Joseph F. Thompson Artist Statement

My current artistic project is called “Her Day”. Through photographs I have documented a single day

routine of one person’s life: my wife. Her daily routine was photographed from early morning until the

time she went to bed. Individual moments in life are very interesting and they can tell a powerful story. All

lives have meaning, and they have a story to tell.

I take photographs to better understand the humanity of my subjects, to identify individuals’ hidden

qualities, to capture photographic images of their world, and to express myself. I have admired and learned

much from studying the great photographers of the past, such as Larry Sultan, Lee Friedlander, Stephen

Shore, Cindy Sherman, and Alberto Korda. Each of these photographers were able to capture life’s special

moments through their photography. I aspire to follow in their footsteps.
