Welcome In the time period from July 1, 2018 until June 30, 2019, we have facilitated over $150 million in new capital investment that will create 100 jobs. These investments came from two new companies to the region as well as expansions by industries already operating in the region. We like to have a balance between existing industry expansion as well as new companies coming here. It’s quite rewarding that companies already operating here, think they made the right choice to be here and continue to invest. Our goal continues to be about diversifying our regional economy. Economic Development is not a static endeavor but rather one of fluid transformation. Just a few short years ago we had people looking for jobs, now we have jobs looking for people. What has not changed is our partnership with workforce development providers. A trained and available workforce is the most important criteria that our existing companies, as well as prospective companies have on their priority list. We are constantly working with local elected officials and other community leaders to position the region for new capital investment and job creation opportunities. We also continuously market our region’s outstanding workforce, along with quality of place that is second to none, to companies looking for a great location to manufacture their products. We are regionally focused because we know that companies do not see county lines and new jobs in one county means opportunities for the citizens in the other two. Our focus has always been about diversifying the tax base and raising the per capita income in the region. The old adage of “a rising tide floats all boats” applies to our efforts. We look forward to having another great year and to serving our four counties. Education Public School Districts Aiken County Schools: 20 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, 9 high schools, 3 charter schools, 1 career and technology center Total Enrollment: Over 23,000 students Aiken County School District has implemented Accelerated Learning Initiatives and Thematic Programs for students to prepare and exceed the standard in college and in future careers. Early College Site is a collaboration with Aiken Technical College, similar to the Advanced Placement Academies, providing a foundation and furthering of critical thinking skills, enhanced learning, and time-management skills for future-ready students. The University of South Carolina Aiken and Aiken County School District are partnered to form the Aiken Scholars Academy and create an academic school of excellence. The Academy offers an advanced learning opportunity inside of a college campus to prepare scholars in future endeavors. Additionally, the school district has begun a community workforce development collaborative called Aiken Works. The program encourages business and industry to partner with the school district and offer hands-on expe-

rience for students. Aiken Works is geared towards the enhancement of education and workforce ready students. The middle schools of Aiken County incorporate science, technology, engineering and math across all subject areas, known as STEM or STEAM (STEM + art). Art is also celebrated across Aiken County with the help of Joye in Aiken and Aiken Performing Arts partnering with the District to provide inspiration, mentors, workshops and concerts.
Edgefield County Schools: 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 1 high school, 1 career and technology center Total Enrollment: Over 3,300 students Edgefield County School District focuses on providing skills needed for students continued success in a constantly changing society by engaging, empowering and enriching all learners. The school district is committed to “Preparing Our Children for the Real World the Right Way”. Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center offers students the opportunity to join clubs such as Future Business Leaders of America, American Welding Society, and other clubs focusing on preparing students for future careers and gaining hands-on experience. Similar programs have also begun to fur-
ther opportunities such as Automotive Technology and Building Construction Technology.

The District provides rigorous and relevant curriculum along with supportive programs to educate and enhance student learning. The District offers and encourages students to take advantage of the dual credit courses with Piedmont Technical College to gain college credit while working towards a high school diploma.
McCormick County Schools: 1 elementary schools, 1 middle schools, 1 high school Total Enrollment: Over 600 students McCormick County School District carefully analyzes student performance in order to make decisions relating to curriculum and instruction. The District also incorporates the STEAM program, which blends together the enhanced learning of science, technol-
ogy, engineering, art and mathematics. Additionally, each middle school student has been assigned a Chromebook computer and receives instruction in Digital Citizenship. McCormick County School District also provides dual enrollment with Piedmont Technical College enabling students to earn college credit while attending high school and comes at no cost to students, which makes the program unique in Western Piedmont Education Consortium (WPEC).

University of South Carolina Aiken The University of South Carolina Aiken has been named the No. 1 public regional college in the South for the 14th time by U.S. News & World Report’s guide, “America’s Best Colleges.” This is the 21st consecutive year USC Aiken has been ranked in the top three public regional colleges in the South. The university is also ranked as #1 for veteran students. USC Aiken is a four-year, public coeducational university offering undergraduate degree programs as well as master’s degree programs.
Aiken Technical College is a public, two-year, comprehensive institution of higher education established to provide citizens of Aiken County opportunities for educational, economic, professional, social, and personal development. Aiken Regional Medical Center is a 273-bed acute care facility that offers over forty different specialties. The Edgefield County Hospital (ECH) is located in a rural community, for the purpose of making a difference in a medical emergency. Transportation Major highways, rail and air service all converge within and around the region. Two-thirds of the U.S. population is within a one-day drive of the area. Every means of transportation is within the limits of our region or not far from. The major rail lines of CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern bisect the area, and a four-mile county-owned spur connects rail service directly to Aiken County’s Sage Mill Industrial Park. Within our region we have access to Augusta Regional Airport, only 30 minutes from Aiken, and the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, only 50 minutes from Aiken. Supporting corporate jet service is the Aiken Municipal Airport, a city-owned public-use airport. The major ports of Charleston, SC, and Savannah, GA, are each only a 2.5-hour drive away.

A moderate, four-season climate invites people outdoors for activities with families and friends. For example, Hitchcock woods holds over 2,100 acres of forest habitat being the largest urban forests in the nation for residents to hike, jog and even go horseback riding. Aiken is enriched in art with festivals and concerts throughout the year. Aiken County is also home to the Augusta GreenJackets, a minor league baseball team, inside SRP Park. The SRP Park is a 4,500-seat stadium along the Savannah River. Additionally, Aiken County offers a variety of amenities for everyone such as golf, shopping, dining, recreational parks, craft fairs, performing art, and equine events.

Thousands of rural acres color Edgefield County every spring. Edgefield County is one of the largest peach producers in the nation and home to the annual Peach Festival, drawing crowds of people. Residents can be found enjoying Slade Lake, a popular fishing area just outside of town. Slade Lake is flanked on its Western edge by the Ten Governors Rail Trail frequented joggers or cyclists. The charming downtown area is home to restaurants, retail shops, art, live theatre and a living history museum. The National Wild Turkey Federation’s main headquarters are located just 2.5 miles out of town with events going on continually for the whole family. Saluda County was named for the Saluda River which forms around the northern side of the County border. Other bodies of water inside Saluda are the Big River and Lake Murray. A portion of Lake Murray rests in Saluda where many residents are found fishing, boating, and dining along the lake. Saluda is also home to the longest golf hole in South Carolina at the Persimmon Hill Golf Club. Outside of recreational activities, Saluda County embraces art and history with museums and art festivals yearround.

ARC is a 60,000-square-foot facility located in the Savannah River Research Campus in Aiken, South Carolina. Economic Development Partnership The Economic Development Partnership, a non-profit public-private development corporation, was formed by Aiken County Council at the request of local business leaders in 1984. The community realized growth would be hampered and the area would fall behind other regions in South Carolina without a county-wide economic development focus. The Partnership was restructured in 1988 to served Edgefield County. In 2014, Saluda County joined the Partnership, followed by McCormick County in 2017. The Partnership is unique among economic development organizations in that it receives funds from all four county governments, as well as contributions from the private sector. The Partnership is governed by a Board of Directors with members from the public sector (appointed by the County Council) and from the private sector (elected by the public sector members).

Our Missions
Our missions for Aiken, Edgefield, Saluda, and McCormick Counties include: • Marketing for capital investment and job creation. • Assist in the development of economic development-related plans and projects. • Publish and maintain up-to-date statistical and demographic information. • Maintain an inventory of sites and buildings that can be used for manufacturing, distribution, and research and development projects. • Identify and gather information for additional sites to be added to the inventory. • Provide support for growth and increased investment of existing industry. • Provide support for new technologies based on potential economic advantages for the community and potential to attract allied industries. • Serve as an advocate to foster public support for the missions and stability of the Savannah River Site. • Build on the foundations of the Applied Research Center to attract new companies that would benefit from the ARC technology.
