Did everyone see who bought and picked up the $1.3 million dollar one-ofone 911 Classic Club Coupe at Porsche Parade? Jerry Seinfeld (a more than 30 year member of PCA) took possession of it at parade and then drove it back to Los Angeles. If you want to read more about it and see pics follow this link https://www.pca.org/news/comedian-jerry-seinfeld-takesdelivery-of-911-classic-club-coupe-at-porsche-parade or find in on the pca.org website. Wonder if any of the Schonesland members that attended were able to see it?!

What a month of June. We had a very successful Drive and Dine at Gilroy’s. It was a perfect weather night with a great turnout. And, the Cars and Coffee in Omaha, in coordination with the 75th anniversary of Porsche, was hugely successful as well. Thank you Woodhouse Porsche for the delightful open house. It is always exciting to see parking lots full of Porsches.

The next couple of months are packed with Schonesland events! Surely, you can find time to attend at least one!

APEX CONTINUED

We have our second annual Thursday Nights in Pella on Thursday, July 6th. Come display your car around the square and enjoy Pella! Pella has a little celebration every Thursday night with food and music in their park. It was a great event last year, and they loved having us!

July 13-16 is our annual Wisconsin Drive this year. This has been moved from the fall to July. Maybe this year we won’t have snow during the drive! Always a fun, exciting drive planned by Skip Hammerman and Garry Seemann. This year does have some down time in Galena built in with some more changes in restaurants and hotels from prior years.

Saturday, July 22, is our New Member Picnic at Bob Timmerman and Linda Laine’s house. Also good BBQ and conversation. Come get to know new and old members!

August 5th is a new drive to the Brucemore Estate in Cedar Rapids. This is just a day drive with lunch in Cedar Rapids and the tour of the Brucemore to follow.

And as usual we have our Cars & Coffee and Drive & Dine scheduled.

Please see www.schonesland.com/ calendar for more info and for links to register for the events!!

CARS & COFFEE OMAHA RECAP

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of Porsche, Cars & Coffee took a road trip this year. Schonesland ventured to Omaha for a joint Cars & Coffee with the Great Plains Region.

The Handle Bar Restaurant in Adel was our starting point. On the left: Trail Bosses Roy Johnson and Bill Frank give final instructions.

CARS & COFFEE OMAHA RECAP

Washed and polished Porsches await the drive to Omaha. Sadly, we were greeted with another rainy drive.

At our stop at the De Soto National Wildlife Refuge museum our own hot chick, Lyn Frank, does her best eagle impersonation.

Above our dinner at Bravo Omaha was a great success. Left: Too cheap to buy two desert coffees Spinner Editor Bryan Shiffler shares one with girlfriend Dorothy Struthers.

CARS & COFFEE OMAHA RECAP

Not just a normal Cars & Coffee, with two regions participating 67 cars lined up in the Berkshire Hathaway parking lot.

Breakfast was hosted by Woodhouse Bentley.

Creative hors d’oeuvres would be an understatement. The strawberries were amazing.

After serious tire kicking Woodhouse Porsche held an open house for Porsche owners and were hoping for a turn-out of over 150 cars.

DRIVE & DINE GILROY’S RECAP

Gilroy’s is an annual favorite. The restaurant reserves a parking lot just for out club. It was a perfect summer night with 27 Porsches soaking up the afternoon sun.

UPCOMING DRIVES

Wisconsin Drive

The Wisconsin Drive will be this year July 13-16 in its new format and new roads. This is the third iteration of this iconic trip that was initially developed by Ron and Alice Newman.

This third format of the drive will take us on Thursday to Prairie du Chien where we will stay at the wonderful River District Hotel and have dinner at the Jones’ Black Angus Restaurant that is one of the all-time favorite dinner destinations of all of our drives. On Friday morning we take off towards Dubuque with a great lunch stop at the Potosi Brewing Company Restaurant and National Brewery Museum. After lunch we will cruise to Dubuque on some of the best scenic back roads Wisconsin has to offer. We will stay at the historic Hotel Julien in Dubuque and have a couple of great restaurants reserved for dinner. On Saturday we drive south and cross the Mississippi River to the Illinois side before a stop at Poopy’s Biker Destination. Then continue North ending in Galena at lunch at Vinny Vanucchi’s Little Italy Restaurant. That afternoon is open for everyone to enjoy what Galena offers or to drive some more in Illinois and Wisconsin as the scenery and roads are fantastic. Saturday night we conclude with dinner at Timmerman’s Supper Club overlooking the Mississippi River before returning to the Hotel Julien for the night.

Let us make this another great Schonesland Tour experience! Please register at http://msreg.com/ Wisconsin2023

UPCOMING DRIVES

Red Wing Tour

We’re the Schonesland Region and we do driving tours-as good as any region around, some people might say. Last year we took a chance on a new tour to the Red Wing, Minnesota area with a more laid-back schedule. By all accounts it was a big hit. So, we’re doing it again this September with a few new twists.

For twist number ONE, as many of you may already know, this event will be our 2023 Fall tour, rather than our fantastic Wisconsin tour, which is coming up in mid-July. TWO, this trip to Red Wing will be one day longer, beginning on Thursday, September 28th for those who can get away that day. THREE, we have a REALLY good drive lined up for Friday, Sept 29th all over those curvy, hilly Wisconsin roads just across the Mississippi River from Red Wing. Except for one small stint, these are all new roads not driven last year. And FOUR, for those who want to be really adventurous, we’ll be driving early (quite early!) Saturday morning on September 29th, to the Chanhasssen Automotorplex to enjoy their last Cars and Coffee of the season that just happens to sport a German Car Octoberfest theme. But the cars are NOT the main attraction at this facilityit’s the over-the-top garages and man caves that you’re really going to enjoy.

There is no planned afternoon event after the Cars and Coffee you’re free to do whatever you wish for the afternoon. “Like what?” you may ask……Well, Prince’s Paisley Park is just four blocks away from the Automotorplex. You may select from four, different-priced mid-day guided tours at this landmark musician’s residence, recording studios and museum by ordering (online only) your tour pass at paisleypark.com. You’ll want to monitor their site so that when the tickets become available for Sept 30, you’ll be able to get one- they’re limited and very popular.

Or, you may wish to tour the world-renowned Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in nearby Chaska, MN. Learn all about it at arb.umn.edu
