Monkton CEP School – “In God’s Eyes, Everyone is Special” Term 6 Newsletter 17 June 2021

Dear Parent/Carers and Governors, Following the Governments briefing on Monday 14 June, I am writing to give you information on events taking place at school and how they are affected by the “new” current restrictions:
Monkton Nature Reserve A big thank you goes to Tom and Clive and their volunteers at the Monkton Nature Reserve. By working closely together we have been able to offer all of the children a school trip this year. A big shout out to all of our pupils for their sensible behaviour and great walking! We are also very grateful to the parent/carer volunteers who have given up their time to accompany the children, enabling us to complete the walk to the Reserve safely. The trips have been very successful, especially the Bird of Prey Demonstrations which have been funded by the PTA.
Science Week - 21 - 25 June 2021 Mr. Pasola will be coordinating the whole school Science Week. The children will have opportunities to explore scientific experiments and engage in some fun activities to develop their scientific knowledge. Do look out for photos uploaded to Facebook.
Bookfair Our annual Book Fair takes place this year between Monday 28 June and Thursday 1 July. In 2019 we raised £406 in commission which has been used to purchase books for each class. Children will visit the bookfair in pods, there will be no afterschool sales this year, however we will send details of how you can order from home and still benefit the school libraries. Details will be sent out separately to you regarding ordering books etc.
Bikeability Year 6 will be taking part in Bikeability Training between 2830 June. Each group will take their entire training in one day ensuring that bikes do not have to stay on the premises overnight. Mrs Webb will be sending our final details to those taking part.
Year 5 Parents/Carers Kent Test Registration This is just a reminder to Year 5 parent/carers that the online registration deadline is the 1 July 2021. Please remember to email me: kwilson@monkton.kent.sch.uk your confirmation email so that I have a record of which children are taking the test. If you require any further help, advice or information, please contact your child’s class teacher Mr. Pasola.
Transition- Year 6 – 1 July 2021- cancelled Sports Day - Friday 25 June 2021 Sports day will go ahead on Friday 25 June, with some specific Covid-19 Guidelines in place: •
Children will sit in their Class Pods supervised by their Class Staff • Team Theme will join us on the day to help assist us in running the afternoon • A Maximum of 1 parent/carer may attend per family, but you must adhere to current social distancing requirements. You may gather in seated groups of no more than 30 throughout the afternoon and socially distanced wherever possible. Masks must be worn at all times Please remember to bring your own chairs/blankets to sit on. Multiple groups of 30 are permitted. • Children will not be permitted or encouraged to join their parent/carers at any time during the Sports Day. They must remain with their class at all times until the Sports finish and they are dismissed by their teacher. • Remember to send your child into school with their PE Kit, water bottle and sunhat on this day. Team Colour Tabards are supplied by us. • At the end of the day please remain on the field until we call you to collect your child from the playground, we will use staggered pick up times • Sadly, there will be no PTA Strawberry Fair following this event. • If it rains on the 25 June, Sport Day will be postponed and carried forward to the following Friday 2 July 2021. We will send you a reminder of these instructions next week.
We know that you have been contacted by your child’s secondary schools to arrange transition dates. However, we were informed yesterday by our Secondary colleagues that the onsite Transition days for Year 6 pupils in July have now been cancelled. Please keep an eye out in your emails for an update on arrangements for the summer and into September.
Whole School Transition Unfortunately, the Government Guidelines have made it clear that a whole transition morning at this school is now not feasible as we are not able to maintain the integrity of class pods/consistent groups.
Reports Children’s reports will be sent out electronically on 2 July 2021. If you have any problems with receiving your child’s report electronically, please contact their class teacher. Should you have any concerns regarding your child or wish to discuss their report, please contact your child’s class teacher. Sadly, we will not be holding an onsite Open Afternoon.
Rocksteady Once again Rocksteady will be filming the end or term Rocksteady Concert for parent/carers. Each Rocksteady group will perform to their own class. Rocksteady will contact parent/carers in the normal way regarding obtaining a copy of their child’s performance.
Protocols Please remember the following: • • • •
Only 1 person should attend the school to drop off or collect per family Please keep to the staggered pod timings Always wear a mask in the school grounds Remember to keep to the social distancing rules
