INAUGURAL PROGRAM

OFFICIAL SPONSOR OF MOUNTAINEER ATHLETICS

WELCOME TO A NEW ERA OF SCHREINER FOOTBALL. This year marks an important moment for our students, alumni, families and the greater Hill Country community. Football gives us another reason to gather, celebrate student achievement and strengthen the relationships that make Schreiner distinctive. We are grateful to the coaches, staff, founding supporters and community partners who helped make this season possible. We especially thank Kerrville ISD for welcoming the Mountaineers to Antler Stadium and the fans joining us throughout this historic season. Our program is being built around the values expected of every Mountaineer: commitment, resilience, personal growth and service to others. On the field, our student-athletes will compete with purpose. In the classroom and community, they will represent Schreiner with pride.

BUILT IN 2025, READY FOR 2026. Schreiner football returned to the field in 2025 with a developmental season designed to prepare the program for varsity competition. Under head coach Keith Allen, the Mountaineers established their team culture, implemented new offensive and defensive systems and gained valuable experience together. Following a joint practice with Trinity University, Schreiner played six road games and finished 5-1. The Mountaineers opened with five consecutive victories, including wins over the developmental teams from Mary Hardin- Baylor, Texas Lutheran and Howard Payne. They also recorded a 30-0 shutout against Texas Community Christian College. The experience, relationships and expectations established in 2025 created the foundation for Schreiner’s first full NCAA Division III varsity season in 2026.

A FOOTBALL LEGACY RENEWED Football has a proud history at Schreiner dating to the Schreiner Institute era. Although the original program concluded in the mid-1950s, the discipline, perseverance and school pride developed on the field remained part of the Schreiner tradition. After nearly seven decades, football returned with a developmental season in 2025, followed by full varsity competition in 2026. Today’s Mountaineers are carrying the tradition of Schreiner football forward into the future.

RAYMOND E. BERRY '51 Raymond Berry turned preparation, determination and precise route running into a Pro Football Hall of Fame career. After attending Schreiner Junior College, he transferred to SMU, where he served as team captain and earned All-Southwest Conference honors in 1954. Berry played 13 seasons with the Baltimore Colts from 1955 to 1967. He led the NFL in receiving three consecutive seasons, earned six Pro Bowl selections and retired as the league’s career leader with 631 receptions and 9,275 receiving yards. In the legendary 1958 NFL Championship Game, Berry recorded 12 catches for 178 yards and a touchdown, helping Baltimore defeat the New York Giants 23-17 in overtime. Berry later coached the New England Patriots from 1984 to 1989, leading the franchise to its first Super Bowl appearance. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1973 and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1974.

DR. CHARLES “CHARLEY” JOHNSON ’58 Dr. Charles “Charley” Johnson attended Schreiner Institute from 1956 to 1958. As Schreiner’s original football era came to a close, Johnson continued his career at New Mexico State University, where he became one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in school history. Johnson guided New Mexico State to consecutive Sun Bowl victories and remains the only player named Sun Bowl Most Valuable Player in backto-back years. His No. 33 was later retired by the university. He went on to play 15 professional seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Oilers and Denver Broncos. Johnson earned Pro Bowl honors in 1963 and finished his career with 24,410 passing yards and 170 touchdown passes. He was inducted into the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame in 1986. Johnson’s achievements extended well beyond the field. While playing professional football, he earned both a master’s degree and doctorate in chemical engineering. He later returned to New Mexico State as a professor, applying the same discipline and intellectual curiosity to education that had defined his football career. Schreiner recognizes Dr. Charles “Charley” Johnson ’58 in both its Athletic Hall of Honor and Distinguished Alumni ranks. His remarkable life united athletic excellence, academic achievement and service to others.

MEET THE HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

KEITH ALLEN Keith Allen enters his second season at Schreiner after guiding the Mountaineers through a 5-1 developmental campaign in 2025. His charge is larger than installing schemes or preparing for Saturdays. It is building a program in which competitive football, academic progress and personal growth reinforce one another. A Tulsa native, Allen earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Liberal Arts from Texas Christian University. His 30-year career includes 18 years in collegiate coaching and 12 years as a head coach. Allen began his coaching career at Oklahoma before serving at Northeast Louisiana, TCU, Quincy, San Jose State and Southwest Baptist. At Southwest Baptist, he became the winningest coach in program history and led three consecutive winning seasons from 2009 through 2011.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY:

Helping young men reach their goals and fulfill their potential is what coaching is all about.

”

30 YEARS COACHING 18 COLLEGIATE YEARS 12 YEARS AS HEAD COACH 2 UNIVERSITY DEGREES 5-1 2025 DEVELOPMENTAL RECORD FROM FLORIDA TO THE HILL COUNTRY At The King’s Academy in Florida, Allen s teams won multiple conference championships and reached a state championship game. He was named the 2018-19 National Federation of State High School Associations Florida Football Coach of the Year. Immediately before Schreiner, Allen coordinated Klein High School's offense, where scoring rose from 23.6 to 41.5 points per game and total offense increased from 284 to 440 yards per game.

OUR LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY For Allen, “Tough People Win” describes daily behavior. Toughness means showing up prepared, accepting accountability and responding to difficulty with discipline. Those habits connect football performance with success in the classroom and service to others.

EDUCATOR FIRST Allen describes coaching as education. Football offers repeated lessons in teamwork, sacrifice, perseverance, failure and success. His role is to help student-athletes turn those experiences into habits that serve them throughout life.

ACADEMICS MATTER The program’s stated academic goal is graduation for every student-athlete. Class attendance, study support and steady progress toward a degree are treated as team responsibilities.

PLAY WITH PURPOSE On offense, Allen favors tempo, quick cadence and systems that are multiple without becoming needlessly complex. Defensively, the emphasis is stopping the run, creating pressure and forcing turnovers. Special teams are prepared as an aggressive third phase.

SERVE THE COMMUNITY Service is part of player development. The program’s community plan includes outreach that helps student-athletes practice citizenship, build relationships, and serve as positive role models.

A VISION FOR SCHREINER Together, those standards define the Mountaineer program Schreiner is building: competitive on the field, serious in the classroom and connected to Kerrville. The first full NCAA Division III season is the next step in a longer commitment to developing people and building a program that lasts.
