Wine Tasting and Catalan Cooking

Engage all your senses while exploring Western Europe and the Mediterranean. Breathe in warm breezy air redolent with orange groves, basil, pine trees and bread baking in stone ovens. Delight in wine tastings from Europe’s finest vineyards and stimulate your taste buds with barbecued seafood splashed with tart lemon, sharp sheep’s cheeses, salty mountain ham and fresh salads plucked from local gardens. In Portimao, Portugal, delight in Quinta dos Vales, a superb wine and art estate, in the heart of Western Algarve, with tastings of both Portuguese and French varieties amidst lovely sculptures. In Collioure, in the South of France, visit Terres des Templiers, where vines have been tended since antiquity and in the 1950s, local growers combined skills to protect the soil. After wine-tasting, don an apron and prepare a Catalan meal from fresh vegetables, seafood, grilled lamb and paella featuring pasta, not rice. In Rapallo, Italy, join local host Guido on a tour of local markets, an artisanal pasta factory (for panasoto, pasta stuffed with local herbs), and a bakery serving decadent, warm cheese focaccia washed down with vermentino.

Sample Olives and Learn to Make Tzatziki

On the Aeolian island, Lipari, after exploring pumice stone quarries and obsidian streams enjoy fresh homemade cookies washed down with Malvasian wine. In Kos, travel to the mountain village Zia, where you’ll learn to cook moussaka and tzatziki in a traditional Greek Taverna. Visit a family-run olive oil factory to learn how it is made, and a lovely vineyard to taste the range of local and international varieties. While on Paros, explore Kamaranthos farm, an organic estate where olive, pomegranate, fig and almond trees are grown. Try local delicacies while tasting souma, a famous spirit produced on the farm.

Taste Madeira Wines and Local Cheese

For our guests joining a cruise along Western Europe, our wine tour from Funchal, Portugal, takes you to Blandy’s Madeira winery, a family-owned business with over 200-years-experience producing the finest Madeira wines. For those with a refined sweet tooth, our Taste of Bruges tour from the Belgium port Zeebruges will enthral. Our expert Discovery guides take you to the heart of this magical city to discover why the local chocolate tastes so divine, why French fries should really be called Belgian fries and why there’s no such thing as a Belgian waffle.
