PUNKS PUNKS is a concept for an RPG style videogame. This concept booklet covers story, characters, weapons, and environments to act as a style guide for the game.

STORY The City of The Citadel houses the Latria, a beacon of divine intervention, as it sprung to fruition in the untouched and unlivable Valley of Death in the outlands of Milderoth, a valley devoid of nutrients in its soil or rivers, lakes, or sea access in its land. People flocked to the Latria in search of divine influence to ease their weary lives. The weaponry and power industry giant, Tesca, which discovered the Latria, flew pilgrims to the oasis with the promise of financial stability as a worker for the company amid economic crisis sweeping Milderoth and the businesses within it. Over generations, what resulted in this rush was a colossal city of tech giants that thrived in an unchecked free market, selling technological advancements to the furthest reaches of the country, and making The Citadel the highest-tech city to live in on the planet.

The city’s economic landscape, however, created a massive income schism between the people, with a short handful becoming the ultra-rich, living in lavish neighborhoods surrounding the Latria, and the majority of the population becoming overworked and underpaid employees who devoted their lives to their work in order to live in the oasis of The Citadel, with no other livable landscape thousands of miles in any direction. As generations lived and died in The Citadel, the socioeconomic schism steadily grew.

In the year 11,582, an attack on the Latria briefly made news. The Latria was unharmed, and the suspects were apprehended. This was the first ever recorded attack on the massive icon.

However, a handful of people witnessed the attack. Several families of children returning from a school trip were apprehended, interrogated, and made to sign paperwork confirming they would not speak of the incident. The children, all under the age of thirteen, were made to sign papers as well.

Life went on, albeit strangely for the witnessing children. Parents were home less often and were stressed about their work more, and friends all but stopped visiting.

Such a strange thing that seeing the west tube of the Latria mauled and expelling magic as if it were violently ill, as the metal cogs within the tube shrieked from the pressure change, would make life so peculiar for them.

CHARACTERS Each character in PUNKS is inspired by a prominent LGBTQ+ historical figure.

While each carries their own unique story, their design and mechanics call back heavily to the life and story of the person their design is inspired by.

BOTNET

Name: Unknown Age: ~32 Birthday: Unknown A mystery to friends and foes alike, BOTNET excels in deciphering both modern day and Old World code. He does not and has never existed on Tesca’s Civilian Record. His specialty is creating stealth malware to keep his enemies under his watchful eye. BOTNET is a self-made android.

LIBERATOR

Name: Elizabeth Michaels Age: 25 Birthday: January 28th Liberator witnessed the attack on the Latria as a child. In the aftermath of the attack, she became proficient in both magic and tech engineering to battle loneliness, as friends were not permitted on the property and her parents often worked long hours. She soon learned the magic her body stores resonates with plant life of the Old World, a trait unique to her alone.

AIRCUTTER

Name: Ian St. Paul Age: 26 Birthday: August 21st Born to a family living a short distance from the Latria, Aircutter always knew he would never follow his parent’s corporate path. At a young age, he witnessed the attack on the Latria before close residents were ordered to shelter. He never told his parents or friends what he had seen, as he had seen agents quickly sweep witnesses on the ground away.

LORDSENDER

Name: Zami Ben Age: 40 Birthday: February 14th Lordsender works and resides in the employee district of The Citadel. She teaches English and reading skills to children of all ages- two of whom witnessed the attack on the Latria. Their sudden expulsion from school led her to seek answers on their behalf.

COLETTE

Name: Unknown Age: ~22 Birthday: Unknown An escapee from a maximum security Tesca prison, Colette remains a mystery to both herself and others. She borrows techniques from her torturers when battling- something many in her crew don’t appreciate, though her and BOTNET get along great, as he designed the firewall implanted in her neck to block the bodily malware Tesca installed in her.

ENVIRONMENT & ILLUSTRATION PUNKS takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where humanity has begun to rebuild after the people of the Old World sucked the planet of its resources. The Citadel is a cyberpunk oasis surrounded by miles upon miles of unlivable terrain.

The people of The Citadel are surrounded by capitalist and corporate propoganda, often glowing on massive screens affixed to the many skyscrapers that graze the manmade ozone above the city. Larger than life architecture surrounded by techfilled slums, science fiction technology on every corner, and bright, saturated colors make The Citadel the tech-savvy wasteland where our story unfolds.

WEAPONS Each character in PUNKS has a class and battle techniques that reflect their background, style, and personality. A character’s weapon (or lack thereof) helps the player more intimately experience the character’s form and disposition.
