Atwood Lake

If we don’t have snow for Christmas, children around Atwood Lake have no worries. Beavers Marine Store of Magnolia has a great ride ready for Santa. Santa is in a pontoon boat and the reindeer are ready to fly at the display on State Route 542, located near The Bluffs.

Band with local roots is honored by Las Vegas By DON RUTLEDGE FPS Staff Writer Anyone remember the music of the Smith Brothers back in the late 60s and early 70s? Well the current Smith Brothers band is still performing and was recently recognized by the mayor of Las Vegas for their years of performing in that city. Greg Smith, one of the current members, explained Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman wanted to recognize the band for the many years that we’ve been performing here and the contri-

butions we’ve made to the city. “So, she proclaimed Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, as Smith Brothers Band Day in Las Vegas. When I informed her that day was the 90th birthday of our Mother Bea, she wanted to honor her as well. Needless to say we had a great celebration that weekend,” he added. Members of the current Smith Brothers band include Greg, guitar and lead vocals; Rami, drums and vocals; Shawn, bass and vocals, and Rick Daugherty on keyboards for over 25 years with the band. Past members include Donnie Castleman (bass player with Terry Fator) Eddie DiMarino (bass player with the

Righteous Brothers), Dixie Dawkins (sax player with Howard Hewitt), Sari Lopez and Stacy Juilerat on vocals. Casinos in Las Vegas where the Smith Brothers have performed included: Aladdin, Arizona Charlies East, Arizona Charlies West, Bally’s, Barbary Coast, Bourbon Street, California Hotel, Desert Inn, Dunes, Excalibur, Flamingo, Fremont, Frontier, Gold Coast, Harrahs, Landmark, Marina, Maxim, MGM, Mint, New York-New York, Orleans, Palazzo, Sams Town, San Remo, Silverbird, Stardust and

When you look into her dark brown eyes, their gentleness makes you melt. Despite spending a few hours on airplanes, she was not skittish or nervous. She wanted to be with her puppies and, more importantly, be loved. Dumped by her owner, Sadie was found on a person’s back porch in Danville, Ky., where she gave birth to her puppies just over a week ago. Instead of being taken to the pound where they would have been euthanized, they were rescued by Kaleidoscope K9s, a

dog rescue and foster group founded by Roger and Cathy Dills of Seville, Ohio. On Thursday morning, Dec. 5, a woman named Amanda and a member of Pilots N Paws flew from Dayton Wright Brothers Airport to Danville, Ky., to pick up Sadie and her puppies. She then flew the dogs to the Warren County Airport where she met fellow Pilots N Paws member Greg Ciliberti who flew the dogs to Carrollton’s Toalston Airfield. Sandra Jones of Dellroy and a friend waited patiently at the airfield ready
