ALL AGES FEATURING... MEDIA MATCH You just finished a great book - or maybe a not-so-great book – and you’re wondering what to read next. Or maybe you just watched a captivating movie and would like to see something similar. If you’re a student, you might need books for a school project. Where can you get recommendations? Look to the Library! Whether you’re seeking books, movies or music, we’re trained for this and we’d love to help. To get started, simply click here to fill out the Media Match Form and a librarian will send three to four
recommendations in an email. All of the suggestions will be items you can access through our eBook and eAudiobook collections or our streaming services, like Hoopla or Kanopy. To access recommended materials, you will need a Schaumburg Library card. If you live in the Schaumburg Library service area and don’t have a card, you can apply online for immediate access to online resources. SCHAUMBURG ENVIRONMENTAL FAIR DROP IN • Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Rd., Schaumburg • Saturday, June 12 1-3:30 p.m. This fun, family-friendly event features presentations and exhibits that will show you how to create a haven for honeybees, mason bees, monarch butterflies, hummingbirds and many other pollinators. Visitors are invited to learn about the life cycle of honeybees and monarch butterflies, as well as what they can do at home to promote these important insects. Environmental organizations will be on hand to answer questions about their programs and projects. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about the Nature Center’s new Pollinator
Display Garden, scheduled to open later this year. Registration is required for the following Environmental Fair presentations. We’re excited to celebrate diversity this summer! Join us for reading and activities with our Summer Challenge: Reading Colors Your World, and start logging your progress June 1. This summer-long learning program is a great way for kids to have fun with their families, all while experiencing the benefits of reading. Find ways to connect, design and inspire as you earn badges and work towards a final prize. New this year: teens and adults who complete the Challenge can select a charity from our pre-approved list and the Library will make a $5 donation on your behalf (while supplies last). You can participate entirely online if you choose, making it easy to have fun with the Summer Challenge while still keeping yourself and others safe. The Bias Inside Us brings us an exploration of implicit bias to help us all become aware of our own bias so we can recognize its influence and impact on our behaviors and worldview. The Bias Inside Us is divided into six, interactive sections that will introduce you to implicit bias,
show you examples of implicit bias in real life, reveal the serious consequences of implicit bias and help you retrain your brain to overcome your own biases. Each box serves one child and includes breakfast and lunch for two days. Meals are available to all children 18 or younger. When you arrive, you can use Curbside PickUp or come inside to pick up your meal box. Free Summer Meals are part of the Summer Food Service Program funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education.

DROP IN • Hanover Park Branch Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, June 2 - Aug. 13 • Noon – 2 p.m. This summer, stop by our Hanover Park Branch to pick up a free, nutritious grabn-go meal box. Each box serves one child and includes breakfast and lunch for two days. Meals are available to all children 18 or younger. When you arrive, you can use Curbside Pick-Up or come inside to pick up your meal box. Free Summer Meals are part of the Summer Food Service Program funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Teen Brings Smiles to Cancer Kids “Recently, I came to get a book for my independent reading project for school,” “We’re supposed to pick a book and do a project related to it.” Isha said she chose Wilder Girls by Rory Power.
Conant High School student Isha Patel was just a toddler when she started visiting Schaumburg Library. As a child, she’d come with her mom to get children’s books. Later, she’d visit with friends to work on homework, with a little side trip to Oberweiss for ice cream.
Isha and her family continued using the Library during the pandemic, checking out books online and using Curbside Pick-Up to get them. But her latest visit to the Library was for a very different reason: she wanted to collect books and toys for young cancer patients and needed a spot for her donation box. The Library was happy to help with such a worthy cause.
As an ambassador for Cancer Kids First, Isha came up with the idea in hopes it would bring a smile to the children in hospital cancer wards. “I thought they’d love the toys and also like knowing they’re not alone in the battle,” she said. Volunteering with Cancer Kids First was not a requirement for school or anything else, Isha explained. It was just something she wanted to do to give back. With her donation box at the Library filled with items from generous community members, she was able to deliver toys and books to share with many young patients.
