HELLO I’M MATTHEW SCHEETZ IT IS AN HONOR TO GREET YOU! I am currently attending Johnson & Wales University majoring in Graphic Design. I have always had a creative eye for design. My areas of expertise include branding, layout, and typography. I enjoy doing both traditional and digital techniques of design. I’m happy working within a team of other designers or just by myself. I love learning new styles and techniques and applying them to my work to improve them. I greatly appreciate any feedback anyone has to offer on my work.

CHOP MAGAZINE EDITORIAL DESIGN | PUBLICATION DESIGN | PRINT DESIGN I was responsible for the creation, design, development, and production of a magazine layout based entirely on... me! Being art director, editor in chief, journalist, graphic designer contributor, and photographer all at the same time meant I had no restrictions on how the magazine got laid out. With the freedom to give the magazine a visual “look,” I chose the magazine’s theme to be about ax throwing! All content inside the magazine was entirely created by me and is entirely original.
ROBOTICS T-SHIRT T-SHIRT DESIGN | PRINT DESIGN In 2019, while being a part of Hunterdon Central Regional High School’s robotics team 3637, the Daleks. I was assigned to create a t-shirt design that represents the theme of that year’s competition of Deep Space. For those who don’t know what a Dalek is, it’s an alien from the British tv show Doctor Who. To stay with the consistency of the team’s branding, the color palette is mainly limited to the team’s vibrant red, white, and rich black colors.

SPOTIFY BROCHURE BROCHURE DESIGN | PROTOTYPING | PRINT DESIGN Designing a unique brochure layout in a format that compliments an existing brand was the objective of this project. Following Spotify’s brand guidelines, I developed a brochure that serves as an overview of the company and a promotional piece that gets more people to use the streaming service. After some research on the fundamentals of brochure design, I put my own unique twist on a typical tri-fold by creating the Spotify logo as the focal point of the design. With this, I created a custom (hand) die-cut to the cover to give some dimension to the brochure.
BETTER WORLD DESIGN BROCHURE EDITORIAL DESIGN | PRINT DESIGN I created an event program for a hypothetical design conference at Johnson & Wales University. The written content for the brochure was provided. The challenge was to lay out and display the content in a compelling yet reasonable format using typographic hierarchy and optical identification. With the event happening at Johnson & Wales, I used the school’s royal blue and saturated yellow colors. My objective for the brochure was to give the appeal of the city of Providence, RI, so that the audience appreciates the surrounding area of Johnson & Wales.
TYPEFACE POSTER TYPOGRAPHY | LAYOUT DESIGN | PRINT DESIGN Out of an extended list of font families to choose from, I chose the font Univers to create an 11x17 poster that showcases the font and maintains consistency in the overall design. Early in my brainstorming I had the idea to have a play on words with the typeface. My objective for the poster was to make a very playful poster while still containing the information about the typeface, and it’s anatomy.
PROVIDENCE PARKS WEB DEVELOPMENT | WEB APP | WED DESIGN Providence Parks provides safe, healthy, welcoming spaces that meet the needs of Providence’s distinct and diverse neighborhoods. The goal of this website design project was to update their existing website to make it more appealing and more accessible for the users. However, the redesign still needed to follow the current brand guidelines of Providence Parks. The final design resulted in a simplified user experience with easy-to-find information about the parks in Providence. With a clean layout and a post carousel for easy navigation, this site redesign makes the audience want to stay longer and learn more about what the other parks have to offer.
TYPOGRAPHY QUOTE POSTER TYPOGRAPHY | POSTER DESIGN In this project, I had to select from a list of quotes and create an inspirational poster. The quote had to use appropriate fonts that were expressive of the emotion in the quote. The object of this project was for us to understand the intricacies of typography, anatomy, and how to represent emotion, convey information, and type as an image. The objective of this poster design was to use font choices and treatment and give meaning to this sports quote by using a sports typeface such as New Athletic and the icon of the baseball. It pulls everything together for an effective type poster.
HOKEY POKEY VOODOO BRAND IDENTITY| PRINT DESIGN The challenge was creating a brand logo by choosing two words blindly from a dictionary. After receiving the two words, I would have to make the logo representing the words selected. After receiving the words “Hokey Pokey” and “Voodoo,” I immediately researched what represents Voodoo. Once I came across a voodoo doll, the logo spoke for itself. I wanted the style of the voodoo doll to look natural by using browns and tans as the primary colors, then red as the accent for the button eye and the pins. I used lots of elements of design while making the doll such as the use of texture and lines as the sticheds going across the body.
TYPOGRAPHY PLAYING CARDS TYPOGRAPHY | PRINT DESIGN This typography playing cards project is about creating 26 cards, one for each alphabet letter. Each card needed to feature a different font for that specific letter, the font name, and a fun fact about that font. Additionally, the back of the cards contains a pattern design that uses the font and letter chosen. For my cards, I chose a font starting with the letter of the alphabet. The result is a card deck that uses my typography, illustration, layout, and color theory knowledge.
