It has been my privilege as Director of Admissions and Scholarships to work with you during the entry process. We trust that this booklet will introduce you to some important aspects of St Cuthbert’s and help you with the process of becoming part of the school family.

After School Care - Club Evergreen
Club Evergreen is available every afternoon of the school year. The programme is taken by qualified teachers and children may attend on a regular or casual basis.

Chapel Services
Students attend Chapel services with their class as part of the Christian focus of the school. A Sunday family service for parents and students to attend is held once a year for each year level. Parents should attend with their daughters whenever possible. The date for your daughter’s service will be detailed in the school Calendar on the website.

Centennial Centre for Wellbeing
The Centennial Centre for Wellbeing offers support and programmes in pastoral care, sport, health, nutrition and fitness training.
Beattie Centre
The Beattie Centre offers a wrap-around approach to pastoral care for Senior School students. Deans, counsellors and the Careers Advisor are available to assist.
AFG
Fitness Centre
Activities in the Fitness Centre form part of the Physcial Education programme in the Middle and Senior Schools, sports conditioning and training programmes. The Centre is available before and after school for students to use. Contact: sport@stcuthberts.school.nz
Margaret Beale Swimming Pool
Programmes in the swimming pool form part of Physical Education for students to develop swimming and water safety skills. Swimming, Flippaball and Water Polo are also part of the co-curricular sports programme. The pool is available after school several days each week for students to swim.
A Swim School operates from the pool complex. Click here for details of classes for pre-schoolers, students, squad training and swim-fit programmes.
Co-curricular Activities
Music
Musical groups offered at St Cuthbert’s include choirs, orchestras, bands and small groups, for students from Years 1 – 13. Allcomers and elite ensembles ensure there is a group for every level of expertise.
Individual Music Lessons
A wide variety of musical instruments and voice lessons are taught through the school’s Individual Music Programme with our highly-skilled and experienced tutors. Tuition through the Suzuki Method is very successful for students in Year 4 and below and older girls can learn using traditional methods. Drama
The Drama Department organises a host of co-curricular activities and events, from Theatresports to Stage Challenge. There are opportunities for students to take part in acting, directing, designing and production.

Individual Speech and Drama Lessons
Information regarding speech and drama opportunities is also available on the website. Lessons can be arranged on an individual or shared basis.
Tuition is offered for Trinity College and New Zealand Speech Board examinations in a variety of syllabus options including speech and drama, public speaking, acting and performance.

Cultural Activities
There are a number of cultural groups that students may join. The annual Po Fiafia night showcases performances from Korean, Chinese, Samoan, Indian, Cook Island, Thai, Mongolian, Kapa Haka and other groups.

Auditions for:
Sebastian Squad (Auditioned String Orchestra) and Saints Alive (Auditioned Choir)
Most of the opportunities you will have to participate in St Cuthbert’s co-curricular activities – sports, music, drama, etc. will be advertised to you next year when you join the school.
• Saints Alive, a senior auditioned choir for Years 9 –13 students.
• Sebastian Squad, an auditioned string orchestra for Years 9 –13 students. We particularly welcome interest from violin, viola, cello and especially, double bass players
If you would like to be considered for either/both of these groups, please email mike.young@stcuthberts.school.nz with details of your experience and we will arrange for you to meet Music Department staff.
If you are in Auckland, we can find a time to audition, or if you are offshore we can liaise with you to send a video.

Photocopying with ID Card
Senior students are able to use their ID card to print on machines around campus for a small cost. To top up their ID card, students can find this tile on the homepage of myCollege.
School Day
Start Times
Students should be at school by 8.15am to allow time to prepare for Period 1 which begins at 8.30am.
Finish Times
• Years 0 – 6 finish at 3.00pm.
• Years 7–13 finish at 3.25pm.
Horizon Hour
Please note that every Tuesday the Senior School finishes earlier for Horizon Hour. This is time set aside for staff professional development.
• Years 7–13 finish at 3.10pm.
Flexi-Boarding
In addition to full and weekly boarding options, there are a number of ‘flexi beds’ available for short-term stays.

Parents and Friends’ Association
The Parents and Friends’ Association supports St Cuthbert’s in a variety of ways. It has two primary aims:
• To welcome families and friends to the school community through a variety of social events.
• To harness the goodwill of parents and provide financial and practical support to the school from fundraising and social events.

We believe that education is a partnership between home and school and operate an open-door policy to facilitate communication. St Cuthbert’s Café
Students are able to order and purchase reasonably priced, healthy food from the St Cuthbert’s Café . Students in Years 0–6 may order lunch online to be delivered to their classroom. Please register online to use this service through the Flexi-Schools link on the myCollege section of the website and the school app. Year 7 & 8 students can order lunch online and have it delivered to the Quad outside Clouston Hall at lunchtime.
Students in Years 7–13 may purchase food from the St Cuthbert’s Café located in the building next to the Violet Wood Dining Hall, or the Atrium.
Day girls may join Boarders for breakfast and/or dinner. Bookings may be made in advance with the Director of Boarding and will be charged to your school account. Email joanna.meikleham@stcuthberts.school.nz.

Technology
St Cuthbert’s is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school from Years 5–13.
• Students in Years 5–9 use Apple iPads with a keyboard and Apple Pencil. We recommend the iPad Pro or iPad Air with a M1 chip and at least 128GB storage, Apple Pencil 2 and the Apple Magic Keyboard.
• Years 10 –13 students use laptops. Apple MacBooks (pro or Air) are the preferred option. Windows laptops can be used. Please contact notebook@stcuthberts.school.nz to discuss if you are wanting to use a Windows laptop.
• If you are starting in Year 9, and do not already own an iPad, an option will be provided to pay a per term rate for the use of an iPad, keyboard and pencil. This option is useful for those families who do not wish to purchase an iPad for one year.
Specifications for all devices will be published here soon, along with details of the one year option to pay a per term rate for the use of an iPad for one year. We strongly advise that any parents who are looking to purchase a new device – iPad or MacBook–donotdosobefore1November.

Getting to St Cuthbert’s has never been easier
Drop-Off and Pick-Up Points for St Cuthbert’s
There is no vehicle access to the campus during school hours.
Puriri Drive
Students may be dropped off or picked up on Puriri Drive and can enter the school via the Carlton Gate. Parents should not drive into the Carlton car park.
A Short Walk
Students may be dropped off and picked up further away from the school giving them the added advantage of a short walk to and from the school.
Manukau Road
From Manukau Road, it is a very short walk along Campbell Crescent.
Ranfurly Road
From Ranfurly Road, it is also a very short walk along Market Road with a pedestrian crossing outside the school.
Great South Road
From the intersection of Great South Rd and Market Road, it is a 10 minute walk.
Griffin Avenue
From Griffin Avenue there is pedestrian access which takes you to the crossing opposite the Wells Gate.

The Wapiti Avenue car park is closed to vehicles and pedestrians. This is a secure gate with swipe card only access. This access is for staff and Boarder parents. There is no pedestrian access.
