion displays immediately became famous, and they became regular occurrences. The word of these one-of-a-kind exhibits spread, attracting an ever-expanding audience. Other designers and fashion companies began to adopt the idea of presenting seasonal collections systematically and coordinately. Worth's innovation not only transformed how clothes were shown but also raised the prominence of fashion designers. He was the first designer to sign his designs, a tradition that is still used today, and he is widely regarded as the world's first acknowledged fashion designer. The fashion show gradually evolved into big, opulent spectacles that created trends and drew audiences worldwide, becoming a key aspect of the fashion business. Worth's trailblazing notion, conceived in his private Paris salon, transformed the fashion industry, influencing how we celebrate elegance and couture to this day.

nspired by what he calls his “shape supermarket” or “cultural pudding”, John Armleder borrows from an eclectic mix of references, a blend of everything that existed and that exists. Picking up influences from different eras, artists or mouvements, the artist does not have any hierarchy. He reinvents what he borrows, takes it out of context and from there, creates a different story. For his two collaborations with J.Hopenstand, the Swiss artist has chosen among his inspirational forms. This is where his message lies, in a world where today everything already exists, it is inevitable to reinvent what we know and build new narratives

around it. Fascinated by the teachings of John Cage and Erik Satie, John Armleder was influenced by various movements during his career, such as Neo-Dada, abstract expressionism and minimalism. Sometimes Armleder’s art does not seem to be his own as can be seen in his exhibitions that liberally incorporate others’ works. His art makes sure that there is enough room to evolve, thus creating a singular mode of participation that Armleder has been developing over the years.

first use of paRfums P

erfumes have a long history, dating back thousands of years to the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt. The use of perfumes may be traced back to these early communities, where smells were an important part of their culture and ceremonies. The Sumerians made the first known fragrances in ancient Mesopotamia, dating back to 2000 BC.These early smells, which were generated from natural things such as flowers, herbs, and spices, were frequently employed in religious rites. According to the Sumerians, scents might connect them to the divine and enhance their spiritual experiences. Meanwhile, perfumes had both cultural and practical value in ancient Egypt. The Egyptians perfected the art of extracting perfumes from plants and resins. They utilized scents not just for religious ceremonies but also in everyday life. Fragrances were seen as a social status signal, and they were frequently employed in personal grooming as well as mummification. “Kyphi,” a complex combination of different components including myrrh, honey, and wine, was one of the most famous ancient Egyptian fragrances. Perfumes were kept in exquisite vessels and offered to the gods. Perfumes were also connected with rites, luxury, and social prestige in other ancient civilizations, such as Greece and Rome, as trade routes grew. The art of perfumery evolved over the ages, finally reaching the pinnacle of refinement in European courts during the Renaissance. With the foundation of perfumeries and the development of precise mixing procedures, the manufacture and usage of fragrances evolved into a complicated skill. Today, fragrances are still an essential component of human culture, valued for their capacity to elicit emotions, improve personal hygiene, and act as a form of self-expression. The ancient traditions of scent generation have left a lasting legacy, influencing how we feel and appreciate perfumes today.

KNOW?

alpeor switzerland ALEXANDRE FLUECKIGER: FOR THE LOVE OF PLANTS AND BOTANY

Since ancient times, plants have been used to relieve and treat all sorts of ailments. Now, more than ever, they continue to be a source of inspiration, and we still have much to learn from them. As we try to find ways to cope with the stresses of urban living, pollution and climate change, plants provide us with unique opportunities. Today, as in the past, they are the solution of choice to give the body the substances it needs and to maintain its vital balance, naturally…

I

have always loved nature, and this love of nature is part of my heritage. In the 1950’s, my grandmother and aunt were already developing some of the first plant-based elixirs. Were it not for this background, I would probably never have had the idea – or the desire – to create Alpeor in 2004. I wanted it to be a sustainable beauty brand, using 100 percent botanical active ingredients. By studying and observing Swiss alpine plants, and learning about their powerful properties, the way forward became clear. I would draw inspiration from the intelligence of nature and inject this intelligence into our skincare formulas. To do this, I work with a team of enthusiastic scientists, whom I like to call my “researchers of youth for the skin.” Their work focuses on three disciplines: phytotherapy, phytochemistry and dermatology. We monitor and control every step of the process, from research to extracting active plant substances, and we do so with complete transparency and the highest scientific rigor. This allows us to guarantee maximum safety and visible results for the skin. Welcome to the secret, confidential world of Alpeor – a magical world that revolves around the unexpected and infinite power of alpine plants, and the effectiveness of biotechnology.

any of us in our fast-paced, hyper- connected society are always racing against the clock, multitasking, and drowning in a never-ending flood of alerts. In the midst of this upheaval, the notion of “slow living” has developed as a much-needed antidote to our frantic existence.

through them, sipping your coffee calmly, and making time for contemplation and personal growth.

Slow living is all about simplifying and relishing life's small pleasures. It urges us to take a moment to reflect, take a step back, and enjoy the environment around us. The beauty of slow living is its versatility; it can be incorporated into any hectic lifestyle.

Learning to say no and create limits is vital for slow living. It entails refraining from overcommitting, which can lead to stress and burnout. Prioritize your time and energy instead on activities and relationships that offer you joy and contentment.

The path to slow living frequently begins with reevaluating priorities. This may entail clearing up your physical and mental space, getting rid of the useless, and focusing on what genuinely counts. It entails savoring your meals rather than rushing

In today's fast-paced world, technology frequently drives our lives. Slow living may include unplugging from devices and immerse oneself in the real world. It may be going for leisurely walks in the park, having face-to-face chats, or simply savoring the feel of a real book in your hands.

The art of slow living is not about fleeing the contemporary world but rather about finding a balance that works for you. It encourages you to cherish every moment, to appreciate life's simplicity, and to be totally present in whatever you do. By doing so, you may reclaim a sense of serenity and happiness in the middle of life's tumult. So, in our frantic world, take a minute to halt, breathe, and embrace the art of slow living.Your health will appreciate it.

A complex and multiform lexicon in which the rigor of the forms varies, and these also impress with their adaptability. Elegant and articulated volumes are composed to bring to life a living landscape that is told in three variants. These are able to respond to different tastes and just as many ways of experiencing domestic and international hospitality. Dylan looks particularly airy and modern in the version with a raised base that floats 13.5 cm above the floor on narrow extruded aluminum slats in bronze or pewter colors. It suits a more contemporary style but at the same time pays great attention

to couturier details. A project that strikes a perfect balance between the essentiality of the design and the density of the details, combining a light aesthetic with quality comfort. The seat and back cushions are the thread that connects the three different types. They are accented by soft couture-inspired stitching that makes this sofa system a timeless classic, albeit with an unusual and modern modularity and combinability. However, the strict shapes of the modular sofa system Dylan go beyond the seams of the cushions and become volumes in which the geometries become curved and enveloping, thanks to the soft curves of the back and armrest that create a satisfying feeling of coziness.

KRIGLER PRESENTS

Opus Bronze – SIERRA VISTA 2142

B

en Krigler, who heads the iconic perfume house KRIGLER in the 5th generation, originally created the fragrance “Sierra Vista 2142” only for himself – but he was asked about it so many times that he eventually introduced it into the collection. That was in 2014, and the distinctive fragrance has long since become one of the house’s bestsellers. Hence it was about time to dedicate a scented candle to it:“Opus Bronze – Sierra Vista 2142”. It smells boldly of sandalwood, bergamot, jasmine, lavender, cedarwood, amber and tonka bean. What makes the fragrance so exciting is the powerful interplay of fresh and spicy notes. It was inspired by the contrasts of Arizona’s nature, where the rugged Grand Canyon meets the winding Colorado River, and fiery red sand meets lush green pine forests ...

The result is charismatically masculine and fills the room with a sexy aura. Particularly irresistible: the melted wax can be used as a warm, fragrant massage oil – thanks to the fact that the candle is made of pure organic soy wax (La Cire KRIGLER) with a perfume content of 17 percent. The glass in a luxurious bronze hue, like all glasses of the Opus collection, is made by the famous glassblowing manufacture Biot in the South of France. Traditionally mouthblown and with its characteristic air bubbles trapped in the glass, each one is truly unique. And for everyone wanting more, KRIGLER also offers larger, made-to-order candles, for which you can choose from an array of signature scents and glass colors.

Togo 1973 – Toile du Peintre

F

irst presented at the Salon des Arts Ménagers at the Palais de la Défense, Paris in 1973 (28th February – 11th March), its crumpled, ‘newborn’ appearance and Shar-Pei wrinkles earned it more than a few doubtful looks from professionals and public alike. The organisers of the fair, however, were sufficiently inspired to award Michel Ducaroy the René-Gabriel prize (awarded two years later to Pierre Paulin), which recognized “innovative and democratic furniture ”, that is, pieces which offered a good price - to - quality ratio.

For its 50th anniversary, Togo is dressing up in two limited-edition coverings that will give personality to our interior: Atom by Kvadrat and La Toile du Peintre by Pierre Frey. With La Toile du Peintre by Pierre Frey, Togo is adorned with a contemporary tapestry with a large graphic pattern and vibrant colours that reinterprets a work by painter Heather Chontos. Its scale, its joyful and free stroke make this fabric an ode to artistic expression that will energise interiors.

The most Expensive

Wine on Earth

W

ine has long maintained a unique place in the hearts of collectors and aficionados, with certain bottles fetching exorbitant sums. But when it comes to the most costly wine on the planet, one name stands out above all others: Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC). DRC is a well-known winery in the Burgundy area of France, producing some of the world’s best and rarest wines.Their Romanée- Conti vineyard, a great cru, is the crown treasure. This rare vineyard, which spans only 1.81 hectares, produces wines that are frequently regarded as the pinnacle of excellence. The scarcity, excellence, and devoted global demand drive the pricing of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wines. The most sought- after bottles from this estate may fetch exorbitant amounts at auction. A 1945 Romanée-Conti sold for more than $ 558,000 in 2018, making it the most expensive bottle of wine ever sold. It’s worth noting that the 1945 vintage is especially noteworthy because it was created during World War II, lending historical weight to its attraction. DRC wines are renowned for their exotic smells, rich flavors, and long-term age potential. Because of their restricted manufacturing, only a select few are able to enjoy their distinct essence. These exorbitant prices have established DRC’s position as the pinnacle of luxury in the wine market. Wine aficionados, collectors, and investors anxiously anticipate the release of each new vintage in the hopes of acquiring one of these extraordinary bottles. However, while DRC wines are the most expensive wines on the planet, they are more than simply a status symbol. They reflect the pinnacle of winemaking skill, decades of history, and the eternal charm of a superb wine that transcends its price tag. For those who are fortunate enough to enjoy a glass of Romanée- Conti, it is more than just a treat; it is an experience that epitomizes the pinnacle of vinicultural perfection.

or this new vintage of La Grande Dame, master of color Paola Paronetto meets the expression of Veuve Clicquot's excellence with an exclusive collaboration. La Grande Dame 2015 is an exceptional sunny vintage for a wine full of tension and elegance. It reveals this great wine’s verticality thanks to the Pinot Noirs harvested from our historical Crus.As Madame Clicquot used to say 200 years ago, “Our black grapes give the finest white wines” an affirmation that still rings true. Beloved for its versatility, the Pinot Noir grape expresses itself differently according to its growing conditions and the year in which it is harvested. As a fine blend of Veuve Clicquot’s historical Grands Crus, La Grande Dame is the pinnacle of the Maison’s oenological prowess, with an immense ageing potential. This solar vintage, while elegant and precise, offers fresh minerality with light floral notes of jasmine and acacia on the nose, which evolve into fruity notes of pear and clementine. As for the first sip, it envelops the palate with a delightfully subtle, silky texture.

n 1833, Louis Roederer inherited the house with a vision: to expand his estate and control the entire winemaking process. Instead of buying grapes, he passionately focused on the vineyards, understanding each plot's character and selecting only the finest. He believed a great wine's personality is primarily shaped by the soil. Since then, Champagne Louis Roederer has only been using the grapes from their own vineyards to create the Louis Roederer Vintage Champagnes.Today, the independent and still family-owned Maison Louis Roederer is led in seventh generation by Mister Frédéric Rouzaud, President and General Manager of the Roederer Collection. Champagne Louis Roederer emphasizes meticulous soil care, biodiversity protection, and increasingly important biodynamics. Currently, 115 out of 240 hectares are certified organic.

Their vineyards span Champagne's crucial regions: the Montagne de Reims, Valle de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs. Louis Roederer embraces the challenges of sustainable viticulture and is living in a respectful partnership hand in hand with nature to convey terroir's advantages. Essentially made from Pinot Noir grapes in Cumières, the Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Vintage 2016 is the result of a long and gentle infusion that allows Louis Roederer to extract the juicy and ripe side of the berries while preserving their immense salty freshness. The Rosé Vintage is intense, fresh and crisp with pronounced notes of harmoniously integrated red berry acidity. The first phone made

A

lexander Graham Bell, a Scottish-born inventor and scientist, is credited with inventing the telephone. On March 10, 1876, Bell’s work on the telephone culminated in the legendary moment when he made the first successful telephone call in history. Bell’s road to inventing the telephone began when he relocated to Boston and founded a deaf school. His mother and wife, both of whom were deaf, prompted him to investigate methods of transferring sound. Elisha Gray and Antonio Meucci’s study, who had also been working with communications equipment, significantly affected his work. Bell was at his laboratory in Boston on that fateful day in 1876 while his helper, Thomas Watson, was in another room. Bell had been developing a gadget that could electrically transfer sound across a wire. In a fit of rage, he unintentionally spilled a chemical on himself and knocked over an experimental transmitter. Watson was surprised when he heard Bell’s voice from the other room say, “Mr. Watson, come here; I want to see you.” The telephone was born as a result of this unanticipated accomplishment. Bell’s innovation revolutionized communication by allowing voice and speech to be transmitted across large distances. Bell got the first telephone patent in the United States, and he and Watson worked to improve the invention. Bell founded the Bell Telephone Company in 1877, which ultimately became the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T), a telecommunications behemoth. The telephone had a dramatic influence, linking people across long distances and transforming how the world communicated. The innovation of Alexander Graham Bell laid the groundwork for the contemporary telecommunications revolution, and his first historic words uttered over the telephone, “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you,” heralded a new era in human interaction.

T

he Ferronato family history begins in 1906 in Lugano, when Giovanni Ferronato founded a polishing tools company. Over the years, it expanded globally and gained a cutting-edge expertise in the field of industrial technologies, under the leadership of Sandro Ferronato. Indeed, in its Swiss laboratories in the canton of Fribourg, the family-owned company KGS Ferronato Group has developed MetaFab®, a patented metallized fabric which has been supplied and trusted by industry leaders for over three decades. This fabric has the power to block all electromagnetic frequencies, therefore protecting against any digital incursion. Meanwhile, the risks associated with our hyperconnected lifestyle are intensifying, jeopardizing the security of personal data and raising questions about the impact of radiation emitted by electronic devices.

FERRONATO, A WORLDWIDE INNOVATION

In this context, the group decided to incorporate the MetaFab® shielding fabric into accessories such as bags and sleeves, launching the FERRONATO range in 2022. With their MetaFab® metallized fabric, FERRONATO accessories block all electromagnetic frequencies: “The fact that we can be easily tracked through the geo localisation of our devices, be heard through the activation of its microphones, and even be seen through the cameras, led us to take the decision to provide peace of mind to users”, explains Alessia Ferronato, the CEO of the brand representing the fourth generation.

THE UTMOST CONFIDENTIALITY

The range includes cardholders, wallets, clutches, handbags, and protective covers. Smartphones, tablets, laptops, car keys, and bank cards are thus completely protected from potential data theft. Thanks to the different compartments, the user is free to use the technology or not: “Our accessories provide an effective and quick solution to disconnect from the digital world during specific moments, such as a confidential conversation or when one wants to disconnect from electromagnetic waves during the night. The device also easily slides into another compartment if one wants to remain connected,” continues Alessia Ferronato.

LATEST INNOVATION:THE ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE-BLOCKING PHONE CASES

In November, the company launches an phone case that reduces smartphone radiation by up to 95 percent, thus protecting users from emitted radiation while keeping the device accessible. Combining Swiss technology with the nobility of Italian leather, all components are crafted in the northern regions of Italy, renowned for their expertise in leather craftsmanship. After its first store opening in Lausanne, FERRONATO plans to open others points of sale in Switzerland and abroad, as well as collaborate with major distributors.

World’s

oldest operating Bank

T

he Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, sometimes known simply as the Monte dei Paschi, is the world’s oldest operational bank. It was founded in 1472 in the lovely Tuscan city of Siena, Italy, and has a long and illustrious history spanning five centuries. During the Renaissance period, Monte dei Paschi was created as a benevolent organization committed to aiding the city’s destitute and needy. It began by making modest loans to people in financial hardship, basically acting as a rudimentary version of a bank. The institution evolved and standardized its financial operations over time. It established the world’s first real public bank in

1624, issuing deposit certificates that served as early types of banknotes. Its operations had extended by the nineteenth century to encompass standard banking services such as lending, money exchange, and wealth management. The long history of Monte dei Paschi demonstrates the bank’s capacity to adapt and innovate. It has survived five centuries of financial challenges and upheavals, including the volatility of two World Wars and the modernization of the global banking industry. Despite financial troubles in recent years, the bank’s historical significance as the world’s first bank remains intact. It acts as a reminder of financial institutions’ lasting influence and critical role in promoting economic growth and stability. In an ever-changing financial landscape, the Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena is a lasting reminder of banking’s deep historical origins and its continuous relevance in developing modern economies.

Bank julius bär PRESENTS

A history of 125 years of expert financial advice

T

he story of a family business that transformed into a public company and eventually into the international reference in private banking. Julius Bär, the founder and namesake of the group, recognized the importance of Zurich as an international trade center in the 1890s and established the business on the renowned Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich. What started as a small exchange office quickly expanded into wealth management, securities, and foreign exchange trading – the core business activities of the Julius Bär Group that remain crucial to this day. RAPID BUSINESS EXPANSION In the wake of strong economic growth and technological progress after World War II, the company – then a partnership consisting of an increasing number of members of the Bär family – began to expand internationally (1940: New York, 1968: London). This laid the foundation for today’s global business. To finance this rapid growth, Julius Bär went public in 1980, becoming the first Swiss private bank to do so. ANOTHER BOOST IN GROWTH However, even after the IPO, the majority of voting rights remained with the Bär family pool, preserving control of the group. This changed only in early 2005 with the introduction of the “one share, one vote” principle. With the expanded financial flexibility, three private banks and a specialized asset manager were acquired in the same year, collectively larger than Julius Bär itself. This significantly enlarged corporate base was used to quickly expand into international, particularly Asian, growth markets, leading to robust growth in the following years.

LOGICAL REFOCUSING The business environment underwent a fundamental change following the credit crisis of 2008.This prompted Julius Bär to take a comparatively unconventional step: in early October 2009, asset management was separated from private banking, providing both business areas with additional strategic flexibility for this new phase. The private banking business became independent as Julius Bär Group AG and began systematically expanding its international presence and specialized offerings through acquisitions and strategic collaborations globally. ANOTHER QUANTUM LEAP In August 2012, Julius Bär initiated the next growth phase with the acquisition of Merrill Lynch’s International Wealth Management business outside the USA.The acquisition presented a rare opportunity to significantly expand the group’s presence in established markets, some new markets, and growth regions. Julius Bär is now present in more than 25 countries and around 50 locations worldwide. This growth will enable the group to strengthen its leadership position in an extremely competitive industry, offer its customers a unique range of products and services, and tackle future challenges from a position of strength – as the international reference in private banking.
