Commissioners approve agreement with Jeff. Co. CAC By JD LONG

jim@harrisonnewsherald.com

CADIZ – The Harrison County Commissioner’s approved agreement (48-20) on Wednesday, which dealt with the Jefferson County Community Action Council (JCCAC). The employment program, that also involves Harrison County, deals with youths 14 to 24 years of age teaching them occupational skills and providing valuable work experience in summer

youth programs. CAC’s Mike McGlumphy described it as the Comprehensive Case Management Employee Program (CCMEP) and told the board that the state of Ohio is the only one that has this particular program. “It is a mixture of WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) funds, which you guys already approved of in July and TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) funds,” McGlumphy

explained. He stated that this contract is for TANF explaining that they cannot be run together (with WIOA) “because the funding period for these two grants are different.” The official agreement is with the Harrison County Jobs & Family Services and the JCCAC, per the document agreement. “This contract is a result of the 2018 request for proposal issued by Workforce Investment Area 16,” according to the agreement. The

program “provides employment, training services and, other supportive services to mandatory and voluntary participants based upon a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s employment and training needs.” McGlumphy told the board that along with occupational skills and college training, the biggest part of the grant “goes to our summer youth program.” The commissioners also followed

through with three more agreements (45-20, 46-20, 47-20) dealing with an oil and gas lease in Shortcreek and Green Townships, involving land parcels the county owns. The name as the land professional is Ed Leistman of Canton. Commissioner Paul Coffland read the agreements and described (4620) as the “order of payment.” The figure given was $31,028.98 for 5.6

CADIZ – When Johnny DiCarlantonio talked about coming to Cadiz with his DiCarlo’s-style pizza a few years ago, hopes were up but there were a few snags in the road. But not anymore because, as they say in communications classes, word of mouth is the best advertisement there is. The community has flocked to Johnny D’s where it forced them to not only roll in plenty of dough last week, but they also ran out of it. For the first four days straight last week they sold anywhere from 100 to 125 trays of pizza each day.

“Our team is honored to be in Cadiz and Harrison County. We can’t thank the community enough for supporting us as we get started,” Johnny said in a statement this week. “Valley-style pizza is something very special in our area, and we’re really looking forward to continuing this great tradition in the Cadiz area.” In that first week the crew was so busy they couldn’t even find the time to leave the kitchen for a photograph and a few words, they were that swamped. Johnny D’s is located on the Derek Ferguson property, where they occupy the opposite end of the Trinity Express Care facility. “We’d like to congratulate all local leaders for the

recent growth and job creation in Harrison County; there are now many great opportunities for companies like mine to thrive here.” Johnny D’s offers pizza by the tray but also by the slice. But he also offers desserts to go along with the rest of the menu, which includes salads, four kinds of hoagies, and also various types of pizza, including white pizza. Members of the Harrison County Regional Chamber of Commerce and Harrison County Auditor Allison Anderson were all there to cut the ribbon last Friday along with plenty of friends and family.
