South Carolina Nonfarm Employment Trends For August — Seasonally Adjusted The Current Employment Survey of businesses in South Carolina marked an increase of 3,100 nonfarm payroll jobs over the month to a level of 2,137,800. •
Industries that reported gains were in the Government (+5,900); Leisure and Hospitality (+2,500); Construction (+500); Professional and Business Services (+500); Information (+400); and Manufacturing (+200) industry.

Decreases were observed in the Education and Health Services (-5,300); Other Services (-1,300); and Financial Activities (-200) industry.
•
Retail Trade has a decrease (-300).
•
Trade, Transportation, and Utilities remained flat.
From August 2020 to August 2021, South Carolina’s economy has picked up 68,500 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs. •
Industries with strong growth was reported in the Leisure and Hospitality (+26,500); Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (+14,400); Construction (+7,900); Manufacturing (+7,200); Education and Health Services (+4,600); Government (+4,500); Professional and Business Service (+3,400); Other Services (+1,800) and Information (+1,000) industry.

The Retail Trade industry increased (+8,700) over the year.
•
There was a decline noticed in the Financial Activities (-2,800) industry.
For the Metropolitan Statistical Areas, seasonally adjusted, total nonfarm payroll job increases were seen in Greenville (+2,100); Charleston (+1,100); Myrtle Beach (+900); Florence (+700); and Columbia (+500). Areas that saw a decline were seen in Hilton Head (-1,200); Sumter (-200); and Spartanburg (-100). Over the year, all the Metropolitan Statistical Areas saw an increase in seasonally adjusted payroll. Leading with employment gains were Charleston (+15,800); Greenville (+12,800); Myrtle Beach (+5,900); Spartanburg (+5,800); Columbia (5,600); Hilton Head (+4,100); Florence (+1,600); and Sumter (+1,500).
