Benefit set for woman in need of kidney By NANCY SCHAAR FPS Correspondent
A special benefit will be held Saturday, April 27 from noon to 5 p.m., rain or shine, to raise funds to help with expenses for a kidney transplant for Nikki Cvengross Fraschieri. The event will be held at the Vets Club at 2038 Brenner Rd. NE, Carrollton. There will be a car, truck and bike show. Best of Show is sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts. Good food is guaranteed and will be provided by Jimmy’s Backyard BBQ catering service.
There will be a live DJ, silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, bake sale and much more. Nikki was diagnosed in May of 2016 with Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody Vasculitis. This disease is attacking Nikki’s kidneys. Nikki is a Carrollton High School graduate and is a 2016 graduate of Kent State University. She is an occupational therapist. This disease attacks the small blood vessels in her body and affects the filters in the kidneys. Nikki has refused to just sit around during these last three years and tries to remain active and likes to kayak, camp, hike, run and many more outdoor activities.
Nikki must use her home dialysis unit five nights a week at her home. The process takes about 7 ½ hours each night. The dialysis leaves Nikki very tired and the feeling of exhaustion is always there, according to Nikki. Nikki’s mom, Debbie Riddell, also of Carrollton, wanted to be the donor for a kidney for Nikki but doctors said they needed a woman about Nikki’s age to be the donor. Debbie is still set to donate her kidney to someone else in need that is a match. For more information or to donate, please visit online at akidneyfornikki@ yahoo.com. Donations can be made at Consumer’s Bank to the special fund set up for Nikki.

Search continues for missing teen By NANCY SCHAAR FPS Correspondent “We will not give up. We will continue this search until this boy is home,” said Carroll County Sheriff Dale Williams on Tuesday, referring to Jonathan E. Minard. The 14-year-old was reported missing by his parents, Edward and Brook Minard of Dellroy, at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, after he failed to return home from helping with chores on a farm near New Harrisburg. According to information released by the sheriff’s department, Jonathan had helped with milking the previous afternoon and returned to the farm after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sometime during that afternoon, he allegedly complained of a toothache and said he would call his mother and go home. Williams said, “His mom never received that call.” The teen is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, approximately 145 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue hoodie, brown pants and brown shoes. He attends Bell-Herron Middle School in Carrollton. On Monday, April 15, the sheriff and
JONATHAN MINARD deputies, along with approximately 150 volunteers, conducted a search of the perimeter area around New Harrisburg, searching 50 feet on each side of township and county roads. Trees downed in Sunday’s storm A storm that hit Carroll County late Sunday afternoon brought heavy rain, wind gusts and a tornado warning. A tornado watch was issued around 3 p.m. by the weather service and stayed in force through 9 p.m. Sunday night. A tornado warning was issued at 5:49 p.m. but cancelled just 10 minutes later. The main force of the storm seems to have hit the Malvern and Brown

Power outages ranged through most of the western townships of the county. Carroll Electric Cooperative worked overnight Sunday to restore power to about 3,000 customers who lost power during the storm. As of 9:30 p.m. Monday, April 15, only three households remained without power.
