This year’s One Book, One Community teen selection is Give Me a Sign by Anna Sortino! If you are a fan of Jenny Han, Kasie West or Sandhya Menon, then you will absolutely love this book! Give Me a Sign is a joyful young adult romance that highlights Deaf pride and culture while tactfully shining light on some of the traumas that Deaf/ Hard of Hearing individuals face. Full of emotion, summer-camp-nostalgia and found community, this coming-of-age story is bound to hit you in all the right feels.
We’re hosting a virtual author visit with Anna Sortino on Feb. 1 where she’ll teach the basics of Deaf history and culture, while also sharing from personal experience about growing up with hearing aids and giving suggestions as to what participants can do to create a more accessible society. There will also be a Q&A at the end of the presentation!
