Dear Parents/carers,
In 2014, we made the decision to have the children enter school though the main entrances after the infant entrance was completed. For over 6 years this worked very well ensuring all the children arrived in school with their mark in the register and lunch choice completed on time, with parents being assured they were in school and safe. During and after the pandemic to ensure infection control legislation was adhered to, the decision was made to open all of the gates. As this legislation is no longer in place and we have moved back to the typical way of school life, SLT made the decision to consult parents and staff to see if the move back to original procedures would be more suitable for our children.
SLT sent out a survey to gather parent’s thoughts, thank you to everyone who completed the form, there was a huge response and a number of questions raised and comments made. The results represent that 46% of parents/carers agree to the return of original procedures, 26% were unsure and 28% disagreed.
Questions:
Q1, Would it not become very busy in front of the bike shed and infant entrance?
A1, When the gate was closed before the pandemic there wasn’t a problem as the children arrive in a wider time period in the mornings 8.00am to 9.00am.
Q2, Would the door at the main office just be open for all children to walk straight in?
A2, Yes, with staff present, at both the outside door and inner door, covered by Admin and Pastoral staff until 9.00am when the doors close to allow monitoring of children arriving later.
New Procedure
Following the consultation SLT have made the decision to keep the gates closed.
From Monday 19th June 2023, the gates including the KS2 gate will be kept closed at the beginning of the school day to increase safety and security for the children. This will remain under review throughout the rest of the term and any feedback from parents is welcome.
Breakfast Club
There will be no change to breakfast club times 8.00am until 8.35am – accessed through the infant entrance.
Infants
Infant children are to be dropped off at school from 8.40am onwards at the Infant entrance door. For Health & Safety reasons, we would advise you to avoid the road and use the pedestrian pathway around the rear of the bike shed to gain access to the infant entrance.
There will a member of staff based on the Infant door from 8.40 to 9.05am. This member of staff will be happy to pass on any messages to your child’s class teacher. Any child arriving to school after 9.05am will have to go up to the main school office to be registered. Parents/carers taking their child out during the school day must ensure they sign their child out at the school office.

Juniors
From 8.40am onwards, all junior children should enter school through the main school office entrance and go straight into class for pre-register tasks. Class registration will continue to be at 8.55am. The school office staff will pass on any messages from parents for the class teacher as required.
Please note there will be no change to the procedures at the end of the school day for all children.
Thank you very much for your patience and cooperation
