Sandy Valley High School’s 2020 graduation will be held on the original graduation date of May 17, but due to COVID-19 the graduation ceremony will be in a different format.

According to school officials, graduation will happen in two parts for the 100 members of the senior class.

First graduating seniors may wear their caps and gowns and walk across the stage, receive their diploma and have their picture taken by JM Sport Photo. They then are to immediately exit the building to maintain social distance and allow the next “individual” graduation.

Each family can have a total of 8 people for their picture.

Seniors (along with the help of their parents/guardians) must sign up for their “individual” time as soon as possible and respond to the Google survey. Questions should be emailed to #SVClassof2020 #ForeveraCardinal or call the school at 330- 866-9371.

Sandy Valley schools will have the photos printed and will give them as a gift to the graduate, along with their actual diplomas, DVD of the graduation video and their senior t-shirt on a pick-up date following May 17.

The second part of the graduation format will premiere a graduation video at 7 p.m. on all of the social media outlets, which will include the individual speeches of the Co-Valedictorians. School officials said this video will follow the traditional graduation ceremony as close as we possibly can.

This video will also be put on the DVD’s and given to the graduate along with their teeshirt – free of cost.

Class Information

Co-Valedictorians of the 2020 graduating class are Jordan Frederick, daughter of Bob and Chantil Frederick of Waynesburg, and Loghan Russell, son of Scot and Kristy Russell of East Sparta.

Upon graduation, Jordan plans to attend Kent State University to study Visual Communication and Design, while Russell plans to attend the Ohio State University to double major in finance and real estate.

There is no salutatorian this year.
