Dennison Yard tabbed as next Tappan vendor JD LONG

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The announcement of the new Tappan vendor was supposed to come last month but after a delay the word came out last Friday, as the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) finally announced the Dennison Yard restaurant as the new kid on the block. Executive Director for MWCD Craig Butler stated that after some contractual details were worked out
these past few months they could now come forward with the introduction. The Tappan Marina restaurant is on schedule for its mid-June opening where there were once two separate structures, has now come together and is taking on the shape of its design. “It’s basically under roof and work is ongoing inside…” Butler stated. He pointed out the owners are locals to the area including Tappan Lake calling it a “great partnership to start with them.” Chief of Recreation Ryan McCleaster followed up by reminding the board of the recent history of the process involving the Murray’s sudden
resignation and finding Dennison Yard in the “eleventh hour.” He continued to describe the process of searching for a new vendor since January and after some “back and forth” they are confident with the new vendor and are happy to have them. McCleaster said the owners have experience with the McDonald’s corporation in past ownership of several franchises. “Pretty much the standard concession agreement that we’ve used with other vendors that we have within the district,” McCleaster explained. “The significant terms of this agreement is a

three-year agreement,” and will run through 2023. McCleaster said the MWCD would receive 7 percent of all revenue with the exception for the months of June through August of 5 percent “to get them going.” “You know, try to get them to generate the revenue they need in order to be successful because at the end of the day, their success is going to be our success as well too, so we want them to be successful in that capacity.” He said both sides were happy with that exception considering the new vendor would be losing approximately
a month of revenue since the opening would not be until mid-June, as McCleaster pointed out. He said the name of the Tappan restaurant is still being worked on. He added that the vendor is working with the MWCD about the Memorial Weekend activities for a “soft opening” with some kind of set up in the parking lot once everything is cleared out but that is not a definite as logistics still need to be worked out, according to Shari Lewis, co-owner (with Matt

Milleson opens Milestone Company Insurance in Cadiz By JD LONG
jim@harrisonnewsherald.com
CADIZ – For 74 years the Millesons owned and operated the Milleson Insurance Agency in Freeport through Nationwide only. And for the past seven years, it has been run by Dan Milleson after it was turned over to him by his father. Now, Dan has renamed and rebranded his agency into the Milestone Company and is completely independent. “Now we can sell to ten to 15 companies,” Dan said on the newly planted lawn Thursday afternoon. And that includes Nationwide as well, just not exclusively with them anymore but through a multitude of carriers. Thursday, the grand opening occurred off S. Main Street next to Sander’s Market with Gary’s Hot Rod BBQ providing lunch, refreshments and ice cream, compliments of the Deersville General Store — and it was all on the house. Dan thanked his parents and especially his father Rich for placing the faith in him to take over, which he said he “probably didn’t deserve.” “Without his trust none of this would be possible,” Dan told the
crowd. He then ran down a list of thanks beginning with Jim Bardall as the reason the building got completed. He gave thanks to former prosecutor Owen Beetham for opening the possibility of buying the building at 232 S. Main Street, in the first place. “Great community servant,” he described Owen. Seth Morrison of Port Washington did the brick work and Bill Marks, who he called a “great guy” did work on the building as well. The grass work, which grew in nicely, was done by Chris Vich of Wilgus and Company and Terry Wassum did the indoor painting. Business partner Adam Perzanowski took the time to thank his partner Dan calling him “selfless and dedicated to the community and Cadiz.” He said it was a great move for occupying the Cadiz office. “It was a great move for us and set us up for the future,” Perzanowski said. Both said they were excited about the move where Dan now takes up residence in the upper floor of the building. Dan said Adam also helps with their Steubenville office as well. The Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce was present to do the honors and cut the ribbon on the front steps surrounded by Milleson’s entire staff.

Miller’s Martial Arts students earn distinguished degree CADIZ - Brady Positano and Ben Puskarich recently earned a distinction that few achieve. They were promoted to Black Belt at Miller’s Marital Arts by Grand Master Dennie Miller. Both Positano and Puskarich have been long time students of Miller’s starting their journey to blackbelt at the age of five years old. Positano is a senior at Harrison Central and Puskarich is a junior, where they co-captain the Huskies soccer team. To be promoted to the rank of Black Belt, a student must show proficiency in forms, fighting, weapons and breaking.

Forms show that the student has mastered the correct techniques of kicks and blocks to be able to fight and break effectively. Both boys successfully broke one-inch boards with several different types of kicks and blocks. They were also required to break a one-inch slab of concrete. Students are expected to master weapons, which in the Miller system is the nun-chukka. For the fighting phase of the test, they must show that they can effectively protect themselves against multiple attackers. to master. Miller has watched these boys grow up as they would come to classes with their older brothers before they were old enough to join the classes. It was special for Brady and Ben to earn their black belts at the same time, as their brothers did the same thing in 2015. Miller teaches the Tainui system where he recognizes a seventh degree of black belt as a grand master. This system is a combination of Karate, Kung Fu and Tae Kwon Do.
The Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce cut the ribbon at the Milestone Company at 232 S. Main Street in Cadiz on Thursday. The company was the former Milleson Insurance Company of Freeport when it was with Nationwide but Dan Milleson said they are an independent company now. Mayor John Migliore was on hand accompanied by plenty of public officials to celebrate the move as well.
