by Kurt Elison
Fiddler on the Roof opened on Broadway in September of 1964 and played more than 3,000 performances. It was the longest running show on Broadway until 1979 when Grease gained the honor. It won nine Tony Awards, including best musical, score, book, direction and choreography. Fiddler has been revised on Broadway several times.
When I was invited to direct Fiddler on the Roof for SCERA, I immediately thought of my dad, Jerry Elison. He loved this show! Once he took me all the way to LA to see a Broadway Review called Jerome Robbins Broadway, just because Jerome Robbins had choreographed Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway. He loved to share theater that was uplifting and made people feel happy.
The picture here is from the last time my dad directed Fiddler on this stage. I was blessed to be in that show, along with my children and several nieces. Some of those “daughters” are in this show tonight as slightly older “daughters.”
My dad said in one of the many director’s notes he wrote for this show, “Our attempt with this production has been to make Anatevka a real village with real people.”
I could not have said it better. Just like our lives, this show has so many funny moments, but also some heartfelt and heart wrenching ones. And just like Tevya, we can find love and support from our families, friends, and neighbors regardless of our various paths through life.
I have been very blessed to work with this wonderful cast and crew, who have all worked very hard on this production. We hope you, who are our families, friends and neighbors, enjoy the show!

EMMA BAYLESS
(Lighting Designer) Emma is excited to be designing at SCERA again! Recent design credits include Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (Beck Center for the Arts), Small Mouth Sounds and The Wolves (Texas State University), Singin' in the Rain (SCERA), Snow White (Sting & Honey Company), Once On This Island (Beck Center for the Arts), and High School Musical on Stage! Emma would like to thank her husband, family, and university mentors for supporting her in her theatre career!
DEBORAH BOWMAN
(Costume Designer)
Debbie started singing and acting when she was four years old and has enjoyed the stage ever since. You've seen her as Mother Bailey in It’s A Wonderful Life: The Musical, Sister Amnesia in Nuncrackers, in Sister Act and singing in SCERA’s Night of Broadway concerts. Debbie feels blessed to have a high school hobby turn into her dream job these last 17 years working at the SCERA Costume Shop. She has costume designed many shows, with some favorites being Big Fish, Oklahoma, The Play That Goes Wrong, The SpongeBob Musical, Catch Me If You Can, The Drowsy Chaperone, Matilda The Musical, The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, Hairspray, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Newsies. But her favorite role to play is grandma to five beautiful grandbabies, mom to two great kids (and their spouses), and wife to her extremely supportive husband John!
MARK J. BUFFINGTON
(Constable) Mark is super excited to be back at the Shell for his 7th show and his 12th overall show at SCERA. You have seen him for the past 3 years as the Old Man in A Christmas Story, Mr. Salt in Willy Wonka, Cpt. Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, Adam Pontipee in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Corny Collins in Hairspray, and multiple ensemble roles throughout the years. Making it extra special this year, Mark is sharing the stage with his daughter Penny and son Jeb who are both in the ensemble. Mark is a Full Time Officer with the Utah Army National Guard. He wants to thank his wife Stephanie for letting him goof off this summer, speaking in “not quite right” accents and pretending to be someone else.
JASON CASE
(Mordcha) Jason is excited to be on stage again after a 10 year hiatus following his first appearances as Patsy in Spamalot at the Lehi City Arts Center and Joseph in Liken's The First Christmas at SCERA. When he is not on stage, Jason enjoys spending time with his amazing family, working as the Director of Analytics Engineering at Drumline, or some of his favorite hobbies playing board games and DIY projects. He wants to thank his family, especially his wife, Ashley, for their sacrifice of time and energy to allow him to be in this show. They've been incredibly supportive. “Thank you! I love you!”
MEGAN CHRISTENSEN
(Yente) Megan is thrilled to be back on stage at SCERA. She comes to the stage with over 30 years experience in musical theater performance and vocal pedagogy as a

performer and teacher. Past roles include Alfonzo/Dulcinea in Man of La Mancha, Fiona in Brigadoon, Millie in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Mother Courage in Mother Courage. She currently teaches music at Rock Canyon Elementary and voice and acting at Utah COPA. Megan graduated from BYU, double majoring in Music Dance Theater and Theater Education and had the opportunity to perform with the BYU Young Ambassadors. She has four great kids and a wonderful, supportive husband!
MILLIE CHRISTENSEN
(Bielke) Millie is so excited to be in her first show at SCERA. She has spent the past five years studying dance and musical theater with Utah COPA and loves any opportunity to be on stage. She is starting 5th grade in the fall and loves tumbling, baking and takes full advantage of her role as the youngest child in her family.
KATE DRINKWATER
(Shprintze) After performing in private for friends and family, in countless selfrecorded videos on her mom’s phone, and in seven years’ worth of dance class recitals, Kate is thrilled to finally have her debut in a real, live musical theater production. She’s also excited that she and her mom get to be in the show together. She has loved the entire process and wants to thank Kurt and the rest of the production crew for giving her this opportunity.
MARY DRINKWATER
(Shaindel) After playing Hodel in Fiddler at Sundance and the SCERA Shell in the 90's with Jerry Elison directing, it feels very special to Mary to be in the show again with Jerry’s son (and her longtime friend) Kurt directing—and especially to get to do it this time with her daughter Kate. Mary returned from a long hiatus from musical theater last summer to play Frau Schmidt—and a nun—in the Sound of
Music at Sundance. She has sung with the Utah Symphony and Utah Opera, and currently sings and records with the award-winning Cantorum Chamber Choir. Thanks always above all to her Matchless Match Peter and to her Blessings in Her Old Age: Jane, Zuzu, Adam, Ellen, Emiri and Kate.*
CHASE ELISON
(Sound & Lighting Manager) Chase has been involved in theatre since he was 11 in SCERA’s Oliver. At age 15, he began working at the Lehi Arts Center, where he has run and designed countless productions in lighting and audio. Chase currently serves as SCERA’s Sound and Lighting Manager, and has designed lighting for many of SCERA’s Theatre for Young Audiences productions, most recently for A Year with Frog and Toad, A Christmas Story The Musical and The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley. “I dedicate my work to my grandparents Jerry & Barbara. They introduced me to theatre and music at a young age. My grandma taught me piano for many years, and I had the honor of working with my grandpa for several productions here at SCERA. Love and miss you guys, ‘Ya done good!’”
EMMA ELISON
(Tzeitel) Emma is thrilled to take part in this production of Fiddler on the Roof. Her grandpa, Jerry Elison, directed the last performance of Fiddler on the Roof at the SCERA Shell, and Emma was fortunate to be a part of it. This production holds a significant place in Emma's heart. She expresses her gratitude to her family and friends for their unwavering love and support.
KURT ELISON
(Director) Kurt has been on the stage since he was just a little kid. Kurt is so excited to be working on this show with this crew. Kurt has recent directing credits include Bright Star at the Lehi Arts Center, and A Christmas Story at SCERA. Kurt has loved being

on the stage, and off the stage as a director. He learned a lot from his late father, who showed him how theater can be so meaningful and fun. Kurt has directed several shows: Beauty and the Beast, See How They Run, Wait Until Dark, And Then There Were None, She Loves Me, Damn Yankees, The Drowsy Chaperone, Big Fish, Clue The Musical, Blithe Spirit, The MouseTrap, just to name a few. He loves being involved with the community, and working with great people from around this great valley. Kurt is very grateful for the opportunity to direct The Fiddler on the Roof. This was one of his dad’s favorite shows, and his dad was the last one to direct it on this stage. Kurt knows that his dad and mom are looking down to watch this beautiful show. Kurt would like to thank his wonderful production team, and his wife and kids who have always been so supportive of Kurt’s theater passion.
ELISHA GARRETT
(Hodel) Elisha is delighted to be in this production of Fiddler on the Roof. Recent credits include A Night of Broadway on SCERA’s indoor stage and Bright Star with Lehi Arts. She’s worked as a featured and background vocalist for Disney, EFY, and various other artists for 10+ years. Sending gratitude and love to all the friends and families here to watch this beautiful story.
ERIC GLISSMEYER
(Avram) For Eric, this show has brought him full circle. For several years, his wife Martha was music director for stage director Jerry Elison’s summer shows at SCERA. Eric and his daughter Caroline were in many of those shows. Now, both Martha and Jerry have passed away, and it is a blessing for Eric and Caroline to be in one of their favorite musicals with Eric’s current wife Rebekah, and to be so ably directed by Jerry’s son Kurt. Thanks be to God for this beautiful opportunity for our family! Eric's roles
at the SCERA Shell have included Mayor Shinn in The Music Man, Buffalo Bill in Annie Get Your Gun, Eugene Fodor in Crazy for You, and R.F. Simpson in Singin' in the Rain. He makes his living as program manager for Classical 89 KBYU-FM, and is the host of Afternoon Classics on that station each weekday from 2-6pm, and the host of Sunday Inspiration each Sunday from 8-11am.
KYLE HARPER
(Lazar Wolf) Kyle is thrilled to be returning to the SCERA Shell. This is his 7th SCERA production and 2nd time performing Fiddler on the Roof on this stage. Kyle has earned both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Music Education and is currently the choir teacher at Cedar Valley High School in Eagle Mountain. Kyle has also music directed several productions at Hale Center Theater Orem, including The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Christmas Carol for the past 4 years. Kyle is excited to be sharing the stage with his wife, Shani (Golde), and his children, Zoë & Heath.
SHANI HARPER
(Golde) Shani is excited to be back at SCERA! Her previous SCERA productions include Little Women and Little Shop of Horrors. Shani has also performed at the Hale Center Theater Orem and Covey Center for the Arts, among others. She is most excited to be performing with her husband, Kyle, and her kids Zoe and Heath.
JENNA HART
(Chava) Jenna is excited to return to the SCERA Shell, and especially happy to be playing opposite her real-life happy ending, Nate Hart (playing Fyedka). Jenna loved performing in SCERA's Oklahoma last summer
GLOW INSIDE + OUT
and had to return for another show. Favorite previous roles include Leading Player (Pippin) and Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady). Jenna loves Dr Pepper, her husband, Taylor Swift, napping, and works full-time for Squire & Company, an official SCERA sponsor.
NATE HART
(Fyedka) Nate is thrilled for his second round at the SCERA Shell. He met his lovely wife Jenna while performing in Nauvoo. Illinois three summers ago. It’s rumored in their wedding vows that one wouldn’t perform in a show without the other. Thus Nate and Jenna had a blast in last year’s Oklahoma, and are so happy to once again play as opposites (Fyedka and Chava) in tonight’s show, Fiddler on The Roof. Nate loves Saturdays, cooking, working on his car, and playing the guitar. He’s working towards a degree in Global Supply Chain Management at BYU. Nate has performed with Starlight Mountain Theatre in Idaho, Nauvoo Historic Sites, and an international barbershop quartet.
ZIPPY HELLEWELL
(Scene Shop Manager)
Zippy graduated from UVU with an AA in Theatre Arts. He has been doing theater since 5th grade when he was in his elementary school's production of Guys and Dolls Jr. and has loved it ever since - he was recently in the ensemble of June’s production of The Little Mermaid. Zippy started off acting, but he also found his love for backstage along the way. He started working in technical theater in junior high and high school, as well as some classes at UVU. He’s spent the past few years at SCERA working on sets and backstage, and designed the set for The Play That Goes Wrong, Cinderella: The Tale of the Glass Slipper and A Christmas Story: The Musical.
CHARISSE KARTCHNER
(Fiddler) Charisse is thrilled to make her SCERA debut with such an incredible cast and crew. She has enjoyed supporting her children in the performing arts throughout the past 20 years, including recently performing alongside them in Mary Poppins with Vivace Performing Arts. And now, as a part of the Fiddler cast, she's excited to jump back on stage! She holds bachelor degrees in harp performance and music education and a masters degree in curriculum and instruction. Aside from teaching private music lessons, and acting as concertmaster in the Saratoga Springs Symphony Orchestra, she enjoys coaching swim teams at both Timpanogos High School and Lindon Aquatic Center. She especially loves the outdoors and spending time with her husband and 6 wonderful kids. She is so grateful for their support and the opportunity to do this show with her son, Dallin!
OLIVIA KEATING
(Choreographer) Olivia is no stranger to the SCERA Shell, but this is her first time choreographing on this stage. You might've seen Olivia these past few summers as Sharpay in High School Musical, Dorcus in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Joanna Wilkes in Big River, or Brenda in Hairspray. Olivia is familiar with the daunting task of creating a spectacular show at the Shell and is excited to take on this challenge. Olivia has had a passion for dance and performing since she was a young girl, training in jazz, ballet, tap, hip-hop, contemporary, and musical theatre. Her previous choreography credits include Mary Poppins (ACT), Oklahoma (LPHS), and Peter Pan (ACT). She also works for SCERA teaching beginning and intermediate jazz to adults and absolutely loves it. Outside of the performing arts, Olivia just graduated in May from Brigham Young University majoring in Political Science, with two minors in legal studies and communications. She plans on attending law school next fall and is excited to become a 'reallife Elle Woods'. Olivia would like to thank her

family and friends for encouraging her to pursue her talents and being her biggest supporters.
ETHAN KELSO
(Perchik) Ethan is excited to be making his SCERA debut as Perchik. Ethan found his love for the stage at a young age and continued that love into high school where he was blessed to be the 2019 Best Actor at the Jimmy Awards in New York City. He now pursues a career in the arts and teaches voice, acting and audition prep and you can find out more about his lessons at ethankelso.com. Ethan would like to thank his wife and new baby daughter for all their support and love as he pursues his dream.
ANDREW LAMBERT
(Tevye) Andrew’s musical theater debut was at Hillcrest High School as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof in the fall of 1991, and he’s thrilled to reprise the role nearly 33 years later now that he can grow his own beard! A banker by profession and the father of four children, Andrew describes himself as an entertainer extrovert and he loves to hike and travel. He was last seen at the SCERA Shell as Pap Finn in Big River in 2018. Some of his other favorite roles include Harold Hill in The Music Man, Gomez Addams in The Addams Family, George Banks in Mary Poppins and Jack Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest. Andrew is very excited to be part of this production that has much personal meaning for him.
ABRAHAM LEE
(Rabbi) Abraham grew up in a big family that has always loved Broadway musicals. Whether seeing his siblings perform in school musicals, watching the Dream Cast perform Les Miserables on PBS, or gathering around the piano to sing with family and friends,
the songs and stories of musicals have become part of who he is. Abraham enjoyed many years participating in various vocal performing groups. Each summer, coming to see SCERA Shell shows has become a beloved tradition for his own family. Abraham is excited to take the stage in his first musical with two of his daughters, Katelyn and Sarah. Fiddler on the Roof was one of his favorite stories growing up and he is so grateful to SCERA for giving them a chance to be part of it.
CHRISTY NORTON
(Props Designer) Christy grew up in Orem and remembers going to SCERA as a child. She taught dance for 20+ years and was the Youth Dance director at SCERA for four years. Christy started designing props for SCERA in 2014. Her first production was The Cat in the Hat and since that time she has designed more than 80 productions. Christy loves the unique creative challenge of designing props to help tell the story! Special thanks to her husband Ben and three children and to her SCERA family for believing in me and supporting me.
