Year 1 Class Information

Reading Books are changed regularly. Our aim is to change them three times a week if there is evidence of completion in their reading record book. It is your child’s responsibility to place it in the red reading box so that it can be changed. Please help your child to practise their reading book every night (just a few pages or a short story) and sign and date the reading record book, showing the page reached or book finished. There is room to write a comment about your child’s reading (using the reading VIPERS bookmark will offer a structure support your child and will help to inform comments). In addition to this children will consolidate their early reading skills through our phonics sessions. Some children may require further support at this stage and will participate in a programme of learning known as “Precision Teach”. This is a daily session held on a one to one to help with the rapid recall of words/letters/numbers. Parents can help at home by practising these as well. Children in Year One will participate in a group guided reading session reading age appropriate texts in class which remain in school. Library books need to be returned weekly on a Thursday. The children will also have the opportunity to change their library book during our sessions held within the day. PE lessons are held on Tuesday and Wednesday.
