Election day is fast approaching Carrollton man
It’s time to pick candidates – and decide issues! The 16 polling locations for Carroll County’s 23 precincts will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for the Nov. 6 general election. Stories pertaining to the various candidates and issues are published in this edition, along with the 16 voting locations. Carroll County Board of Election officials have estimated a turnout Tuesday of 60 percent of the 18,315 registered voters in the county – or 10,989. Tax levies are listed as For and Against while State Issue 1 and Local Options are designated Yes and No.
Absentee voting continues until 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the Carroll County Board of Elections office located on the ground level of the Carroll County Courthouse in Carrollton. Office hours have been extended as follows: Saturday, Nov. 3, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. when absentee voting ends. Anyone who missed the Oct. 9 registration deadline may vote a provisional ballot at their respective polling location Nov. 6.
Candidates
The Carroll County Common Pleas Court non-partisan judgeship is the only contested race among the four county candidates at Tuesday’s Nov. 6 general election. Michael V. Repella II is seeking to unseat Dominick E. Olivito Jr. for a new six-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2019. Uncontested county candidates are Jeffrey L. Ohler, Republican incumbent for the four-year term beginning Jan. 1, and Lynn Fairclough, Republican incumbent for county auditor and a new four-year term which doesn’t begin until March 9, 2019. Newcomers for the 95th Ohio House District, which includes Carroll County, are Dan Milleson, Democratic, and Don Jones, Republican, both candidates for a four-year term as State Representative. Seeking a new two-year term to the U. S. Congress from the 6th District, which includes Carroll County, are Incumbent Republican Bill Johnson and Shawna Roberts, Democratic. For Judge of the Seventh District Court of Appeals (includes Carroll County) are Kathleen Bartlett and David A. D’Apolito. For Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court (full term commencing Jan. 1, 2019) are Craig Baldwin and Michael P. Donnelly.

Issues Several tax levy renewals will dominate the Nov. 6 general election ballot in Carroll County. They include three county tax levies – three village levies – four township levies – plus three local options, two area school levies and a public library renewal. Additional levy requests include a fire district levy and a library levy. Carroll Countians will also join voters throughout Ohio in deciding a controversial statewide proposed constitutional amendment. County Levies:
A renewal of 1.7-mills for general construction reconstruction, resurfacing and repair of roads and bridges, which amounts to $0.17 cents for each $100 of property valuation for five years, commencing in 2019, first due in calendar year 2020. (Involves all 23 precincts) A renewal of 0.5-mill for providing and maintaining senior citizen services or facilities (Friendship Center), which amounts of $0.05 for each $100 of valuation for five years, commencing in 2019, first due in calendar year 2020. (Involves all 23 precincts) A renewal of a 3.6-mill tax for the operation of community programs and services authorized by County Boards of Developmental Disabilities (Carroll Hills program), which amount of $0.36 for each $100 of valuation for 10 years, commencing in 2019, first due in calendar year 2020. Village Levies:
DELLROY – A renewal of a 1.26-mill tax for the purpose of fire equipment for the Dellroy Community Volunteer Fire Department, which amounts to $0.126 for each $100 of valuation for five years commencing in 2018, first due in calendar year 2019. (Part of Monroe precinct) MINERVA – A renewal of a 1.2-mill tax for recreational purposes, which amounts to 12 cents for each $100 of valuation for five years, commencing in 2019, first due in calendar year 2020. (Minerva precinct) MINERVA – A renewal of a 0.3-mill tax for providing and maintaining senior citizens services or facilities of the Minerva Senior Center, which amounts to three cents for each $100 of valuation for five years, commencing in 2019, first due in calendar year 2020. killed in Waynesburg By NANCY SCHAAR FPS Correspondent Stark County Sheriff George T. Maeir announced Friday, Oct. 26, that deputies are still investigating the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Jerry Hendershott Jr. of Carrollton. Maeir said the shooting took place around 10 p.m. Thursday night, Oct. 25, at 9173 James St., Lot 6 in Waynesburg. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the adult male victim with a single gunshot wound. Hendershott died at the scene. During the initial investigation, deputies learned 19-year-old Gage Woods allegedly shot Hendershott once during an altercation at the Waynesburg home. Woods allegedly fled the scene immediately following the shooting and was located a short time later in Malvern.

He was arrested and charged with one count of murder, which is a felony in the first degree. He is being held in the Stark County Jail. Hendershott’s bond has been set at $2 million. Anyone with any information about this shooting is asked to call the Stark County Sheriff’s Office at 330-4303800.
Transit offers free rides to voting precincts

If you are a registered voter in Carroll County there are no more excuses for not voting during the Midterm Elections thanks to the Carroll County Transit. Transit will offer rides for any Carroll County resident to their voting precint and back to their home at no cost. Transit will operate with extended hours from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Elec-
tion Day to make sure everyone has an opportunity to vote. Transit is offering the rides on a first come first served basis and encourages voters to call now to schedule their ride for Tuesday.
