Irmo was recognized in 2018 as “One of the Safest Cities” in South Carolina. Located on the shore of Lake Murray and only 10 miles from Columbia, the capital of South Carolina, Irmo was a sleepy little town of 500 people in the early 1970s. Today, with nearly 13,000 residents, Irmo is one of the country’s most sought-after places to live.
The Lown House, now Irmo Town Hall, was built around the turn of the 20th century and was located farther down St. Andrews Road near the current Kroger shopping center. The restored Victorian home sits proudly behind towering willow oaks, which are older than the town itself, and faces the railroad that spurred the founding of Irmo. The new town hall was donated by the Lown family and was moved to its current location at the corner of Woodrow Street and Columbia Avenue. The Town of Irmo has operated from this location since December 1988.
This beautiful Southern scene was photographed on the front porch of Irmo Town Hall by Leigh Essig Photography. Thanks to Honey the Goldendoodle for being such a good baby and to Seven Oaks Plant Shop for use of the gorgeous ferns.

Welcome to Irmo, South Carolina!
Welcome to the ‘Mo!
There are big things on the horizon here in Irmo, SC. Last year, the Town purchased nearly 10 acres between Loveland Coffee and Irmo Community Park to expand the park and create a special purpose district for the Town. This is a positive direction in the area of economic development and I am so excited to watch Irmo grow while we continue to attract families and businesses to the area!
I am so proud to represent this amazing business community and I encourage you to spend your dollars right here in Irmo and Lexington County! There is a reason we have experienced unprecedented growth over the last three years: top-shelf shopping, dining, schools, communities — and PEOPLE!
If I can ever be of assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the Chamber. Whether you’re just visiting or you’re making the visit permanent, I hope you enjoy your time with us!Kerry Powers President & CEO Greater Irmo Chamber
