PANDEMIC

Don’t give up on your Yearbook! We understand the challenges of creating exciting Yearbook Content this school year due to the Pandemic. Students may have missed out on traditional school events this year, but that doesn’t mean that the 2020-2021 school year shouldn’t be memorialized and celebrated just the same! To help the Yearbook Coordinator build a memorable yearbook, we have created this useful Yearbook Resource Guide to offer creative ideas to fill pages as well as provide step by step instructions for how to coordinate parent participation and keep the process organized and effortless. The Yearbook Resource Guide will not only help create fun and interesting pages, but will also serve to capture the personal feelings and unique experiences of student life this school year. Don’t be discouraged by this year not being a typcial year. Everyone still wants a traditional printed yearbook to remember these unprecedented times. Parents and teachers are enthusiatic about contributing photos and content to build a specialized yearbook for 2020-2021. Let them know the page themes in advance so they can capture great photos over the next few months!

OUR MEMORY AD BUILDER The Ad Builder is a Great way to create page content while capturing the thoughts and TOGETHER AT feelings of the Students. While Ad space in the yearbook is typically purchased by parents, we recommend offering the Graduating Class a FREE 1/8 or ¼ page space where the Students can design/upload any content about their experience that stood out this year. Another idea is to offer free space to parents of Kindergarteners to highlight their child’s experience for their first year of school. Premade templates for ads are available within the software, providing parents and/or students with multiple options to build an attractive Ad easily.

IN CLASS LEARNING!

THEME PAGE IDEAS Yearbook pages need to be redefined to coincide with this unique year. The following ideas are creative themes to fill yearbook pages with highlights and real life experiences of the year at home, in school, or both. School at Home – These pages will showcase images of students working from home, at their desks, in their room, at the kitchen table, or wherever they set up their space to do school work each day. These can be posed pictures or candid shots of students working hard, participating on virtual meetings with their teacher, or even holding up handmade signage in the picture (ie. I love Science!)

at home virtual Learning

A Day at School – The classroom setting has likely changed this year, so these pages are for In-Classroom pictures to be displayed to show students working hard within their new environment, such as wearing masks and social distancing. You can also include photos of socialized activities that have been modified, such as eating lunch, gym class, and recess. School Spirit - Whether learning at home, in-school, or a hybrid of both, nothing brings everyone together as a community than school spirit pictures. Students can dress in school spirit wear, school colors, hold up handmade signs, or simply do “thumbs up” to show their pride for their school. These pages should include teachers too. Sports at Home – If school Sports have been cancelled, use this section to upload photos of students still practicing their sports at home, wearing their sports uniform or fan wear supporting the school teams, and excercising and staying in shape until sports resume.

THANK YOU TO

OUR HEROS!

Clubs and Band – These pages will show how clubs and band have maintained their activities together as a group, whether is was through in-person/socially distanced meetings or events, or virtual meetings. Or if the clubs or band shifted to more individual activities this year, photos should be of students practicing their instrument at home, or working on a club project at home. Heros in our Family – This is a very special section dedicated to family members of the school community who are First Responders or any member of the community who deserves recognition and appreciation for their service. These pictures will pay tribute to the great work of Nurses, Paramedics, Doctors, Police, Firefighters, Military, etc. Our New Pet – Pet adoption skyrocketed during the pandemic! With families spending more time at home, the pandemic proved to be the perfect time to introduce a new animal friend into the household and bring smiles to everyone.

Local Community Page - While it’s known that the pandemic has effected many people in negative ways, this is a good place to highlight the positive responses in the community, such as food drives, and other types of community outreach that have helped people in need during these hard times. My Favorite Mask Pictures - Masks have come in all types of themes for people to express themselves, make a statement, and have fun. This is a meant to be a fun page where students can showcase their favorite mask, a silly mask, and can even be used as a “Guess Who” page! The Staff in Masks – The idea for this page is for teachers to show themselves in their favorite or silliest masks. Teacher are encouraged to make this page a little extra fun and choose masks and dress in attire that would make the kids laugh. This can also be designed as a “Guess Who” page for extra fun. My New Hobby - Lots of students and families used the time home during the pandemic as an opportunity to try new things, or take on new projects and hobbies. This is a great page for students to showcase an experience or hobby that they enjoyed during the pandemic.

Holidays and Special Events – Since many holidays and special events are generally commemorated in the yearbook , these pages will still be dedicated towards how students celebrated special events at home. These can be collage photos of Halloween, Fall/Thanksgiving, Christmas/ Holidays, New Year’s Eve, etc. Drive-By Graduation or Celebrations - The new and inventive way to come together to celebrate achievements, while still maintaining a very safe distance. Some parents & students really go the extra mile decorating their vehicles, holding balloons and signage, and dressing their best! These make excellent photos for the yearbook!

Learning from Home!

Pandemic Fashion Show - This is a fun idea for students to show how they dress for school at home! How many students stay in their pajamas and wear fuzzy slippers while doing school work? My Favorite Pandemic Selfie - Kids love taking selfies and what better way to fill up a page in the yearbook than with photos they took of themselves! This is a fun collage page for teachers & staff to participate in too! Graduating Class Quotes - This is often found in High School yearbooks, but younger students can be given this opportunity as well. This is a great place to allow the Graduating class to voice their opinion, provide a positive message, or simply express their feelings about what they missed this year, or what they hope to experience as they move forward. In- Memoriam Section – This section can be dedicated to members of the school community that have been lost due to Covid-19 7

DON’T DELAY, GET STARTED

TODAY! Easy as 1 - 2 - 3! This year, the success of the yearbook will be based largely on parent & teacher participation. In order to keep the momentum strong in the coming months, we suggest following the recommendations below to gain traction, excitement, & continuous involvement!

1 2 3

Browse through the pre-designed templates in the software for ideas, or come up with your own unique page content, and make a plan for what you would like to include in the yearbook. Inform parents & teachers through social media and email blasts of what theme pages you plan to include in the yearbook so they can be sure to snap lots of great photos to upload throughout the rest of the year! We have an entire section of advertisements & reminders already created that you can use to send out to parents & teachers soliciting their participation for photos for the yearbook! Invite parents and teachers to upload photos via email and links with folders for each theme, and set up time frames for photo collection for each theme to keep the process organized and constantly flowing. ie. Jan 1-Jan. 15 - Upload photos for “Pajama Day” Jan 16-Jan 30 - Upload photos for “My Favorite Mask” Feb 1 - Feb 15 - Upload photos for “My New Pet” Upload photos for “Portraits” by Feb 28th (These are examples only, but it makes for a smoother process if you incorporate both consistent communication with deadline dates for photo uploads so that page designs can be completed easier, and in a timely manner.)

Use our pre-designed Email blasts to get the word out about photo collection dates and instructions for how to upload candids and take portraits at home!
