This year’s 178th fair runs from August 20th through 25th in Rhinebeck, NY. As the largest agricultural six-day fair in NY, there’s plenty for every member of the family to do–go on rides, eat great food and listen to entertaining music. The fair’s goal is to give visitors an appreciation for agriculture while educating them on where food comes from, all while having a blast!

Kids will love meeting farm animals like cows, horses, pigs, chickens, sheep, rabbits and goats. With over 1,000 individual exhibitors, visitors won’t know what to do first. Explore 12 acres of livestock, milking demonstrations and sheep shearing, meet costumed storytellers from the early 1900’s, and shop artisanal goods and handmade crafts and quilts. Younger kids (ages 3-10) can visit a hands-on mock farm in the AgVenture Activity Tent while adults

Western Mass, of course!

Long celebrated as a “triple threat” destination, the region bursts with top attractions, and provides ultra-easy access and superb dollar value. High-profile places like the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Yankee Candle Village, Six Flags New England, MGM Springfield and the Springfield Museums and its Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum are must-see attractions. Bucket List Summer in N YC

We love New York City, especially in the summertime when the weather is warm and the days are long. Luckily, there are endless things to do, and as parents ourselves, we want families to have the ultimate summer.

Our NYC summer bucket 2024 is for kids and families and is chock-full of fun places to visit, including free things to do because, whether you live here or are visiting, saving money is always a great thing.

From watching a free movie at the park to enjoying one of our city pools to strolling through our amazing museums, we truly have the best offerings and #bucketlist for you this summer!

We also know that when the kids are out of school, while we want them to enjoy the city, balancing the to-do list with things to do keeps everyone including you balanced and happy.

Check out our list of all you can do this summer in New York City!

1. Peak into Dublin without leaving NYC via The Portal! This sculpture is a 24/7 real-time that is streaming until Fall (we hope, keep it clean influencers!) – where you can interact with Dubliners, no plane ticket required!

Our Fav trawbery Pickin Sps

Living on the East Coast, we experience some cliche pastimes, and one of those is waiting through the winter months for spring to come and deliver its delicious fruits, such as strawberries. Strawberry picking is not only a way to enjoy a rural farm; some are close to the city, allowing kids to see where fruit comes from.

NYC and the surrounding areas have many U-pick farm options and offer other forms of entertainment, such as picnics, feeding farm animals, and hayrides.

Tip: Strawberry season usually starts in late May and early June. However, we had an early Cherry Blossom season, which means Mother Nature is in control! Most farms have updates on their sites announcing that the strawberries are ready to be picked. We recommend checking the website, especially in early June, for any updates on picking dates as well as general added information.

Head to Alstede to pick your own strawberries from late May to early July. You can also visit for their festivals and farm fun activities planned for this summer. After a hot day at Alstede go grab a homemade ice cream or refreshing slushie made with the harvest of

Broadway is Back!

Day trip adventures to see THE LION KING on Broadway

there is something so incredibly special about taking a trip into the city with your family to see a Broadway show. From getting dressed up to finding nearby restaurants to hit before or after a show, there’s a certain excitement to the whole experience that is magical for audiences of all ages.

Recently, my kids (elementary school age to teenager) and I set off on an adventure to see a show, and it wasn’t hard to narrow down our choices. THE LION KING has been thrilling audiences for over 25 years, making it the third longestrunning show in Broadway history!

Coming from Westchester, I had the option to drive to Manhattan or travel by public transportation. I opted to take the railway and after an easy 50-minute ride from Northern Westchester to Grand Central Station in the open-aired train, we hopped off and walked a few blocks to the theater.

Times Square buzzes with excitement all day and night, and THE LION KING offers shows that will work with your schedule, including matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. I opted for a matinee so we would have a few daylight hours left to explore the city afterward.

Upon arrival, we passed a security checkpoint, and a sense of relief washed over me, knowing this extra safety measure was in place. We soaked up as much theater magic as we took our seats.

The kids’ faces lit up as the curtain rose and we settled in for a theatrical trip to the Pridelands, and I mentally high-fived myself for finding a way to turn their attention away from their devices long enough to enjoy the excitement only a Broadway show can bring to audiences.

THE LION KING is a heartwarming Broadway experience, following a comingof-age story that explores the depth of the familiar yet reimagined characters of Simba and his family and friends. We join him on his journey from a cub to an adult, watching him discover his inner strength and courage with the help of his friends, Timon, Pumbaa, Zazu and Nala.

I expected to see some elaborate cos-

tumes, but I didn’t expect to be fully awestruck! The exquisitely detailed costumes allow for intimate and direct viewing of the actors’ faces and expressions. The textile puppets and masks took a whopping 37,000 hours to create – and it showed.

The stage sprang to life with a breathtaking amalgamation of lively characters, like 18-foot-tall exotic giraffes, puppets of every size, and a massive elephant maneuvered by four actors that you have to see to believe.

The show also takes families on a journey through Africa with songs and dialogue in six indigenous African languages, such as Swahili, Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho, Tswana and Congolese. Powerful voices belted out favorites like “Circle of Life,” “I Just Can’t

Wait to be King,” and “Be Prepared.” We were fully in “Hakuna Matata” mode, smiling and swaying along with the rhythm.

The curtains closed and we were buzzing from the magic and the lessons that unfolded. It was so refreshing to revel in a live experience where we used our imaginations and witnessed the power of theater-making.

A pivotal experience for families, live theater truly is back and better than ever.

THE LION KING runs for two hours and 30 minutes and is designed for kids ages six and up. The show performs 8 times a week. Tickets are available at the Minskoff Theatre box office (200 W 45th St.) or at lionking. com/tickets. Learn more at lionking.com.

Keeping It Chill

When summer break creates summer stress

As the days grow longer now that summer is here- visions of lazy beach days and carefree day drinking may be on your agenda. That is until you remember that you now have children. If your children are old enough to be at sleepaway camp, congratulations. Your summer vibes are your own.

For parents of younger children, the regular juggle of work and family life becomes even more untenable in the season of less school and more pressure to make magical warmweather memories. If you dread the additional mental load of reapplying sunscreen and vacuuming sand from your messy mom car, fear not. With some planning, the Summer season can still give you the respite you crave from real life.

Fill your childcare g ap

In generations past, families lived in multigenerational homes, offering many competent hands to care for little ones in every season. In America today, young families do not live within the same support network, requiring parents to seek outside support from daycare centers, private nannies and schools to fill the gap of adult supervision.

When schools and daycare centers change their hours for summer, parents must look to other places for support. There are full-time nannies, of course, but If a full-time private nanny is not the right fit for your family, consider a part-time summer nanny or babysitter to ensure that you are able to both work and fill your own cup in the summer months.

College students returning home for the season can become an excellent source of temporary childcare to ensure your work life and mental health remain a priority. Look to families with older children who might not need their own private nanny when their children are away at camp. Those families might jump at the chance to have you take

their unused summer hours if the nanny is open to a share.

create a co-Parenting community If your budget does not allow for paid childcare, look to your community for support. Are there friends that would take your children for a few hours on a Tuesday if you take theirs for a few hours on Thursday? Co-parenting with another family can ensure that you have child-free hours to sit with a beach read.

Bring your families together to share carpooling and cooking responsibilities so you don’t spend your entire summer in the car and kitchen. Seek friends with older children who can help entertain your younger children so that you can have an adult conversation. Develop supportive relationships with local families to help each other get through the day and create a tighter sense of community in your neighborhood.

g ive the g ift of c amp Finding extra hands in the home is important, but take into account the value of camp for your children and yourself. If able to, there are usually last-minute openings at some camps. Camp gives children the space to create new relationships outside of the school setting and nurture interests that

aren’t emphasized in more academic settings. Even if you can only afford to do a few days or one week, find subject-specific camps that will advance your child’s interest in current passion points. Today, children can spend one-week exploring robotics and then the next exploring improv. Use this summer as an opportunity to expand interests and relationships with like-minded children.

create Magic

When social media makes you worry that you’re the only family not off on a summer holiday, turn off your phone. Stop fixating on creating Instagram-worthy summer magic for your children. Remember that the magical quality of Summer comes from the freedom to be unscheduled or in just living in the moment. Magic comes from running through sprinklers with neighborhood children. Magic comes from unplanned trips to get ice cream, visiting a new town. Magic comes from letting your child play in the sand uninterrupted while you do nothing but read that book.Let kids get bored. They will create their own games. Order pizza. Grill hot dogs. Forget the laundry. Do the dishes tomorrow. Create a slower pace for yourself that allows you to have time to just be. Enjoy the messy, unstructured season of summer because that is where the real magic lives.

17 Unique Ways to Save Kids Art Projects & Pictures

With summer, one thing that comes with the end-of-school tasks is cleaning out the bookspacks and school folders. Children are such wonderful little artists, aren’t they? Their creations are bright, colorful, and always one-of-a-kind, and the way they smile when proudly displaying their latest work of art is truly one of parenthood’s greatest joys.

However, as beautiful as their creations are, the daily art projects may have piled up, and you now have a pile of artwork stuffed in that backpack. And you may be still figuring out what to keep and what to toss.

There’s no way to save every little doodle your child creates, but we have some creative ideas for saving those extra special art projects (while saving space at the same time). Here are 17 unique ways to save kids’ art projects and pictures.

Coffee table book . Scan or take pictures of your favorite artwork and order a keepsake book. You can add pictures of your kids to make it even more personal. Most picture sharing websites, like Shutterfly and Snapfish, will do this for a reasonable price.

Digital frame . Simply upload the scanned artwork to a digital picture frame and display an ongoing slideshow anywhere in your home or office.

Jewelry. Turn your kids’ art into art for your body. Create a necklace, charm bracelet, or even earrings that you or your child can show off for years to come. KidzCanDesign and Formia Design are popular websites that will do this.

String a clothesline . Run a strand or two of clothesline across a wall and secure projects of all shapes and sizes with clothespins. This is a great way to decorate kids’ bedrooms or playrooms.

Clipboard gallery. Neatly affix a series of clipboards to the wall in a square or rectangular shape, spacing them apart equally. Then clip the kids’ most recent artwork to each one, easily switching projects out for new favorites every few months.

Shadowbox . Not all artwork is flat or can be scanned on a home printer. Purchase a shadow box picture frame for three-dimensional projects to display on a wall or shelf.

Placemats . Take the artwork to Staples and have it laminated, or purchase selflaminating adhesive sheets and laminate it yourself. Then use the laminated art as fun placemats for mealtime.

Artwork mail . Turn artwork into special greeting cards by asking your child to write a message on the back to a grandparent or other family member. Then send it in the mail for a nice surprise!

Homemade puzzles . Adhere the artwork to a piece of cardboard and cut it into puzzle pieces for a fun, homemade puzzle kids will be proud to complete. Printer’s Studio will create a puzzle for you if using a picture of the artwork.

Start an Instagram page . Create a separate Instagram account for sharing images of your kids artwork. Set the page to private and request only close family and friends. If you aren’t into social media sharing, you can create a shareable album using Google Photos.

Stuffed animals or plushes . Forget that old teddy bear – now you can turn your kids’ creations into a friendly stuffed animal to

snuggle with every night. Go to budsies.com or ChildsOwn.com to make your plush. Create a photo album . You probably have a bunch of photo albums already, so why not create one just for artwork? Scan pictures of the art and print or order the photos, then slide each photo into an album. Record the child’s name and age under each photo and store with your other photo albums as a precious keepsake.

Bulletin board . This is arguably the easiest way to display artwork. Pin art projects to the bulletin board, then switch out the old stuff for new as the year goes by.

Floating frames . A floating frame will allow you to display images between clear sheets of glass or acrylic. Hang the frames on the wall and create an elegant mini gallery of artwork that can be changed often and easily.

Explore picture sharing websites for new ideas . Most picture sharing websites offer a variety of unconventional methods for displaying pictures. You can turn your kids’ artwork into fridge magnets, coffee mugs, key chains, mouse pads, blankets, calendars, canvas photos, clothing, pillows, cell phone cases and more.

Smartphone Apps . There’s an app for everything, and kids’ artwork is no exception. There are several apps available that will store your children’s previous projects for free. Try Keepy, Canvsly, Artkive.

Keepsake storage boxes . File it all away using colored and labeled plastic boxes; using a different one for each child. See how easy (and cute!) it is at Bowl Full of Lemons.
